Since I added the wire to my button a few days ago. I have not had any issues with the 8 or the herc sr74. I'm using the heating chamber directly on the 8 since the sr74 bottom adapter isn't working. It fires every time and seems to heat up faster.

@TommydCat well hold on, you mean to say that you get your Hercules to fire consistently all the time by adjusting the center pin all the way down?

and your concern is that you have to adjust it for other attachments?
Yessir!
The only way I currently see it is there can be an issue only when the SR74 bottom adapter spring contact has lost its compression capabilities, that is why we are upgrading everyone to the SR71 bottom adapter.
This is very true for my SR-74 (which I know I zapped the small spring). The bottom pin of the SR-74 adapter will never get a solid contact because there's no pressure (and you can't quite screw it "all the way" like the Persei).

An aside from that - I borrowed the bottom from a friend's SR-74 with a good bottom spring to come to the rest of my conclusion (the pin would sometimes hit the side of the nut). This resulted in some inconsistency, but re-seating the SR-74 would usually get it to fire up... (The misfire would happen only after just putting SR-74 on - if it was working it would remain working).

The idea that the pin was hanging a bit on the side of the nut came about because if I adjusted the nut under the "top" of the pen (moving it "out of the way"), it would fire correctly every time.

So yes, adjusting the top pin is a total solution (I know I'm not going to sell you on the cap idea ;))

Unfortunately I had to give the borrowed SR-74 bottom back, but you're already taking care of me over the phone :)
But the truth is now the SR71 bottom adapter is adjustable as well thats going to add another factor in the formula.
SR74 was "auto adjust", but yeah, I see where you're going.
The whole idea of the center pin on the 8 is if one nut is lost you can still use the other one, but if we make the top nut with a cover and that's lost then its now useless.
Quirky way to mitigate support calls, but hopefully they (myself included!) start to be careful after losing the first one ;)
Please confirm if your 74 fires consistently with the nut all the way down.
This is indeed the case. I believe that having the nut adjusted upwards for a 510 cart and leaving the same for the SR-74 is what lead to the inconsistency, and lowering the nut as you say seemed to clear the issue.
Edit.

I asked for another member to send their 8 in they where having and issue with.

Guess what?

I didnt even adjust anything. I took the Hercules from the video i posted up earlier and just put it on and fired it up.

I already did 25 power ups and all the time it powered right up. no inconsistencies.
I'm going to test 25 times as well after I leave work in a minute :)

there is no problem we cant resolve together, and getting the public educated on the 8 is top priority atm.

Many people having issues are based on user error and i understand its frustrating people.

@konmo

As for now the new button assemblies are still in testing to help relieve some of the user errors that are happening and miss conceptions on how the button on the 8 should feel.

this will include a whole new button assembly.

But all of the issues people are experiencing with the 8 is due to inexperience with the 8.

Same thing happened with the Hercules SR71, if anyone remembers that debacle.

here is the video if anyone misses it.

Not everyone has been having these problems with the 8.

I agree with tommydcat that the 74 bottom adaptor makes poor contact when the adjustment nuts are set any higher than the top pin. I run the nuts all the way down to make a large flat surface for the spring-loaded pin of the -74 bottom adaptor to mate against.

The first time I used my -74 on the herc it worked fine. The second time it didn't work well and I instantly realized it was due to my bottom spring being pretty collapsed. I'd been aware of this for months but had never had a problem with it on the Persei, still works every time on all my V1 and V2 heads and Hammer top too, The reason the bottom spring lost its "springiness" I think, is because I am always over tightening my Hercules when I am twisting the Nibbler XL onto it... I even lube the o rings with vaseline, but the force of the twist+push is significantly higher than the force needed to attach the Herc to the Persei (or to the 8). I actually killed one of my V1 tops when I pressed the button just after putting the Nibbler on. That was when I learned how critical it is to unscrew the Nib+Herc from the Persei and re seat it by just barely tightening....
------
When I realized it wasn't working because my bottom adapter's spring was collapsed I did 2 things.

I ordered a new -74 double-spring bottom thing from @nao12000

I put my -71 on the 8 and it didn't work at all.

I adjusted the two jam nuts on the 8 top pin up a tiny amount.

I then became extremely medicated.

I think going back to the -71 bottom adjuster is a great idea. I think it will fix issues unrelated to the 8 as well.
------
I didn't like the -74x upgrade aside from the non-threaded top cap. I went back to the -74 chambers and rod placement. The 74 has the best rod placement for 2 coils which is how I prefer to use my herc! I can load a gram of wax, budder, even honeycomb which some say is the worst-case scenario for the Herc- I melt it in with a heat gun- hard tack near "shatter" even... I can then leave the entire Nibbler+Herc assembled for a week or more at a time which does miracles for my laziness.....

I also seem to get significantly more leakage into my lower chamber with the 74x. When I use my SR-71 and SR-74 I can go an extremely long time in between cleanings. I've actually only cleaned my -71 one time it just keeps going and going and going. With the 74x I was always ending up with reclaim in the lower chamber... I can't explain this, and don't know why it would be, but it just is (for me).

I ended up going back to the SR74 chambers too. For me they worked better including at 3.7 black rod operation. Incase anyone cares. I ended up using the SR74x thread less cap on the SR74 chamber. Works great once you have a little bit of oil on the inner threads to seal the chamber nicely. In other words I am using the SR74 with a SR74x thread less top cap

Hate to distract from the important 8/Herc topic being discussed, but wondering... As I am awaiting availability of the 8 and SR74, I couldn't help an impulse purchase of a Vaped nano 510 at a local dispensary. Its so tiny, its the ultimate in stealth. And I find the battery runtime pretty good for its size - more than suitable for my usage. So it came with a Vaped globe attachment w ti coil. I find it all very functional, but notice a somewhat metallic/stenchy flavor with CO2 oil, even with the standard cart. Same weird flavor on both carts with two different strains of CO2.

As I have used my cera eo (all flavor) til now, I am unfamiliar with how these types of carts normally taste. Is the wierd taste common to this type of heating arrangement, or should I opt for W9 KISS and GLOBE carts when I go to place my next order?

Can't comment on the Vaped other then you could have gotten the same setup cheaper with us by $20

Other then that our globes use the second generation wicking material and combined this with Ti gr2 coil your not going to have any taste associated with the hardware.

So just tried and subsequently got stoked on a buddies kiss cart on my short tube. Using 18350s with gr2 cart, how long can i expect it to run before the coil burns out? or if i keep it clean will it last a while? I used to get 2 weeks off of those fucky cloud vapes and the like. Not that im unhappy with herc, but i havent disengaged the nibbler since i got it, and its now much less than pocket portable. The shorty and kiss combo is fun.

let me know how it turns out.

SO I spent most of yesterday evening playing with my button screw placement using a multimeter and the core. I think I've got the sweet spot. MIGHT need to crank it back very slightly, like not even half a MM.

I've got it to where I don't need to mash the button in and jam my finger to get it to fire consistently

HOWEVER through my use with the multimeter I have noticed that the button definitely makes a better contact with a slight upwards push, and even though I don't necessarily need to jam the button, it does need solid, even pressure. The smallest bit of finger adjustment while holding the button and I would see voltage drops from 4.15 down to 2 or even 0 at times depending on how much pressure was let off (and it did not require much difference)

a significant imrpovement in usage quality overall, though I still feel like if the center pins were D shaped with the flat side against the button.

if initial assembly could go like this, i think it would improve things:
-PTFE top and bottom cap
-button assembly
-top and bottom pins
THEN once the top and bottom pins are in place, if you were able to depress the button and screw it in to the point of making a flush solid contact

but if you feel like you have to jam your button, definitely fiddle with your button screw

@THC SCIENTIFIC you should update your website to state that the 1701 carts require the user to purchase the KISS Globe in order to use the 1701. I made this mistake and had to wait a week to get it working, but now I can say its well worth it. Its soo good that I have converted all my KISS carts to the donuts.
For now Im just throwing the ceramic wicks used in the regular KISS carts on top of the donuts which seem to work but dont hold as much material.

When will you make the ceramic rings used in the 1701 available to buy?

In search of the best terps and smoothest vapor
So the Hercules learning curve is taking me a bit to get past, but I think I almost there. I get good consistent clouds with wax. However, with shatter, my results are really inconsistent. I can get the shatter going for a while, but then it gets whispy. After a cool down, I can get a good few draws with shatter then it goes whispy again. Any suggestions or thoughts on what I could be doing wrong?

I also have some CO2 oil that is will flow slowly over several days due to gravity. Am I asking for problems with leaking if I use this type of oil in the Hercules?

BTW, with waxes at least, I am really digging the Persei/Hercules setup. Just need to figure out these last questions.

thevaf please let us know what makes it so good - flavor, easy loading, consumption, all of the above ?
I have done the kiss 1701 donut swap as well. As of now I would say the best characteristic of the 1701 donut is taste. Smooth tasty vapor. Loading is a easy , the whole donut is a dark ceramic wick. I usually just melt it in until I have a nice thin pool on top. Same as regular kiss cart. You want to saturate the ceramic well to get good results. At battery power 3.7 the donut produces good taste and invincible vapor. U see little vapor upon exhale. With the core at 4.2-4.4v you get better clouds and taste is still good. Don't expect hercules sr clouds....

k, I'm sold. I am using the below vape until the 8 becomes available.

Is my pen 510 with an outer EGO cone thread? Along with the 1701 donut, should I order the Uptech globe as 510 EGO or 510 MOD?

Also want to try the Uptech KISS Gr2 Ti Cart - should I order as O-PHOS or Omicron/Persei thread? Those are the only two options.

I believe you need to order the 510 EGO style to fit your battery. For the gr2 cart I believe u need to order the ophos style one. It has a skirt to cover the outer threads

I created this little table for reference:

There is no such thing as a 7.4v black rod. I calculated the SR-74 white rod resistance from Gs comment that it would be about 30W.

Hey guys,

I just got my sr71 and ohm meter from w9. Referring to the chart above, I can't seem to get my sr71 to read at ~1.5 ohms. Mine is reading at 2.5 but the ohm meter starts at 1 even when I don't have anything plugged in. Should I subtract the 1 or do all ohm meters read like this? This is obviously my first ohm meter ever so please excuse the ignorance. It reads pretty consistently between 2.1 - 2.5 no matter how many times I take it apart and reassemble.

I'm just trying to be extra vigilant here and not fry anything..

Any help would be appreciated!
