I have a glass idea for Oil Rigs...

Hello friends,

I've had a pretty cool idea for glass oil rigs lately. I don't think anybody else has really thought about it and it's pretty simple really. I just don't know how to go about presenting it to someone. I'm not a glass blower nor do I personally know of any. I don't really care about credit/compensation either but I'd hate to open my big mouth and have it become an industry standard or something. (Doubtful, hahaha)

I'm willing to share, but I just want some insight from others members or some glass blowers. I guess see if anybody would even take me seriously. I'm also aware that anything you do in this game is just going to get copied by one of the dh vendors.

Is there anything like it on the market? Is there a market for it? If so, you should patent your idea before revealing it. Then you can approach glass blowers and see if they want to give you commission $ for their use of it.

Absolutely no chance he could get a patent. Especially considering this is just some idea he had when he was stoned and it's very unlikely to progress past making this thread.

Really the only avenue you have - unless you want to make it yourself - is to pitch the idea to a company out there and pray they don't screw you over and take your idea (which they probably would if it was any good).

You gotta realize that stoners think of themselves as creative so Taskrok/Hitman Dougie/all the 'famous' industry people get probably a million "ideas" a day. If you really wanted your idea to come to life you would need to find a glassblower to make you a prototype and then try and post it on like idk reddit or something to get some hype and then get either people to crowdfund you or draw attention from the big names. And that still leaves the possibility of them stealing your idea and doing their own thing.

So straight up unless you're willing to dedicate weeks and months to this project it's not going to happen. I say just post the idea and let the rest of us think about it

Wow brutal honesty in The house. If the OP has an idea that he wants to see made, he could try one of the glowers around here. I'm having a piece made by Doughboy accessed through @PoopMachine. If the OP thinks that he has an idea that would revolutionize Water tool tech forever, then he can begin the patent process by writing a "Letter of Intent" to himself. This is a formal letter with a detailed description of the idea and drawings, specifications, CAD/CAM data. Sent to himself by certified Mail. This gives a "time Stamp" to your idea. Then you would have to proceed with the patent process. The first step is research. You have to research to make sure that there isn't an existing patent. This is much easier with the internet. When I was researching for my own patent this was done at the Patent Library. Usually you had to pay someone to do this. Now you can probably pay a website and do the research. Anyway very involved process... You do not have to patent an item to mass market it. In fact if an idea has been available for purchase for more than one year, it cannot be patented. All of this applies to US patents.

or... learn to blow glass and make it yourself.

I'm very creative and an aspiring entrepreneur, which is why I took the time to make this thread. I wasn't expecting to become rich or famous or anything off of this. I'd rather pitch it to a blower on here than a company as I feel one person is much easier to put your trust into rather than a large group of individuals.

Fuck it I'll just lay it out there. If you're familiar with a skillettools dab dish... Basically all I want to do is take the part that holds the skillet and have it blown into a base or somewhere else on the rig. So your rig would hold your dabber. I carry all my oil rig accessories and concentrates from my bedroom/living room back and forth constantly so I would love to be able to throw my skillet on my rig instead of having to carry a whole nother piece of the collection, risking dropping it. Plus the convenience factor of blasting your nail, setting your torch down and your tool with your dab is all ready to go just sitting in your rig.



So simple, just a little skillet holder blown into the glass itself.

^^^^ Posted all of that at work and didn't realize I don't have photoshop at home. I'll try and shoop something tomorrow to give a better idea.

Thoughts..? Would anybody else like this feature? I know it could be kind of "ugly, goddy, etc" on some pieces so please share away.

Not a bad idea at all, looks cool. Appears to have been done already, but if you have a unique twist on it then i'd be proud of that idea. Maybe some little legs and it'd be complete, haha.
Also kinda looks like an ashtray that doubles as a cigarette-holder. I'd probably buy one just for that purpose! To always have 1 smoke in the chamber ready to go

Well it's a dab dish so you put your concentrates in there.. Which I don't do I usually just use parchment or an oil slick pad. I have an extra pad and thought about cutting it out to fit in the dab dish. Actually fuck yeah I'm going to do that.

Hahaha mother fucker! In all my years of looking at glass and all the head shops I've been to in Colorado I've NEVER seen anything like that. Not real surprised but I like that design. Looks identical to a DHgate piece but with the holder but for 4x as much.

Now one of those rigs with the built in torches and one of these would be like ultimate-status.

Just goes to show if you've thought of it, it's been done.. Happened to me so many times before products/services HIT the shelves/stores.. but I always thought of it when it was already in R&D.

Virtual grocery shopping is one my dad and I thought of in the early 2000's before any supermarket in the US had done this.

USB ports on power outlets/surge strips was thought of by myself in 2007 or 2008 long before you saw that shit in Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc.

I hate being an entrepreneur with absolutely no capital. Worst feels ever.

Don't cut your silicone slick pad if it has the crisscrossed fibers within. Those fibers are fiberglass and when the pad is cut and the fibers are exposed and frayed from being cut, you have the possibility of getting fiberglass in your oil. Not good.
