Green Lasers and Vapor!

Still being a vapor noob, I've seen people comment that one should use a bright light to see the invisible vapors produced even after you think the ABV is cached. I usually keep a light nearby so I can check when I'm trying to conserve a bit, but rarely use it.

Today I tried a green laser pointer instead of my LED light. Holy SHIT! It's like watching the vapor streams in high-def! Good thing I'm not throwing away my ABV, there's a goldmine in my stash!!

Here's some pictures of what it looks like, I used a fresh load for pictures. But when vapor is produced, you can see a glowing laser beam, and when clearing the chamber, the beam breaks and you only see both sides of the tube illuminate.

Yes, I'm a geek, and damn proud of it! :science:

Edit - here's a good picture of the beam once the load is producing mostly wispy invisible vapor - you can see a nice solid beam, and streams of vapor naked to the eye:

Salutations Ratchett,

...I've seen people comment that one should use a bright light to see the invisible vapors...

There's nothing i can think of which pleases me more than toking in the veranda when it's sunny outside, because such visible feedback (at an angle) renders my pipe ritual even more enjoyable.

Actually i think you could as well have titled your present thread "Green LASERs for vapor" instead:

« ...using a mere 15 Watts heat source... ...once the bowl's content has changed from green to golden-brown i suppose the heating process stops, making it self-regulating, similarily to induction heating which ends when the Curie point is reached... This could very well be the next best NO BRAINER scenario!!! »

Hummm... A "no-brainer" for the blind... :D Though i vaguely recall this wasn't exactly a "LASER" being demonstrated on the YouTube video - which i can no longer link to anyway.

Here's some pictures of what it looks like...

Good, it looks *GOOD*!!

I don't mind when the taste goes. Of course it's best and most complex when the terpenes are still in full effect, but the more "spent" taste has it qualities as well. I usually do two sessions on setting one and/or two in the PnP (one sesh being `till the auto shut off kicks in), and after that there is not much vapor left, but I still make capsules with coconut oil and lecithin (based on the BKS method). These are mild, and good for pain relief and sleep.

Point is, I feel a lotta folks stop vaping when there's still lots of vapor left in the material.

To each his/hers own

Be careful when you shoot a laser at glassware! A stray reflection might hit your eye.

For us science folks this is a big NO NO. Chances are our lasers are more powerfull than your pointer though.

And thinking about it, green light is not as dengerous as other wavelenghts, you should be safe. Wear orange sunshades to be extra safe LOL

Indeed, always a valid warning! I've seen what green laser points can do in a second to an expensive DSLR rig! Thankfully my laser is only 4 or 5mW

@Dafni Isn't it better and safer to just point it at the vapors one exhales?

Definitely. Everything's better than pointing it on a reflective object with round shapes of all sorts. It's pure warning bells for me. But like I said, I'm conditioned by workin among strong lasers.

Ratchett, for what it's worth, we once tested a 5mW pointer and it turned out to provide 20mW with full batts... better be safe than sorry.

Not to be a spoil sport, just sharing thoughts. Maybe I'm a bit over-cautious because of my background.

Salutations NorVape,
Salutations Dafni,

Similar here, to me it's like preferences over food: some like theirs fresh while others let it age a bit (their appreciation eventually may have evolved while they also got older themselves), etc... So i keep spent material (ABV) around for my blending needs, to avoid side-effects; no flagrance but convenient and i wouldn't want to dry it out completely anyway.

A stray reflection might hit your eye.

This made me want to revisit my archived post and then i remembered all the sudden:

« The human eye has a peak sensitivity in the yellow-green region, around 550 nanometers. »
It seems vegetal leaves happend to reflect back green light (complementary response), implying it may not work to expect some auto-regulation mechanism offering control over heat from a green LASER... But i wouldn't mind if it still had a chance to work using another colour (or two).

At least light shows would make great features to add to any ritual! Mine anyway and with a bit of sizzling too, perhaps...

Salutations Farscaper,

...an endless concert IN MY BONG!

Now that you mention it...

That's no LASER but ain't this some Light 'n Sound entertainment of its own kind?!...

:D

How about an elongated donut-shaped plasma bulb acting as a radiator for a vaporizing bowl located in its center, separated by quartz glass? Because even if such "plasma" could prove useful as a heat source it's most likely there would be ozone generated, which i doubt can be tolerated in any cannabic path.

Oh my! Induction already rendered obsolete: here comes the Plasma Vape!! Litterally...

Shine one through a bag of vapor for sick effect. Esp while filling, it gets brighter and brighter.
If you want to shine it at the vapor you exhale, hold it by your chin and shine it straight forward where you exhale for the best result. also avoid using over 5mW and looking at the dot up close without appropriate goggles. Sunglasses don't work btw lol. They dim it but dont protect your eyes very well with lasers.

You missed the most important part - make sure you do the "pssshhhhttt" sound of a light saber being draw while exhaling ;)

Grab some different colored lasers and fulfill all your Star Wars fantasies
