Florida needs your help.

I know we all have our own battles for legalization, but Florida is in a heated battle with one of the richest men in the Republican camp. Any amount will help and donors are matching donations between now and Oct 31. With your help we can add another state to the MMJ fold. Sheldon Adelson a casino magnate who is not even from Florida has poured 4 million dollars into the anti-mmj fund in hopes of building casinos in Florida next year. Any amount will help.

If you can, please help.

The measure defines a "debilitating medical condition" as cancer, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, hepatitis C, HIV, AIDS, ALS, Crohn's disease, Parkinson's disease "or other conditions for which a physician believes that the medical use of marijuana would likely outweigh the potential health risks for a patient."[1]

"Or other conditions for which a physician believes that mmj would outweighs health risks." That leaves that wide open. I have a cert for pain and nerve damage I live in WA. We have pain included in our MMJ authorization. I would assume pain would be included in Florida.

Will help where I can. Good luck Florida and others states with Cannabis on the ballot in Nov.

Good question. It is all politics. In Florida, the major sponsor of MMJ has tied himself to the democratic candidate for governor. The gaming concerns come up for renegotiation next year after the elections.

Sheldon Adelson has poured 4 million dollars into the no on MMJ campaign and undisclosed amounts to the current Republican governor in the hopes that if the amendment fails and the Republican governor maintains his governorship he will be able to build 2 casinos in Florida, one in Tampa and one in Miami. Basically cash for political favors.

I cannot understand why people think organized crime, prostitution, alcohol and gambling are preferable to medicine for sick people. But money talks and it has bought one of the biggest negative mmj campaigns ever. Date rape brownies and drug dealing caregivers are just two of the lies they have convinced Floridians about.

FL MMJ--not to stereotype FL residents but there are a lot of seniors. I'm a senior in MN. I understand many are against MMJ.
Has word gone out to them (ads?) that MMJ is practically a miracle drug for pain and inflammation, which could dramatically help their quality of life?

You gotta remember a lot of seniors were also kinda the Real hippies and most I've talked to say they support it.

While those younger evangelical family value, right to life types seem the toughest hurdle. They won't question what they're "taught" from the pulpit even going as far as following to the letter little handouts they receive telling them how to vote on each position or issue 'if they're good Christians" and wanna go to heaven.

If people bother to vote at all this time I think it will pass but that's a big if. The county i live in only averages 8% of registered voters turning out for midterm elections .

VOTE PEOPLE WE CAN WIN THIS !!!

Downward spiral
Thanks for starting this thread @deadheadbill!!

I have been rallying at the early voting polls in the 727 as a volunteer for UFC. So far from the people who have walked by me on the way to vote, I have guestimated a 2-1, in favor of Amendment#2. This is just one of 4 or 5 early voting centers in Pinellas. But so far the busiest of the early voting places.

I figured those, who after seeing my "Yes On #2" shirt and signs, didn't even return a hello from me, were voting No on #2. The folks who were for Amendment #2 came up to get a Yes On #2 sticker or button from me, or gave me thumbs up, or beeped their car horn as they dropped of their absentee ballots.
By no means is my guestimate scientific, just wanted to give a little heads up that maybe, just maybe, all the talk of losing support for Amendment #2, is just that...cheap talk. Most of the news outlets reporting the big loss of Amendment #2 support are the same ones who came out against us. So it only makes sense that they try to schew the current public opinion.

We still need all the voters to get out there and vote, but PLEASE don't lose hope folks, we have come to far to let up now.

I will be attending the United For Care election night watch party in St. Pete, if any of you will be attending, feel free to PM me and say hello.

How did things in Florida get so close? In the early part of 2014, support polled at around 80%. It's now running an average of about 50% in the latest polls. There appears to be quite a few undecided (15%) as well. I'm hoping for the best for Florida residents, but I don't see it attracting the 60% required for passage. Undecided voters tend to go heavily with the status quo. I hope I'm wrong.

Just received a very professionally done flyer in the mail today from Turning Paint at Calvary, a Southern Baptist church in St. Augustine. I'm a good half hour from St. Augustine so I gotta figure these flyers are all over the place.

Title: Vote "No" on Amendment 2

The flyer has several quotes:
Know the facts:
1 Marijuana can be even more dangerous than alcohol. Consumption of marijuana impairs the immune system and short term memory, elevates the risk of heart attack, and causes respiratory and brain damage.

2 Legalizing marijuana = increased usage by minors - additional drug trafficking by criminal syndicates - increase in crime.

3 The social COSTS of legalizing marijuana will DWARF the meager taxes raised.

4 Kenneth Bell (former justice) rejects the amendment along with six other former supreme court justices.

Dr Alan Pillersdorf, Pres. Florida Medical Assoc. - Providing compassionate care to our patients is something we do everyday. We believe the unintended consequences of Amend 2 are serious and numerous enough for us to believe they constitute a PUBLIC HEALTH RISK FOR FLORIDIANS.

Legal experts state that the full text of the amendment "is plagued by loopholes and vagueness that would lead to a myriad of unintended and undesirable consequences.

Florida Sheriffs Passed Resolution to Oppose Legalization of Marijuana

Jeb Bush opposes the initiative to legalize the use of marijuana even for medical purposes.

Could they be more wrong?
More dangerous than alcohol? Not a chance
Causes brain damage? Preliminary studies are showing cannabis may help ward off Alzheimer's.

F#ucking scare tactics!!!!

Spent most of the day after lunch at an early voting poll in Pinellas county. Based on the people coming in and out of the election office, the support has not dropped. I would have to say 8/10 were positive towards Amendment #2. Either telling me outright or asking for a Yes On #2 button or bumper sticker.

One of the volunteers for the opposition, No On #2, was caught removing our political signs out of the ground. Justice served, I was told today that he has been banned from that particular office.

@Crohnie

To answer your question. Lies. No on 2 has mounted a 4 million dollar campaign financed by Sheldon Adelson. They are telling people it will create pot mills, kids can get it without parents permission, caregivers will be drug dealers etc etc. Not one truth is told in their ads but people are believing it.

These are the same tactics Republicans used in other states when it came to the mmj ballot.

Thankfully a good deal of people are much smarter than they would think.

I mean, they tried to sneak Mitt Romney past us

Thankfully we showed them we were way too smart for that one.

I have to admit I'm a little concerned about Amend 2 passing.....I'm not a native Floridian having moved here from Jersey. (That's pronounced JoyZee for you native Floridians ). I mention my prior state to note that when I moved here I could tell I wasn't in Kansas anymore...er, I mean Joyzee. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Joyzee is the poster child for political greatness either just stating the difference is noticeable to those who were not brought up here. If I could only remember where I stored the picture of the 'Beer and Guns Sold Here' sign I snapped when I first moved here :o

Here's why I'm concerned....Florida already has shown itself to be somewhat of a comic relief state when it comes to politics and let there be no doubt about it...its a conservative, Republican state with some of the toughest MJ laws in the nation. To top it off, look at the choices each major party has provided for Governor to us Floridians... Rick Scott (R) and Charlie Christ (D). ARE YOU KIDDING ME....I've never been so insulted in my life!!!! It's not uncommon for me to dislike the two major candidates in a race but this is setting a new high in lows .... and normally I like new highs

Seriously folks - the democratic party is phoning this one in. They're not even trying to raise the bar even a little. I don't remember where I read it but I believe both Rick Scott and Charlie Christ support Amend 2 and I hope that's the case because if this is split down party lines we're going to need all the four leaf clovers and comic relief associates we can find.

Rick Scott stands against amendment 2 Passing.

Thanks Rude....I see where I went off the rails....I saw the following and took it to mean Rick Scott was on board with Amend 2. He is not for Amend 2 while Charlie Christ is.

Scott did sign into law a bill this year legalizing a noneuphoric version of medical marijuana known as "Charlotte's Web" that has potential to help children with epilepsy.
