Discontinued The Herbalizer

Hey I just got my Herbie last week and overall I love it, but I have a couple issues.

1. I tend to try to strech my stash on weeknights and use less bud. I find the Herbie works amazing when I fill the oven up to where the bowl widens, but when I try to use less than that there is a big drop off.

2. The Ballons are working a lot better than my whip. I was looking forward to using the whip a lot but I just haven't been getting as lifted as I do when using the balloons. Idk why though.

Do you guys think there is something I should try or is that just how the Herbie is.... or is it just me?

It seems that herbie's extraction is such that the avb doesn't seem to affect me when made into edibles like firecrackers. I guess I need a lot of it? Maybe my tolerance was through the roof as I haven't been sober for 2 years.

I strongly disagree..I made a almond butter&jelly sandwich(honestly wasn't bad at all) with 2g from Herbie.
I was immobilized 2 hours in for another 2 hours. Regretted eating the entire sandwich so much during those 2 hours...

Just had a sesh with the stock tubing, and was coughing at 210c using high quality girl scout cookies (yum). I detected that same tangy taste after using it for a bit so I just did another ISO soak to see if it takes it out again. I much prefer using the HT with silicon adapter...and I never cough unless I use turbo mode with the fan assist. HT>Bags>Whip IMHO.

So I decided to do a super fine grind in my electric coffee grinder and the clouds and effects are much more pronounced. I can also get the ABV much darker! This is the way to go for me forsure, with the only negative being a bit more tedius with the brush cleaning the bowl. Getting a small 2 piece grinder today so hoping that will be even better.

Still can't believe how awesome this vaporizer is! I feel like I can hold in the vapour forever it's so smooth, and the flavour is just incredible!

Hi, sorry for the quick pop in for questions but after trying half dozen vaps now I want to be sure before I spend the most I ever have on a vap. Has anyone compared a fan assisted vapor off say a Extreme Q to the Herby? Is the vapor really that much better to justify the cost? Without the fan going on the Herbie is the "draw" hard as say the Solo (which is pretty much my choice of vap now for years). (Tried the Plenty, Cera, Da Vinci,Extreme Q, MFL, Silver Surfer) How long will the halogen bulb last (eg hours) and do you think there will be a lot of "new" vaps appearing on the market with the bulb heating method?. Many thanks for any answers from this great source of knowledge.

The only thing I can think of for #2 is maybe you are not hitting the whip enough. Bags homogenize the vapor...your get about four or five whip hits all mixed together for a blended experience. If you aren't hitting the whip until there is no visible vapor (what temps are you using?) then you aren't getting all the actives you would in a couple of bags.

As to #1 small loads work just fine in mine. But it will take three or four small loads to have the effect of a larger one. Typically, when doing smaller bowls, I end up saving because the effect sets in before I can fill that third, wasteful bowl.

2. We might not be. I think I'm still getting use to it. I've never breathed in vapor so effortless before, in terms of not feeling the hit at all in my throat. I usually start at 375/385 and go up 10/15 degrees whenever I don't see any more vapor. Also I'm usually sharing with one other person.

1. That sounds about right. I'll try a couple small bowls next time. Thanks

I find that sharing Herbie sucks! Those first few hits are amazing and when a friend is over i always let them have the pleasure of the first few hits. I am left with mostly depleted seconds so it takes a lot more to medicate myself.

Not too sure on the Fahrenheit temps but i start at 190 C, then 210 C then usually finish it off at MAX/
Empty the bowl/crush gently in bowl and vape the last bit of goodness out at MAX.

Maybe practise a bit by yourself? Find out the load size you need to finish it off in one hit.
Reload and then pass the whip to the next person.
That way both of you will get the same taste and hopefully effects!

As an aside i finally used Herbie again last night!!
It was hard to not use the MiniVap for a night...
BUT!!! What an awesome experience!!! Again!!
I had gotten a bit bored with Herbie's flawless vapor production, flavour and effect.

Now she is shining again and i think if i switch between the two i will be set!

@jivebuggered -- if you are happy with you're Extreme and mostly use it for whips, then the three things I think are better about Herbie for you are better bags (although some would debate that...tolerances need to be tightened), instant heat up and precise temp control. You can decide of those things are worth the extra money for you.

Thanks for the reply stickstones. I actually sold my Extreme Q mainly because it was out in the shed and best suited for lots of friends to share with (alas no friends) and also sold my Plenty on the weekend. I found that the Plenty took too much time to heat up and cool down and that long lead was a bit of a pain. When I first got the Plenty it seemed pretty good but when I went to use again quite a few months later (what`s that telling me!) I found I am not too keen any more on convection vaps . Since you have to breath deeply (like meditation breathing) to "fire up" the vapor I found after a couple of sessions it REALLY IRRITATED my diaphram so I sold it.
I really do find the Solo meets my needs because I have gotten used to the slightly harder draw but mostly because you can really taste the vapor. I guess I could compare the "bitey taste" I get with the Solo as opposed to other vaps (especially convection) to when I smoked cigrettes tailor made as opposed to roll your own! Also the Solo is economical and easy. The heat up time/recharging the only drawbacks. I still own the original ceramic bowl version and still going strong. NEVER had a issue at airports with the Solo compared to the CERA (pain in the arse). So been good for home and about.
The sale of the two vaps I was thinking of putting towards the Herbalizer hence the question is the vapor THAT MUCH BETTER then say the fan assisted "shotgun" hit off the Extreme Q compared to the fan assisted hit off the Herbalizer? This is one of the most important questions for me to justify the price. All of the vaps listed I have owned in previous post have never kept me cpming back to them for various reasons (maybe im a vap junkie?) You can`t even buy a Herbalizer here in Australia at the moment anyway and im not sure if I went and paid the EXTRA money with postage if the warranty would cover me in Australia? I have a transformer left over from the CERA journey that would convert to Aussie power. Thanks

Decided to splurge and loaded twice what I usually do (which is right before the bowl widens at the top) and dropped a tiny ball of wax on top of that.
Currently on massive hit #16..possibly about to tap out :ko:
Must keep going forward in the name Ofscience :argh::science:

The herbalizer is noticeably better to me than the EQ. I believe it was the ceramic heater in the EQ that caused me to often lose my sense of taste. I very rarely have that problem with the Herbie. I think the quartz covered halogen bulb really keeps the taste cleaner. The airpath inside has not seemed to have caused me any issue and it tastes fantastic. With my hydratube setup I feel I have the best vape combo out there now.

I've owned the EQ for years and the Herbie for weeks. There isn't even a comparison. It's all about the money now....if you've got it, great - the Herbie blows away the EQ. If not, the EQ will give you bags and whip vapour, just won't be the same, or nearly as fun! And for what it's worth, I like the Solo light years more than the EQ.

I finally got around to looking up the herbie patents—amazing stuff! (not that I claim to understand it) If you just want the money shot, I'll save you the trouble:

The fan operation is understandably confusing due to the audible feedback, and what may seem like random behavior. The simple answer is that, the cooling fan turns on when needed, or a little sooner, and will remain on longer than needed. The reason the cooling fan turns on sometimes sooner than needed and stays on longer than needed, is for reliability. It's an ingrained NASA thing. If your cooling fan is not running, or you 'tricked' your Herbie into turning off the cooling fan before it stops on its own, that is totally OK. If the system needs the cooling fan it will turn it on.

The slightly less simple answer is that the cooling fan control is based on three variables: measured temperature, setpoint temperature, and time.

For the vapegeeks like me (that's everyone here.. right?!), here's the logic behind it. We would prefer silence, but in a closed system the cooling fan is simply a necessity so it is programmed to turn off as much as reasonably possible. The cooling fan is activated when the computer board (i.e. sensitive electronics) exceeds a particular temperature threshold, and remains on until the temperature drops below a slightly lowered temperature threshold plus three (3) minutes (this is called hysteresis and operates with similar logic as a common home thermostat); or, if the temperature is 421F or higher for more that three (3) minutes the cooling fan will turn on and run continuously, until the temperature is lowered to 420 or less for three minutes or more and the computer is cool enough. 420 is the highest temperature that won't cause the cooling fan to automatically turn on after three minutes.
So you cloud chasers get to listen to the cooling fan more than the rest. Remember what I said above - if you 'trick' your Herbie into turning off the cooling fan before its stops on its own, that is totally OK, because it will turn on when needed. There are several ways to 'trick' the cooling fan off: switch to aromatherapy mode and then back to vaportherapy mode, or tilt it dizzy for a moment and then back again.

The cooling fan noise is more annoying than I would have liked. When I left there was a plan for replacing it with a near-silent fan. Samples had been ordered, but testing hadn't started. I cannot predict when, or if, that improvement will be implemented.

Winter is coming. Herbie makes a wonderful belly warmer when its cold.

You've got a lot of intertwined questions there @spincut. First, the "whole other fan [that] just starts running constantly" is the cooling fan. The answer above hopefully explains that what appears to be random, isn't.

The fan that pops on intermittently during use and produces a chattering sound along with a puff of vapor (NOT SMOKE!! :goon:) is understandably weird. Essentially, that fan - which is the same as the assisted delivery fan - periodically stirs the air inside the Thermal Reaction Chamber (TRC) (I really like that term.. what's it going to take to add another acronym to the vapor lexicon? :D ). Anyway, the thermal dynamics of the TRC are very complicated and naturally wants to develop "cold spot" and "hot spots." It was discovered that the TRC performance is optimal when the system is in balance without hot spots; in other words, when the heat distribution across the system is even. This makes possible more predictable heat transfer, and therefore control of the output temperature. So the intermittent puffs are caused by the computer recognizing an imbalance and redistributing the heat. When the system is just starting out and is "cold," it is more prone to developing hot spots because different parts are sucking away heat and causing cold spots, causing the surrounding areas to become hot spots. Once your Herbie is warmed up you'll notice the puffs less and less. Don't over think it - I already did! :mental:

@biohacker - great question too, I'll answer it on my next post.

Hi can anyone tell me if a frequency/voltage converter with this output: 75W max at 120 volts (0.625 amps) would be ok for the Herb? There (Herbalizer) spec says: Power Consumption: 300 W (max), 20 W (typical) Its the 20W typical I like to see but the 300W max worries me Thanks

Has ANY EUROPEAN member taken the plunge and bought the Herbie for there country without the warranty and somehow got around the power requirements, would really like to know?? I dont think I can hold out till they get there export versions together whenever that is? Ta
