Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I've used shatter and wax. I put mine in the middle of my herb and vape in the oven without the jar. I used wax inside of cotton. I just clean the oven when still warm. @glenda is the only person I've heard that had success with the jars. I try to keep up on this thread. I could have missed something.

Glenda, you put wax in the jar with a hole in the bottom? Did I get that right? Did you use cotton?

EDIT
So you are using gauze. Like hemp gauze?

While we are talking about concentrates now i have a question. i've seen a few different methods discussed (just putting it in the glass jar, surrounding it with flowers, etc). Is there an established "better" or at least most popular way of using concentrates with the Ascent or is it really just trial and error to see what works. My connect for wax is a bit pricy, so I would rather not have to waste much on trial and error. Also, how much concentrate is needed for big results i think i had seen .05g somewhere but that sounds unrealistically small.

Kluz, if you see above all I vape is concentrates, as seen in my profile picture ;o) As explained before I was disappointed as mildly felt and tasted the vapur and got a hit but lacked that extra punch until I accidentally put a hole through bottom corner of the jar (i will do in both corners with glass drill bit). I had thought before this the concentrate needed the through air flow you get with Artizer, Instantly I saw vapour as I exhaled and I got the bright high hits I was used to...before this it worked but lacked the up/high and calm I am used to with the Solo. I have contacted DaVinici to suggest they supply concentrate jars with small holes in the bottom ( that dont allow crumbled concentrate through. I also moulded a gauze so it sat just inside top of the jar with the outer edges bent to sit on top of jar rim so no concentrate blocks glass stem above.

Hope that helps.

See my profile pic as that's my regular concentrate, I dont use wax or shatter, just old school product. not wanting to repeat myself and create duplicated posts see above...you need hole/s in the bottom of the jar to create air flow the concentrate needs to create vapour and the hit/dose you desire. no cotton needed with what I use.

Aside from cotton, the most traditional way people are using concentrates is over a bed of flowers (plant kind, not the glass kind also mentioned on this thread)

At this point I just have portables. I like something small and powerful and the Ascent is that. This January will be 2 years since I've been combustion free. I'm spreading the good word one friend at a time.

I too had a collection of PNP but ended up getting rid of them, i do not like them what so ever. I now have two ViVape 2 just laying around as well lol You have had your ascent for a while now, would you mind telling me what temps you use yourself? And do you plan on getting anything new or heard of anything new that should be a game changer??

Ok if you use flowers, I don't, exclusively use concentrate but was aware of this method, cheers

@glenda The wax doesn't make a mess in the bottom of the oven? Just curious so the rest of us might learn something. I was worried that the oil would seep into the holes at the bottom of the oven. I might not be familiar with your concentrates that you are using.

We've had some members try using the jar with wax (no lid) and it tipped over and made a mess so just curious. Some tried using with the lid and that didn't work.

My concentrates are as pictured in profile pic... full of plant matter, traditional concentrate /plant pollen. so no, no dripping but oil heavy and fresh. With wax or oils you cannot use this method. Also don't crumble too fine.

Before making the hole in bottom corner it took temps of 210-221 celcius to get a dose and not a great one like I am now - with hole getting visible nice vapour hits. I tried originally at 205 then 210 but it came out charred looking not mummified ;0)

You get about ten hits out of whole jar crumbled and squashed in... with 5 celcius climb in temp at then end... leaves you glowing

Hope that helps

Have you tried just dropping a chunk in the oven, whole? Or adding a fine screen in the bottom, and then adding crumbled? I haven't seen that particular variety of 'concentrate' since my old combustion days , so I can't imagine how messy it would or wouldn't get in a vape.

I Did think think about doing that but know how gunked up bowls have got in past.., needed wire wool and isopropyl with my first vaporiser, the iOlite. Glass jar I feel contains the mess and need to constantly clean. You would have to clean every time and it really sticks to glass sides when it cool, needs good soak and you can't do that with the bowl/unit, I think cotton wool buds and alcohol would be hard work. So far, jar and both glass stems in isopropyl overnight and is good to go, bowl looks shiny and new and odd spillage easily cleaned. I did think when on move if you had several jars pre packed and use silicon lid to seal, until ready to use in conjunction with gauze, it would be a quick and handy - glass ''bullets' - so no repacking of bowl in public, extra stealth

does putting the wax on top of flowers limit the mess well or is there still a good amount of crud that gets left in the bowl

If you have the wax in the middle of your herb, the herb absorbs the oil. Your herb will get really dark. It cleans up with a q-tip while still warm. I do it at night before bed all the time. If you want just wax use cotton. Put your wax inside the cotton. I've never seen that type of concentrate in @glenda avatar at the dispensaries that I go to. I just started using concentrates last spring, so I'm new. That's why I'm curious how others do it.

Saw edit, no just a metal gauze as lid to allow airflow and to stop product being sucked into glass stem

Hi all. In the final stages of purchasing a Da Vinci.

Heard on the review by VapeFiend that the device emits quite a lot of smell of herb when being used and that this means it's not the most stealthy of devices in that regards. I like to use mines standing outside a pub with friends smoking cigarettes, also using in my room at home. Can anyone elaborate on wether this is an issue they've had with the device?

The review also mentions it's not hugely efficient compared to other vapes, one of my big points for vaping is the money saving aspects. Has this been something anyones noticed? Cheers

Welcome!

After having the Ascent for a while now. I will say it does have an odor - especially near the oven. I thought it would only be noticeable when in use, but I noticed an odor as soon as I removed the Ascent from the included drawstring pouch. I wasn't expecting it to have that level of odor from it.

I personally don't use my Ascent in those sort of scenarios - the glowing OLED screen is an attention-getter - as is the glass mouthpiece (I usually only slide the mouthpiece 0.25" up, but still, its visible).

The Ascent is the best tasting portable vape I own. But for hanging out with my smoking buddies at the pub, I usually prefer to take my Indica vape.

Got me new ascent yesterday night and I cant seem to get rid of the electronic fart smell and taste. I have done 5 burnoffs now at the highest level and it is still very prevalent. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?

When you begin using the vaporizer, the pores in the materials will open up with the heat and the flavor will faint away the more you use it. Nothing in the Ascent is toxic but the smell will not go away on its own.

Ok thanks for the response. I guess I will try more burn offs because there is no way I could use it how it is now.

edit- I have done a couple more burnoffs now and it is sill just absolutely disgusting to draw through this thing. I tried to vape a bowl and it made me want to throw up it was so bad.

Most of my Ascents lost the electronic fart taste after 5 burnoffs and 1-2 loads. One unit carried decreasing bad taste for 5-6 loads. All ended up tasting really good after a week.
Just got my 5th RMA today. I am returning the Carbon Fiber to GotVape. They were pleasant and efficient with the RMA. They did charge me $9.90 for the shipping of the warenty replacement
My batteries lost function. The unit would not work in any manner unless plugged in.
I do have my Croc Skin backup. I am nervous never the less until I get my Carbon Fiber replaced. Combustion backup is not an option. They estimated a 9-10 day turn around. LUV THE 2 YEAR WARRENTY !!!!

I hear ya. It's tough to 'separate the wheat from the chaff'. I think part of this has to do with personal sensitivity. Lots/most of the 'high reject owners' seem to have multiple returns for 'mystery vapor', 'toxic fumes I don't want', 'maggot gagging smells' and so on. Not all that many out and out failures to function, and those almost all in the very earliest units? Most guys don't object to 'rubber smells' and such. It's statistically impossible for a few guys to get more than there share of the random distribution so there has to be a difference in the individual judgement.

Nothing wrong with that, of course, but it clouds the basic 'will I like it?' question. It's likely, IMO, that they may be 'outliers' relative to you (and me for that matter.....). I think that there's lots of happy owners around here, in an environment that tends to give undue weight (statistically) to guys with problems.

In the end, you have to decide if you're looking for what most guys are.......and seem to have found with Ascent? Remember, "There's more old drunks than there are old Doctors".

If you're this interested, I suggest you go for it...... I think the odds of your being unhappy in the end are long indeed.

The performance and functionalbility still make this a buy. Just have a backup and buy from Puffitup's site. They have free shipping for returns.

Why don't you check out the other threads out on FC? You will see the Solo has over 1200 pages. Just read through the last 20 or 25.

I have an Ascent and a Solo. They are both very good vaporizers. I use the Solo more. You can only look through the info and decide for yourself. Vapor flavor is very subjective.

Some folks are very sensitive to certain smells and tastes. Its good to have more than one vaporizer. You always need a backup.

Did more burnoffs throughout the day and got it to the point I was comfortable enough to actually vape through it. Surprisingly for the first 3/4 the session I didnt notice the flavor at all as the weed flavor over powered it , but It did come back near the end after I upped the temp to 420 to finish the bowl off. At this point I have a lot of faith that the smell/taste will completely go away some time soon.

@Zow237 I have both the solo and an ascent now. I do like the ascent more at this point but thats probably just be new vaporizer excitedness on my part. I like the lack of draw restriction the ascent has. The restriction has always been my least favorite part of the solo. Anyways I would definitely recommend both of them for someone looking for a solid battery powered portable vaporizer.
