I knew dogs had an uncanny sense of smell, but I didn't know that they could reliably sniff out magnetic, solid state, and optical media, as well as emotions, cancers and many other illnesses.

  • Dogs can use their noses to detect hard drives, thumb drives, and other computer gear, and police are now using these specially trained hard-drive-sniffing dogs in the fight against child pornography
  • DVD-sniffing dogs have been used to track down massive DVD counterfeiting operations in Southeast Asia, finding not only millions of pirated discs but also burner towers used to produce them
  • Dogs can detect subtle differences in the breath, urine, skin, blood, and feces of cancer patients, allowing them to detect certain cancers with up to 97 percent accuracy
  • A dog’s sense of smell is anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 times more acute than your own, and can detect odors in parts per trillion

Can you imagine what they go through when they get skunked? This happened to a lab/goldie mix I had awhile back. She was literally trying to disconnect her nose from her face with her paws. Poor baby..........Got out the tomato juice real quick.

Unfortunately for my wife and I, it is almost time to say goodbye to our "Patricia Snow" of 16 years. She has been diagnosed with cancer and will pass within a month or two. Neither one of us has been through the loss of a pet like this and are heart-broken. We love her dearly.

I am sorry to hear of this! She is very beautiful!

Not that you need advice, but for what it's worth I can offer from experience.... When it's time, let her go! Don't fall for promises of miracle cures, treatments that are intrusive or life extending... just keep her comfortable. If it gets to the point where the tradeoff is passing away or suffering for a few extra weeks, the passing away option will leave you with far fewer regrets.

Two years ago, we lost one of ours to cancer... a snowshoe Siamese of almost 21 years. She was the best friend/cat/companion...etc Now, it's her little brother's turn (not by blood relation, they just grew up together). A seal point Siamese of 20 years. This little boy we are quite proud of. Every bit the cat that our snowshoe was, but he was the runt of the litter... born with his sternum bent outward and a few other chest bones along with it. He wasn't to last 5 years.... but he showed everyone. (He doesn't have cancer, or any other affliction, but when they've been with you as long as ours have, you can tell when something's up.)

Stay strong and adopt another, if you can, when time allows for sufficient healing... there are so many that need a good home....and with a span of 16 years for your Patricia Snow, you definitely have that to offer!

Meet Bill. Bill is awesome
This is Bill.

3xsD6AN.jpg

He is the only Chinese Goose on a lake filled with Canada Geese.
Bill can't fly.

Bill befriends the other injured geese that live on the lake.
His honk is very loud and distinct

He always warns the flock if there's danger nearby.
He is a part of the family

Though Bill has no babies of his own he protects the Canada goslings.
Bill leads them to food

He guides them where to go...
And ushers them all away

Bill is fucking awesome.
Good goose Bill

Check out this magnificent bastard!
Bill is beautiful

Sometimes Chinese Geese are used on farms to alert of any danger. Bill may have been abandoned.
Here's Bill being all contemplative.

He's enjoying the sunset. His injured brethren are nearby, always within 20 feet of him.
Bill

:rockon:The best motherfucking goose of them all!
