Having a rough time taking a break.

@lwien, you are a model for responsible cannabis consumption, and I really respect your minimal usage and still being able to enjoy! I know your running keeps your tolerance down too.

Well I have no choice now, but to do what you guys do. Hell started last night at bedtime...complete insomnia the entire night, major night sweats for the first 1/2 of the night (nothing new there), and basically somewhat of an alert rest. Good thing I have the day off work today, but the next few days are going to be quite a challenge. Been at this point before, so I pretty much know what to expect, and it's probably going to get rougher before it gets better. Typically I start sleeping a few hours straight, then an early morning wakeup....that progresses to better, and longer quality sleep.

As exhausted as I am right now before 5am (got up at 3:30am), I STILL feel better and more clear than ever before on the herb. It's motivating!

Thanks for listening everyone :)

Only read the last 2 pages of the thread so I'll just address a few issues I've found worked for me.

If you're worried about melatonin release being hampered by artificial light, just buy a cheap pair of blue-light blocking glasses online. Stick them on around 5-6 hours before sleep if you intend on watching TV/using a laptop.

Oh I've definitely experienced the night sweats before but have completely eliminated them now. My lifestyle right now allows for plenty of days of full vaping followed by strict days of abstinence before competition.
The quickest way to reboot your endocannabinoid system is to really go flat out exercising in some way the day you quit. So if I vape all Friday night and Sat onwards I'm off it, I'll cycle to the gym sometime on Sat. I'll do a full body workout, really putting emphasis on squats/deadlifts/shoulder presses which are really the biggest shock & wakeup call to the system. Despite having vaped heavily in the days previously, it doesn't REALLY effect your performance at the gym. You might feel a bit lazier than usual or have a bit of hesitancy (do I really have to do this?), but once you're aware that you'll be feel those thoughts, you can nip them in the bud.

Now for the finisher. After the workout I'll have a cold shower and go into the sauna where I'll try to spend 30mins at 80C (176F). The sauna is the key, however a steam room or a prolonged hot bath will have similar effects.
It's nearly a test of how many cannabinoids/other party toxins are in my system by seeing how long I can stay in there. After a heavy few days of vaping or partying I'll be lucky to last 15+mins. When I'm firing on all cylinders I can withstand 30+. The key to getting the benefits of the sauna, assuming you have no health risks, is to stay in to the point where it gets very uncomfortable and you have to focus on your breathing just to remain in there. The sauna can be pleasurable when you first go in but you should be dying to leave it towards the end!

With enough conditioning you'll find the night sweats will disappear. Here's a good video with further info about the sauna. Don't worry if you don't have access to the sauna though. Exercise really is the key. If you don't have the time, do some HIIT sprinting. I do 8x20 second fast runs with 1 min rest, quickest (and hardest) way to get my system back to normality.

Thanks for your post! It really helps ALOT! I think we have alot in common.

I don't use blue blockers (yet) because there are no electronics, tv, phone, ipad, etc. allowed on in our house after 8pm. This is also the same time that ALL blue light goes off, and the red bulbs go on. My wife and I have been doing this for over a year now, and it has greatly improved our sleep and health in general. We are very sensitive to light. Sometimes sleep can be hampered by not getting enough Blue Light during the day though, such as today is dark, dreary, and rainy. I tried a 10000lux blue light, but somehow felt it was hurting my eyes. The key point here with melatonin is that it is down regulated due to the excessive cannabis, and takes much time to "spring" back to normal. I'm assuming this is why I couldnt sleep at all last night.

I understand that the cannabinoids won't really affect the workout, but not sleeping will. I forced myself to go to hot yoga this morning, and I POURED sweat! I do agree on the health of saunas and i've been down this path before when I had access to a HOT sauna, and it really didn't seem to speed up the detox process for. I have tried everything.....the only thing that helps ME, seems to be TIME. I must be a genetic freak.

The other issue with those compound movements (basically all I lift), is that they are severely taxing to the CNS and is a frequent cause of insomnia for me. I must be pretty sensitive, because if I lift too intensely it's a guarenteed night of insomnia. I've had my adrenals and hormones checked out...all good.

Thanks again for your feedback.....I do now know how much usage will be when I start up again in 2 weeks. You guys are great role models for responsible usage....this is why I love this forum so much!

I feel SO much better after the hot yoga....still tired, but can function.

What a great idea!

I have actually been consuming more than typical for me over past 2 weeks because i have been practicing with my vape and made two new batches of butter as well as social indulgences. Joined a new gym last week known for its great spin classes and yoga so i wil be sweating some toxins out of my system too. As i said a page or two back, i really want to protect my low tolerance.

My sleep issues are not weed related but i can sympathize Biohacker...no night sweats but def not sleeping well...seeing an acupuncturist for it but until after time chg, i dont really expect things to settle down :-/

And it's also a good way to kill yourself if you're not in shape.

Ha, I posted the health warning when I said about going to the sauna. I think it's obvious to everyone in this day & age to start slow if you're not fit so that's why I didn't mention it :). Flat out for an extremely unfit person could just be a fast paced walk.

I'm perplexed as to how overtaxing your CNS through lifting creates insomnia for you, I've heard of it before and it's crazy. Most people I know will have a better nights sleep after a good hard workout!

Keep with the yoga. Continued and progressive awareness of your mind & body could really help with your situation. :)

I'm super sensitive to CNS....I had to give up hockey due to the 7pm and 8pm games would leave me awake all night long. Exact same thing happens to my brother, who doesn't touch weed. Everyone is different, but reving up the CNS causes shifts in hormones and something like a squat is ALOT on the body. Perhaps you are much younger than I am? Regardless, i'm 39. And doing heavy squats or deadlifts is a massive stressor on the body. Everyone is different. I know people that can sleep standing up. Perhaps i'm more sensitive to overtraining?

I'm going for another round of hot yoga in an hour!

Have you studied the merits of cold thermogenesis?

It's amazing how many people die of a heart attack when they go out in the winter to shovel snow but are totally unfit to do so.

If it was obvious to EVERYONE in this day and age to start slow if you're not fit, I wouldn't have posted up what I posted up. The consequences are so dire, that it is definitely worth mentioning.

Last night was the worst.....absolutely zero sweats, but that's because I couldn't sleep AT ALL. The withdrawal is peaking now, and i'm completely exhausted and have a nice 10 hour shift ahead of me. Hopefully I don't get sick! Fuck.

Thank you!!! Well, I feel better now but my heart rate is through the roof. And wow I never knew I would ever be high at work but I'm definitely feeling body tingles lol

If I don't sleep tonight I'll be hitting .1-.2g on Sunday night! Pretty proud of myself so far lol day 4!

Day 6 complete! It's getting better! I slept 5 hours last night, but still sweaty and was up at 2am.

I can't even believe how many body tingles i've been getting. I've been exercising as hard as i'm able to so i'm assuming it's just metabolites. Such a weird feeling, this afternoon is was a full on indica buzz, but at a much lesser scale ofcourse.

Loving this break now!!!! 1 week down 1 to go, and then i'm on holidays, and promising myself to be smart about my usage. Right now, it's the night sweats that concern me the most, but again it's the most common withdrawal symptom next to insomnia.

Stay tuned for the next update!

So just a update I posted about my t break about a month ago, everything went great this month, kept my tolerance low I'm been vapeing every other day or so until a few days ago starting vapeing one stem daily don't get me wrong thats still good but I'm going to go ahead and take a week off staring tomorrow my thinking is maybe one week off a month maybe the sweet spot for me. Everyone I know has commented on my energy level and outlook on life has greatly improved, I really think I had vaped myself into a slump for years, may even go for a full month next year, its funny for the fist time ever I'm excited about not getting high. I'll post in a few days to let you'll know if this break goes easier than the last time

Thanks for the update, I can totally relate about getting excited not medicating.

Fuck my life the last 8hours have been hell....no sleep came to me at all again. This has happened before, sleeping only a few hours every other night. It sucked, I sweated, and I feel ike a truck hit me after many all nighters in a row, and now another 10 hour shift ahead of me. My heart rate is still elevated, obviously a sign of major stress. I have a few days off after today, so i'm debating just going with it, or maybe taking a hit or two to allow me at least one nights rest...i'm definitely leaning toward this but after 1 week it feels like i've progressed SO much I don't want to take two steps back.

Thanks for listening.....this journaling process is helping me big time.

Same fucking thing as yesterday's update....slept from about 9:45pm-1am, and that was it. Fortunately I don't have to work today, but I feel worse than ever...headache now from lack of sleep, and just generally feel like complete shit. Horrible night sweat. Today is going to be riding the sofa all day, but at least I get to watch The Culture High!

Debating taking .1g tonight, but wondering if I should still keep on trucking and try a couple of tylenol as it seemed effective a couple of nights ago.

Fuck my life, maybe I shouldn't have stopped cold turkey? But at least I completed 1 week sober, which I haven't done since MAY. I went two weeks back then, but had to see the dr. and he basically told me I should just stay on it.

I have still been liking the clarity of mind, and just the feeling of being sober. But fuck, I need to sleep.

It's all good, just because I can't have botanicals doesn't mean I can't have sex, coffee, beer, or BEEF bacon! (yum) :D

And interestingly enough and with the risk of TMI, I am noticing some very nice effects from not vaping over the past week if you know what i'm saying. ;)

So finally! I got 4 quality hours from about 8:45-12:45 and then napped for a couple on and off on the sofa. Sweats are subsiding (just a damp t-shirt, sheets dry!) OMG I feel like a completely different person! So mentally clear, refreshed, and I haven't had any congestion whatsoever....I can breathe SO much easier! This is one of the biggest qualities i've noticed increasing.

I did take some OTA cold/flu and tylenol because I couldn't chance a repeat of the night before, and vaping wasn't an option last night due to fatigue and lack of interest. So now i'm going to make a fresh green veggie juice and hit the yoga mat at 6:30 for a hot class to sweat some more out. Oddly enough, vaping is the last thing on my mind now. Boy was I in a vaping slump. I kinda wish my dr. didn't encourage me to get back on the vape when I went through this the last time for 2 weeks, but then again I had a much harder time last round. I did do a pee test just for fun, but ofcourse I still tested positive lol One time even after like 5 weeks I was still positive.

Thanks for being my audience @Dawntreader My intention is that this journaling will help others going through the same thing. And whoever is reading this, I can always be contacted by PM!

Nice to see your doing better....

Me on the other hand.... I. Went a month of limited abv and then got an image + and pretty much vape whenever... If I get a enano I'll have to get back into one pack a day.
