Why? Couldn't they just replace the part?

If you look carefully you'll see that plastic plate is part of the chassis, you need to basically remove 'everything' and reassemble (not all that easy, I've done it, it took a couple of attempts). More over, on the new models there is no plug and connector on the oven, meaning you'd have to unsolder it to remove and then solder it to the PCB again. IMO way past most owners' 'comfort level'.

And another serious issue, the serial number is on that plate and with it the warranty records.

I don't see field repair as at all practical. Depot level is not easy, either.

How about having one made out of metal. Maybe with a water jet or CNC milling machine.

There have been several guys suggesting just that (including a 'use a laser' suggestion IIRC). I think it's a good idea, I'd buy at least one. It takes some thought and machining I think, but it's not impossible for sure.

OF, sorry if my feeble attempt to quote part of Pipes post made you think I had posted it. Apologies.

I quoted the quote with quotes marks.

At any rate, you made some cogent points which I am inclined to agree with.

No problem. IMO anytime you're mistaken for a guy like Pipes is pretty cool. And I wouldn't put too much stock in that 'making cogent points' bit, it's not likely to happen any time soon.........

Thanks and best wishes.

Thanks @OF totally agree with you....i've taken older Solo's apart fairly easily. Did not know there were some changes in the newer models. Is the battery still easy plug in?

Well, the Solo kicks absolute ass, and is still my overall favourite vape of all time, and bar none best bang for your buck IMO. However, with my OCD the chips/cracks did bother me....but not anymore. I think i'm over it.....once again, it's all about function.

With that being said....there was speculation/rumours about some new exciting developments from Arizer a while back in this thread, but nothing materialized as of yet. It is my own opinion but firm belief that we will actually be seeing something new from them in the new year. Every time I email them they say to wait and stay tuned for new things to come!

Yep, that part's same as ever. I just did a battery swap for a friend (took him a lot of effort, but he finally ran a factory battery out.....). For me the hard part is getting the leads and that GD connector tucked in well so the battery cover goes on right and the chassis slides freely in. Took a couple of tries again this time again (you'd think I'd learn.....).

Good show, too, all we need is two different battery types wondering around........

BTW, he too is trying one of the $10 EBay battery packs. I've been running one in test for a while, it's lower in capacity (maybe 2/3 of the factory battery) but thus far it's holding up well:

You need to deal with cutting the connector off the Solo pack and attaching this guy (watch the colors, work on one at a time only), but it fits and works otherwise........at least so far.

Hmmm, is it possible cracks and chips are a combination of manufacturing shortcomings
AND/OR big boys playing with their big boys toys.

Screwing back too tightly on a soft back plate can crack it, remotely possibly chip it?

Iff not, my bad.

All I know is my first Solo that I bought a year and a half ago has no signs of cracking. The 2 newer models that I have are both cracking and chipping on the bottoms. I use the @Pipes stand on both the newer models so I don't care. Something is going on if not the plastic, I'm not sure what it would be? We may never know....:hmm:

If it doesn't effect the performance we can just enjoy and not worry the small stuff. The Solo is the tool and the cannabis is the holy grail, as @ataxian says.

EDIT
I have my Solo loaded with some PlushBerry this rainy NW evening. It is a cross between Black Cherry Soda and Space Queen.

Just ordered a PVHEGong Turbo 18mm male, I would have rather it in 14mm but no stock but i'm thinking I use these 2 fittings and I can make it suit any of the glass I own or plan to own  being 18mm i can use it fit any 18mm pipe and with these below im set!

This will allow me to fit it to my 14mm female glass

I run many Space Queen crosses! Space Candy and Cuvee are my 2 newest. I love Space Candy in my Solo(Cuvee isn't done yet!) My older Solo also had no chipping cracking issues(new 2 do), but I had to send the older one in for not working... so if I had to chose between chips or a functioning unit...... I'm still vapin', chips and all!

WTF is going on with the Solo? It's possessed! Maybe @OF or @Pipes can assist. Contact the vendor you bought it from.

My 3+ year old solo has been doing exactly the same thing. no blue led 2 lights past 5. It started happening around the same time the battery was noticeably weaker. Also it auto shuts off after 5-6 mins. Is your battery weaker too or is it just the lights?

My friend's Solo has acted this way for a while now, but still seems to work fine. You just get "shadow lights" over temp 4 (or 5?). Is the unit heating up ok?

:peace:

yes when its plugged in still acts the same aprt from blue light comes on I have tried my spare battery and its the same cant send it back as its out of warrenty

That makes no sense at all. If it's out of warranty it's the old style.......it should not turn on at all with the charger plugged in????

Does it charge normally?

Are you sure the charger is good?

Doesn't sound like it, does it? I'm wondering if it's under voltage enough to pass for a PA (lighting the idle light) but takes a dive when called on for full heater power (which it can't do).....and preventing (both?) battery recharge???

If I had it I think I'd wire it up to the bench supply and check the current draws?

My original Solo does the same thing! It still works perfectly fine so I just decided to live with it.

My 1+ year old Solo acts the same and it works perfectly. Like 6-8 months ago it started behaving like this, and like some 2 months from there it eventually started looking normal (lights behaved as they should...), but then got back to this strange behavior... Even replacing the battery (with a HC CentiZen model) did not correct that...

I noticed it is working normally (apart from the lights issue), and I just dont care about it anymore, and feel ok about it :)

Cheers!

mine has been like that since I changed battery a week ago, but it seems to be working fine and I am getting 6-8 sessions so I'm not worried.

Ok so i've only probably a dozen solo's since its release, and NEVER have had a single warranty problem. I owned so many because I would sell them to friends, or want a newer one, etc.

My present Solo is also still going strong from early summer, and i'm curious what is making Solo's die other than battery issues?

It's obviously in the electronics, my guess is the ABV that gets in there....if anyone has ever taken their solo apart after good use, you will see that it can be littered with ABV. Otherwise, i'm assuming it's just basically electronics failing?

With respect to the chipping/cracking bases, this is also the first time for me. I wonder if we will see newer solo's not dispaying this issue in time with a base with greater integrity ?

I still can't believe how fucking awesome the Solo is.......the battery life is the tits! And the taste from glass rivals anything else i've tried if done right.

The fine grind plant matter may be creating an electrically conductive bridge in the electronic ckt; would it return to normal after a careful brushing, or cleaning, around the components?

I understand compressed Dust Destroyer has (sic) bitter ants, possibly use a hand pump? Pesky animals.

Quest: what happens when the "plant" material is converted to resin, my neurons conduct like Krzysztof with a fine coat of resin...

Extremely unlikely.

Dry plant matter is actually an excellent insulator (think wood telephone poles). As a general rule things that conduct heat well also conduct electricity well (and the other way around).

Leakage currents are only important when they become a large fraction of the normal currents in play. In general Solo currents are pretty high. If it was sensitive to such low level currents moisture would be driving it nuts long before ABV dust. The maker, recognizing the problem, would have sealed the circuit boards......a cost he did not elect to take.

No reason to worry, IMO, cleaning is more cosmetic than performance effecting.
