Ceramic Nail

Well it looks like that eBay seller has dropped his price from an already insane 14$ shipped to $10.50 shipped. If anyone is looking for a ceramic nail/cap you'd be crazy to pass that up in my opinion. I've completely replaced my titanium nail with the one I ordered and it still has yet to crack or show any signs of use. It is however wobbly on my joint. Not enough to make a difference in function but it's there. The one my room mate ordered fits perfectly.

I picked up one of those sets (mostly for the carb cap) and it's unfortunate to say those silicone containers are not to be trusted.

The ceramic nail is also wobbly on my piece and had a weird taste when I first hit it. I've only hit it a few times since then (might've just needed seasoning even though ceramic is supposed to be non-porous) but there's a lingering after taste of ceramic that I never experienced with the domeless.com nail. Didn't think much of it before but knowing now that the silicone containers are bunk makes me a little bit more uneasy about the "ceramic". I'm sure it's fine but I have plenty of other nails so I don't even care to continue using it, especially since there's so little dish space in comparison (big dabs melt straight down the hole if you're not careful with placement).

2/3 items will go unused but I would've paid $14 for a ceramic carb cap alone so still content with my purchase.

How exactly are the silicone containers "bunk?" I washed mine with soap and water as instructed when I got it and have had my concentrate stored in it ever since without issue. As far as the taste goes I haven't gotten anything negative from the nail. It's definitely wobbly though.

I did a little reading in the silicone thread you linked. As far as I could tell "the test" for deciding if it's quality or not is to pinch it and twist it and see if it turns white. My container doesn't show any white no matter what I do to it. I didn't read much past or before the test part so if I'm missing something here then my mistake.

Edit: nevermind you're totally right about the containers. If I squeeze it hard enough white definitely shows up. Still stand by the nail though.

Are they just ceramic? Looks like something that would be easy to make with some clay and a pottery kiln.
You could make a mold of a titanium nail and pour them by the hundreds. They'd almost be disposable.

Am I missing something?

Nope that's exactly what they are as far as I know. You can tell these were made with a mold as there's a "seam" or whatever you would call it down both sides from where the mold comes together.

It is the butane in BHO that reacts with silicone.

That pinch and twist test sounds like bro-science. The internet is a wonderful thing.

Wow they already all sold. Glad I snagged another set before they were gone.

Would not at all be surprised if I imagined the taste or if it just needed seasoning (I have shit taste if I haven't mentioned that earlier in the thread). My main gripe with it though is the dish size, as you can see while the domeless.com one is small hole with max dish space, the ebay one is pretty much the opposite.

I can drop shatter balls onto the domeless.com one no problem but a dabber is pretty much a necessity for the ebay nail. I still have two more caps for my domeless.com one too (from like March or whenever) so don't see much point in using the smaller one.

Yeah there could definitely be more room between the middle and outer edges but for 10 dollars shipped it's more than fine by me haha.

It's still better than my room mate's porcelain nail he paid 40$ for locally, there's not even enough room to fit a dabber in between the middle and the outer walls.

Been using my domeless.com ceramic nail for a couple weeks now and have 0 complaints. Had to adjust my flat coil a bit in order to get it to fit over the ceramic threads but ever since it's been smooth sailing. The 14mm male adapter could be a little better but it gets the job done. Haven't had any cracking and I've taken it as high as 1200 to clean it. The flavor is great and I love the massive cup size. Normal carb caps don't fit over it but you can easily make a seal with most of them.
