Crafty/Crafty+ by Storz & Bickel

Great Scott!
It'd be nice if the Crafty's app could run on any computer, rather than just on iOS or Android.

I guarantee you this can happen if someone wanted to write custom drivers or reverse engineer the app, but I'd be surprised if S&B wasn't already planning on releasing one.

I agree most people who don't have smart phones are probably in countries where spending $400+ on a vape is not possible either. Sure there are some that simply prefer a "dumbphone" but I bet they are getting rarer and rarer. I'm seeing elderly people with smartphones even, and they are usually the last group in 1st world countries to adopt technology.

Either way its great to have both options. I know I could be 100% fine with the crafty since I always have my phone on me, but the mighty having double battery life is quite tempting too.

I'm still waiting a bit but I might get one some day. No idea which one I'd prefer, depends on the size of the mighty, and more how people feel about the battery life on the crafty. Also how fast it recharges, specifically in the car ideally.

I'm pretty excited to see how both do.

That link shows a chart comparing all of S&B's vaporizers.
I see they're using Lithium bats, so the question of replacement cost is something to consider. A 2 yr. warranty on both portables, vs. 3 for their AC models, is also interesting. It's possible they may go to 3 yrs. down the road, since that's what they did with the Digit.

The Crafty is pretty lightweight at 135g, vs. the Mighty at 230g (about the same as the Solo). Some other pocket portables-

Indica- 157g
DaVinci- 164g
Flowermate- 184g

This is simply false. According to the first article I found by searching "percentage of smartphone users 2014" >> Nearly two-fifths of all mobile phone users—close to one-quarter of the worldwide population

...and that's only a projection. In my book 1/4 of the population is not "most people", sorry to nitpick.

If you can find me 10 people in the market for a 300$ vape that don't have a smartphone, iPod, or tablet I will PayPal you ten US dollars.

@Jared I'll PM you my address I can use that Ten spot for sure.
Around here most of the people I know are on disability and will qualify as MMJ patients once Florida passes this MMJ bill this coming election very Few of them can afford a smart phone plan every month nevermind the phone itself, most can't afford to even have a computer or internet.

They may actually save up money for a one time purchase of a vaporizer they see as a medical benefit.
I never actually see myself needing or wanting a stupid "smartphone".

We all also have I-pod classics since the touch sucks compared to 160gb classic but that won't help me much.

I think that you could run the app on pc by using a emulator, as you can download the app file straight from the Storz&Bickel- site. For those who need to adjust the basic temperature settings on a pc.

PS. I think that in modern days, it's not too far fetched to assume/go to a direction where people have "smart" mediadevices available for use in all aspects of life. Like the computer some time ago, it's becoming a "standard". And we are all typing to this forum on some sort of a computer probably :D

It is interesting how lightweight this is, I guess bc of all the plastic (and aluminum too). I do wish plastic wasn't used so heavily, but flavors good? Looks like a lot of conduction in the mighty video (decent amount of clouds coming out in between hits)

It kind of reminds of Inhalater with all the plastic that helps keep it lightweight, but crafty/mighty/plenty have an aluminum bowl, not ceramic (or steel) ? I think I'd sooner go crafty than mighty if you can change temp quickly via Bluetooth anyway. And 2 temps is serviceable, Elevape only has 3 itself (tho it can go up to 450F... but can also combust if you draw too slow since its instant puff on demand vapor) , but Elevape needs to be plugged in to change temps as well (but its instant heat was worth the $260 sale price, dono if it would be worth its like $330 retail). I wonder how crafty battery length is and how efficient as well...

But $400... Without a coupon its kinda crazy I must admit for one portable without replaceable batteries especially (but use while USB charging is nice if it can, battery packs if needed). If this one goes up on massdrop for like 280 then maybe I think I could handle it (maybe... Ideally it'd be even less lol)

It sure is expensive, but for once, the euro price is reasonable :D Usually every product that is for example 250$, is directly translated to 250€ or more. This time the euro price is cheaper than in dollars. I'm talking about new / hard to get products in Europe, which most new vapes are.

One thing is sure, this annoucement creates buzz like an Apple event! And I'm under the impression it appeals to the same crowd. :p

The post rate in this thread is insane! More reviews please!
Why would you think this appeals to the same kind of people that would buy apple products?

Apple is known for making incredibly cheap products and selling them for an insanely marked up price.

Storz & Bikel are known for creating incredibly high quality products that don't break for a very high price.

One market is going after the product because of the name, the other market is going after the product for the companies reputation.

Huge difference if you ask me.

If this was truly the case, they would not be nearly as successful as they are. While I totally understand that this may be your "opinion", it is not, by any means, a fact.

Storz & Bikel are known for creating incredibly high quality products that don't break for a very high price.

All products break, including S&B products.

One market is going after the product because of the name, the other market is going after the product for the companies reputation.

Really? Here's the deal. I've been a Mac user since the mid '80's and I purchase their product because I've found that not only have they been super dependable and virtually virus free, and VERY easy to set up and operate, I also have always loved their aesthetic design. For me, as I have no doubt for others as well, it's all about the product..........not the name.

What is true though is that both your statements as well as mine about Apple can just as easily be applied to S&B.

Fanboys of any company, be it S&B, Apple or any other company really need to be a bit less myopic when talking about specific product and not let their corporate passions get the better of them especially when their posts can have an impact on those who are thinking about making future purchases.

Can't wait to see some more reviews. Any idea on battery life?

Edit*

I love my Apple products as well Lwien. They do exactly as advertised every time I need them to. No blue screens, screen freezes, constant updates, and bug fixes for me. I wish Apple would make more "Incredibly cheap" products for me to waste my money on.

Apple VS PC and apple vs android is fun and all, but lets stay on topic. I could talk for hours about that in the off topic section though :p

Thats a good point @Jealousy There is a free official android emulator. The app is free. You could install it and theoretically use "android on PC". There are also android distributions in x86 that you can install in a VM if you really want to go all out. The good news is S&B seem confident enough to say it WILL be coming for Apple, which is a bold claim since it can be denied for any reason at all, so chances are good it got some kind of unofficial approval for them to say that.

Can someone clarify the charging options/differences? Am I correct that the crafty can charge over USB but the mighty cant? If it can charge over usb, the new quickcharge 2.0 chargers for some newer phones would be interesting. Higher power chargers even for devices that don't support quickcharge, but less so than those that do.

If the crafty does USB, then its suddenly more appealing than the mighty almost.

One more thing the mighty might sway me back with .... what increments do the temps go up in with the physical buttons? I'm trying to decide how much temp makes a difference, as in what kind of increments am I going to really use? I don't mind changing temps on the app one bit, but I want to see how long of a process that actually is vs using the buttons. I don't mind using my phone at all, but I want to know which will have a better user experience. Sadly the larger size of the mighty loses it some points, but its totally forgiveable with the double battery life. I mean my firefly is huge/heavy, but I love it to death and don't even mind the size or weight in real usage.

Choices let everyone win I guess!

Did you see the video uploaded in the Mighty vape- chain? Seems to me increase/ decrease in singles and by holding down the button, it starts to count faster.

I hope the Crafty has same potential as the mighty. The center piece looks pretty much identical so maybe they haven't touched it too much for the Crafty. I already downloaded the app and it seems pretty good on the phone.

After watching that I want the crafty more than the mighty haha. SO BIG. Maybe the battery life will woo me back, but the crafty is on top right now for me.

The crafty app is so well made that I actually kind of want to use this one now.... Its really slick. I like the hours used statistics etc. Very neat setup.

I hope my local shop gets them soon so I can check it out in person.

Ya know what I lOVE about that vid. I love how fast the display temp changes when it's being hit and how fast it changes between hits. For me, that is a MAJOR plus.

Sigh........... I will only make one more comment on this and then leave it go because it is soon off topic. There's a reason why ANYTHING, be it Apple, a movie, a book, or any other product gains a cult following and it's usually based around a positive experience with that product.

Ok, I'm done on this......

When my unit arrives I'll know for sure, but I'm a bit worried about the saw like- edge of the Crafty and the top part when transporting it on a pocket etc.

The saw edge can be quite useful for a grip not to slip but at the same time it can be somewhat troublesome getting it out of the pocket. The saw like- edge could also be a heat- related design, as the main body may get a bit warm after intense use, so the saw edge prevents a full contact when holding the unit and also increases the surfaces area for the unit to cooldown maybe?

Other thing is the mouthpiece, I hope it doesn't brake/ twist too much when transporting.

I hope the Crafty app works similar in real time, atleast it seems so based on the info on the manual and the app preview.

Jealousy,

Unapproved commercial account.
Batt life is like 8 bowls on a full charge. Heat up time is like 70-80 sec. It heats up faster when turned on after the auto shutoff turns the unit off. I'm interested in finding out what the batt life is like on the Mighty

Yes it's called a heat sink, commonly made out of aluminum and used for keeping electronics cool by dissipating the heat inside an encloseure.

Thank you for the video! How long is one bowl aprox? Have you tried the app with it?

PS. Relating to the body being a heatsink, is it aluminum on the body part or plastic?

8 bowls per battery, and flavor of the firefly. If both of those are true I'll almost definitely get the crafty lol.

Just called my local headshop and told those guys about it. They thanked me and said they'd look into it. Gotta support the locals + it makes me wait a bit longer lol.
