Vaporizer for 70 year old

It's an old post, so rather than bump it, I thought I'd start a new thread. If the mods think it's better to merge them, please do so. I think the circumstances to my thread might be different enough to merit a new thread...

I've been here a while and thank the community for all the info I have gotten. Yea fuckcumbustion! I have not had a lot of experience with different types of vaporizers myself. I own the two in my sig, a Pax and VaporGenie and use them regularly. Additionally I have used a Vapir No2 and a MFLB. Anyway, my stepfather is looking to fuckcombustion. He is 70 years old and has used my Pax a few times and loves the concept of vaporizers. Says he wants to get away from smoking his hits from a pipe. Hallelujah! He's the type of user that might smoke 2 single hits in a night. Says his consumption is about an 1/8 oz a month, so very small amounts. He asked for me to get him a Pax but I happen to think it's too high maintenance for him. I also don't think it conserves enough. I need the equivalent of a 1 hitter for herbs and I think the Pax and it's long heat up cycle compromises the taste. I just think it's a waste to heat up almost a gram of material to take a single hit. So here I am asking the question to the more experienced among you. My thought is a Solo would be easy to own, not too expensive, reliable and efficient, but I have never used one myself so I am not sure. Personally I love using my VaporGenie as a one hitter, it works pretty well for that. But I don't think he is interested in a lighter powered vape. There is no need for it to be portable, he's not going to travel with it at all.

The criteria would be:

• Easy to use and maintain/clean
• Efficient as possible
• 1 hitter-esque- no balloon vapes
• Relatively inexpensive- probably less than $300 would be ideal
• Reliable

I welcome your comments and suggestions! Just want to make sure dad has the right vaporizer.

The Solo would be a good choice IF portability is needed. It's a good choice anyway (since it's a half home/half portable model), except that it doesn't make sense to mess with a battery powered model unless you're going to move around with it. You have to charge and eventually deal with bats that need replacing. A similar AC vape would be the e-nano. It gets a lot of use at my house, and with the bowl in the vapor stem/tube, you can take a hit or two and just put the stem away until you want another, whether that's in 30 min. or the next day. You can also leave it on without worry, so it's ready to go when you need it. I use the optional all glass stem (with fixed glass screen) and just put a stainless steel screen on top of that to screen out more particles. Cleaning is just the stem and with ISO it's a quick and easy job and you're ready to use again in just few min. With the FC coupon code your price is under $200 including shipping.

Have you thought in a magic flight with a small charge of herb? maybe it will be a good option, it has almost zero maintainance, works with rechargeable batteries, it's small, woody and nice.

I'm 70 and have been using vaporizers exclusively for almost 6 years now.

I think Max gave you a great suggestion. A log vape like the E-Nano or the Underdog sounds like it would work out great for him.

Well, he is a grandpa, but not mine! He is my mothers husband (we don't use the stepdad moniker, but that is technically what he is). My whole family finds nothing wrong with weed- mother, father, both step-parents. It was never taboo in my house. But my mothers husband is the only one that uses on a regular enough basis to warrant a vaporizer.

Max, the current model Solo allows for pass-through charging, or charging while in use. Would it work if the batteries were expired, being plugged in? Also, would the e-nano be more powerful or faster to heat up? Trying to make this as simple as possible for my stepdad. If the e-nano is quicker to get to temp, that might be a good way to go. He will never use this with any water tools, likely.

Well, I just spent time on both the threads and manufacturer sites for the e-nano and the underdog. The e-nano seems to heat up in a few minutes, but the underdog in like 20 minutes to an hour. People really must just leave those underdog units on all the time? I don't think my stepdad would go for that. Also, the underdog has no temperature changes unless you get an aftermarket VVPS? I think I'm liking the idea of the e-nano a bit better, but I don't know enough about log vapes in general to know if I am right.

I think the Solo. It easy and clean. You just take the mouthpiece out until you want to have another session. Good flavor and medicates well..

Some valid points have been made here. thought I would throw in a few comments of my own.

I would have to recommend the solo if he is not a power user, while the enano does heat up fast, I often heat mine for at least 5 min before doing anything and for that reason mine tends to get left on all day so I dont have to worry about that 5 min window.

Solo:
Heats up quickly, SIMPLE to use, not much maintenance at all, Lights make it easy to use for a new user. Just about as "plug and play" as a vaporizer can get in my opinion


Enano:
Great at hitting small amounts quickly, also very little cleaning/maintenance involved. Somewhat higher learning curve than solo but also allows more adjust-ability (distance of screen, grind consistency, etc)


If I were buying a unit for a family member in a similar situation I might go with the solo, assuming the draw restriction isnt a problem. Based on the fact that he only uses it 1-2 hits a day the battery would probably last him a 4 days to a over a week easily. While I prefer the enano, I do think it has a somewhat higher learning curve than a solo which may make it harder for someone just jumping into vapes.

Also I cannot comment on the underdog but I hear they work very well and similarly to the enano, you are correct in your statement that they cannot be adjusted out of the box and need a VPS for that function

I have a couple friends who would call lwien a kid. One swears by his old vapor bros miniwand set up and the other loves his Da buddha. Why not ask Pops what he likes the looks of. At 70 he's probably got a little bit of a mind of his own( he married your ma) and may actually know what appeals to him. Just a thought.


Edit: the new solo is not a pass through so you need usable batteries installed even when using it plugged in.

Not really. One has temp buttons and the other a dial (any model you get will have enough power). IMO neither model has a difficult learning curve. The Solo is only $127 delivered at Massdrop (2 more days), so hard to beat for the $, and if Randy at Puffitup will match the price, that's the way I'd go. You can also find 'em on eBay for under $130.

I can easily take a tiny hit from the e-nano. You just sip instead of gulp. I used a Purple Days for years, and the bowl doesn't come smaller or more narrow. The nice thing about the nano is that if you want a bigger hit, it's there for the taking.

Alright, well I am going to contact Randy at Puffitup and see what he can do for me on a Solo. I know at worst case I would love to have one, so if it turns out pops doesn't like it, I'll take it off his hands.

I think it's obvious it would be a good choice for him. Simple and low tech. Not expensive either.

My dad is 80 he has a VB box with a wand but when he comes over my house he loves my solo. Waiting on my Enano as we speak.might want to add puffitup has open box solo 85$ 89$ to help make decision?

I should have been more informative he likes the ease of use not being connected to a cord and easy operating temps with pre sets. Going from the backyard to the recliner is a big plus

LOL at people immediatley going to Google and entering, "What's a mashugana?"

I'd suggest the da Buddha or the ssv here. While I hardly use my dbv anymore I think the quick heat up time, temp control and whip are all great for the new and/or low consumption users.
