Severe Coughing Problems lately

Ok some of you may know me as the fc member that recently has nodules removed from my vocal cords.

This is what I do know - vaping is way better than smoking but the vapor is very drying on the throat. That's why I have turned the cheap bubbler thread upside in search of something with more filtration and diffusion. My throat is not healing well and coughing is a major bad thing for my recovery. I am going to speech therapy that will hopefully teach me how to speak using more of my lungs than pounding my vocal cords together

I have read everything from lowering the temp on the device to drinking something while vaping. I have been on a t-break since the beginning of September and can't really resume anything for at least another 3 weeks.

My advice to anyone with major throat irritation is to use a water tool, use very little at a lower temp. Vapes like my pax are over; they are just not good for me ever. I don't live in a legal state and I'm just not that confident about cooking with May AVB (or even fresh)

I am devoted to my exhale but the side circ did not give me the smooth hits I need.

I am afraid that my voice will never be the same and will not be able to resume my weekend fun. It's the only thing I do. And I am also a runner; I find that although I hate I do breath easier afterwards.

So I don't know any correct answer; just that it is very drying on the throat

Vaping through very warm, almost hot water adds a lot of moisturizing while allowing your lungs to work a bit easier. I can't emphasize enough that very warm water helps tremendously, at least for me as well as for many, many others.

- Sip water between hits.
- Reduce vapor temp with water pipe filled with ice water.
- Save room in lungs for a breath of fresh air at the end of each hit.

Make sure you practice diaphragmatic breathing to cycle stale trapped vapor out of your lungs.

Coughing is not normal. Depending on how potent and how dry/wet the nugs are, the density of vapor will change. Like an air/fuel ratio in a car, in real time you control this with how fast you draw and the temp. setting of the vaporizer. Drawing faster actually cools down the glass, causing the vapor to be less dense. If you get too much vapor in a hit or have damaged/irritated lungs, you will cough. Mix in some air at the end of each hit, or/and draw faster, and use a water pipe.

I have asthma and vape everyday. I never cough unless I am dehydrated. I take big milky hits on the maximum temperature setting on my Arizer solo.

I can literally feel an equally massive difference between:
- not using a water pipe at all
- using a water pipe with room temp water
- using a water pipe with ice cold water

Repeatedly breathing in super hot air without proper hydration literally dries your airways and causes irritation/wheezing/etc. When I use a PNWT with ice cold water, it is seriously like 30% smoother without any irritation feeling.

Im afraid I'm never going to be able enjoy my 40 yr old friend again.

It's not the breaks I mind it's the forever.

Nytron if/when I ever do try can I find you to help me thru? I've developed a little gang of followers who have been so helpful with advice and I heed all of it

This is why I love the site; there are some really caring people out there that just want to help others out

That seems redundant as the air is heated by the vaporizer by default. So that warm water is not radically changing the vapor temp. Unless there is a steam effect. Breathing steam would add moisture to airways and can alleviate airway irritation in some people (in others it exacerbates problem). But the idea is not to get airway irritation in the first place, via being well hydrated and cooling the vapor. So I think your warm water theory is plausible and could actually work if you already have airway irritation.

I know for a fact that hot air irritates my airways. I can literally feel it and hear it. If I do like 6 back to back bowls of mids on the highest temp. setting with a PVHEGong Turbo coarse screen, I will probably have a bit of a wheeze on the end of my breath. I feel like I could do an infinite amount of bowls with a chilled water tool and not have any airway/lung irritation. YMMV.

Yep, I made the distinction that it only works for some people. YMMV as always.

Good stuff. I will have to try vaping while sipping a hot cup of cocoa between hits.

10X for warm water.
For smoke (combusting) cold water makes perfect sense as it starts out hundreds of degrees hotter than vaping. Too hot air and too dry air irritate the throat and lungs. Direct vaping vapor (no water piece) isn't that hot, even from a 2" mouthpiece, but it is very very dry. I inhale under my tongue and it gets totally dry on a big hit.

Add a quality water bubbler with room temp water and it is better, like neutral or 0 rating. Add very hot water to the bubbler and the vapor actually feels like it is helping moisturize / sooth the throat and lungs, like it's a +3 rating.
Hot water moisturizes air much better than cold water so I feel cold water is going the wrong direction for vaping. Lack of moisture is the biggest culprit so TRY hot water for throat relief.

While I totally like very warm, almost hot water, I suggest that people be VERY careful with "very very" hot water. One time I microwaved some water and put it in my bong and it was wayy too hot. My lungs went like..............WTF !!!! :o VERY hot vapor could actually singe your lungs so I suggest water no hotter than you would get out of your tap.

I'm never gonna remember all this. I'm gonna be so nervous I'm just wondering how I will actually do it. I think the speech therapy will give me more confidence. I know that if I take it slow and carefully I will be able to do this. And the warm water makes sense; just like tea and soup are soothing. But how does it cool the vapor for throat irritation? I feel like such an idiot

I use boiling water in my recycler. It's so worth it.
Warm just never hit the spot for me, and cold water is terrible to vape through.

Ok I'm still doing that. I drink tea every night. I inhale the steam and it does feel good. You just cracked me up lol so you both seem to like warm

I need so much hand holding. I've lost so much confidence in the last yr. this last voice thing was a killer. I feel like you aren't meeting the real me; and with no voice it's a killer

And the jets suck tonite so there you go

I just got a special electric teapot where you dial in the exact temp you want. I'll be experimenting with that. You can dial in 205 F for black tea and lower for green tea.

I've had one of those for about 3 years. Love it.

I actually got one of these (microwavable heating plate) to keep the water in my bong at the right temp:

This team reminds me of the saints sometimes.

The vapor is so drying. I drink over 10 glasses of water a day. I couldn't even speak to my daughter really on the fone. And she's a prosecutor so really what am I gonna say "feel bad for mommie. I haven't been able to do anything for so long."

I told her that when I was an ADA way way back when, I took all the pot cases from all the other ADAs and dismissed them. That's when I still had a voice and could be heard in a courtroom. So last century.

Blocked FG? Is that the first one this yr? Hate this Pats team. Ready for Drew this weekend. My husband and son are demoralized. They are also Mets fan? How you think their voices sound?

Hey guys,

Lately, I've been experiencing a lot of chest tightness and coughing with vaping, especially when I work out or try to sleep. I start coughing, almost uncontrollably. Usually I'm coughing up a lot of mucus as well. When I'm lying down and breathing, it just sounds awful. Like a pipe organ.

I've been messing around with a lot of different vapes and water filtration setups, but it doesn't seem to be helping.

Anyone else experience this and been able to work it out? It's starting to make me quite concerned.

Hey! Mucus is a bad sign! I'm no doctor but as a concerned friend... please do get yourself checked out. Life is too short to not check up on something when the signs are there. Be safe :)
