Arizer Solo

I completely disagree. I own an Herbalizer, and I still use and love my Solo too. I also own an Iolite, a Magic Flight Launch Box, and a Dr. Dabber pen. They all have their uses in my life, and I use most all of them daily.

I hear that! By no means am I bashing the Solo as I also have a similar rotation of devices for what suits the day. Personally, the Solo is too big to fit into my lifestyle.

All the best technology in the world (Apple, Canon, Samsung etc.) Have one design element in common... Practicality. And for a PORTABLE vaporizer... smaller, more compact = more efficient and practical.

Just my 2 cents! :) Vape on <3

Did you review a new unit?
I have the old SOLO and love it!

A vaporizer is so we can extract the medical properties of the cannabis.

I think it's safe to say the overwhelming majority of posters here like the Solo WRT taste and ease of use? And that is a very large number of folks, this is a very popular thread. It's not realistic to expect 100% positive, of course. Especially given the very large number of Solos sold. Some (few) are sure to not agree with the majority. Taste is, unfortunately, pretty subjective and hard to correlate.

And for sure way way more guys comment 'it's smaller than I expected' than the other way around. That too is somewhat subjective I think.

I'm not sure new/old has very much to do with that, and for sure I can't see how the changes impact taste. The problem, once again, is it's a matter of subjective opinion, not objective facts. Any individual's opinion of taste is at best a guideline.

Personally, while I have no objections to Solo's taste, I agree it's no Cera LL..........

Above all, I don't think potential buyers should be 'scared off' by negative reports with no further qualifications, the odds are very much in favor of your liking Solo as opposed to not I think. Those interested should get one and decide for themselves......

Above all, you should enjoy the vape you use, or continue looking for a better one.

For taste I like the all Glass BENDER however not a driver to bring away from the home.
The solo is like a cordless tool you can use around the house.
To vaperize in public I won't do.

I have to say im disagree with the people who thinks the SOLO is not a good driver...since i bought im completly satisfied! i found in SOLO the best tool to vaporize outdoors or just at home! Right now im at the PARK and im happy to have this amazing tool, i didn't take my WT to the PARK but just the SOLO works amazing !!

P.d: maybe this people who doesn't like the solo are not using good medicine? The taste and the flavor with correct and fine MJ is incredible and the huges clouds you can make are fabulous!!

Indeed most poeple seem to have a positive taste experience. But there are a few that are having the exact same experience as me, again leading me to believe that neither of us have faulty senses but in fact the units have a inconsistancy, possibly rare, possibly a certain batch.

As I inspected mine after this discussion, I found the smell/taste to be a sweet metalic flavor/smell - similar to a battery smell. As I sniff closer to the unit it become quite apperant just radiaiting from the unit. With the twist-on top off its even stronger. The twisty top smelled really strong so I soaked it in alchohol, working great. But the main unit underneath still smells strongly of this displeasurable flavor. And again, I taste it in 3 other friend's units, all from the same era.

Bummer. I hope this is helpful info to anyone else that had the same experience. Good luck!

Edit- just a random thought - The smell is stronger on the battery end. Could it be possible that some kind of faulty battery is creating a smell that is contributing to a taste? And this smell is actually resonating the top of the unit? Just a thought... For the sake of problem solving potentially, Im gonna take this puppy apart and give ALL of it a cleaning. Im pretty handy with soldering iron if need be...

Excellent point, I'd forgotten Bender, thanks for the reminder. It can be on par with Cera LL IMO. However, it's a weed hog, at least for me. It takes a half a gram or more to load it up enough to get useful vapor and by the time I get that huge load into full production I've had all the dose I planned for. I'm kind of a lightweight I know, but half a gram is a typical day's ration, not a single session.

For guys with 'bigger appetites' it might be a better match.

But there are a few that are having the exact same experience as me, again leading me to believe that neither of us have faulty senses but in fact the units have a inconsistancy, possibly rare, possibly a certain batch.

I guess anything is possible (as they say) but several of us have many Solos across a long time period (including the 'new and old models') with no such extreme taste issues. And we have at least one Member reporting 'every one of the 6 or 7 I've tried was bunk'. Statistically such 'distribution' can't happen. All the good ones don't go to one guy, and the bad ones to the next. Even with Murphy working overtime.

I remain convinced it comes down to judges not in agreement. That is we could send the exact same unit to one guy and get 'this is great, just like all my other experience' and from the other 'this one sucks, too'.

I could well be wrong, but that's how I see it. Individual opinions, based on individual experiences? Solos, I think, are pretty uniform.

Ok, so I figured, rather than discuss it anymore, id try to achieve the positive results. So, I took it apart and examined (smelled) each piece.

The metal casing was unquestionably the worst part of all of it. Really strong smell. Everything else a bit more faint. I tried using alcohol on the metal case, but the smell returned. So I used hot water and dawn. Boom, smellls like nothing.

So I proceeded to (battery detached, heating element detached) rub a little dawn with my fingertip in each part carefully, then a little water, and a quick dry with a microfiber towel. Everything but the circuit board. Finally a blow dry on the heater/top and back together.

First draw (with a clean PVES adapter to a dhgate pinnicale hydrotube)... Hmmmmm..

Second draw. Damn, not bad. Third. Hmmmmm.

Conclusion so far: Perhaps a significant amount of the displeasure was stemming from a manufacturing residue on the metal part of the unit. After heating enough times (used alot for a year) the whole unit smelled like it. Wash the sucker off and it tastes better then it ever did. Im not ready to jump on the fan wagon just yet, but ill use it a few more times and see how I feel. Either way, unquestionably improved. Maybe this only happened on the first runs of 107

Completely agree OF! Opinions are like ... well... we all know what opinions are like :brow:

Not long ago I got my Solo and did 3 level 7 burn-offs in a row at 12 minutes a piece based on some suggestions I read here. During the first burn-off the 'new gadget smell and general metallic smell' was unmistakably there. By the time the 3rd burn-off completed the smell was barely noticeable so I let it cool off and did one more level 7 test with some of the flowers sent as part of the package. I allowed it to run a few minutes and then draw to see if there would be a taste affect. I couldn't taste anything 'off' and I had to really strain to pick up the 'gadget smell'. It's been less than 2 weeks and the smell is completely gone now.

Prior to getting the Solo all I had was an MFLB. Coming from the MFLB to the Solo as the basis for my 'opinion' ... The Solo should be nominated as the greatest invention since fire. I still love the MFLB for outside endeavors but I'm sure my MFLB opinion might have been different if I started with the Solo and then went to the MFLB.

Still it's not impossible that Snidely's timing when acquiring the Solo wasn't ill fated. I remember buying a Gateway computer decades ago when they were considered tops. A week after I got it the announcement that the math co-processor in the Gateway P90 was flawed in a large number of units was made public. I got my new unit and all was well. Maybe Snidely just had bad luck in timing.

Dose it work to hold your stems in now?
yes!but half is no showing in the insideon one side?Another question i was tring to make a DIY PVHES stem and was just finished, went to grind a spot and got this tiny hole in it.It's smaller then looks in this pic! Will it effect the air flow?I put 4 slots around the bottom and two longer ones on the outside..

I have been using an EQ balloon mouthpiece on the Solo for a long time:

solo&otip.jpg

I used to use a screen, but the clogs were a pain. The other day after reading some posts on this forum, it dawned on me that the solution was to put the screen in the plastic tubing used to connect the Solo stem and the EQ balloon mouthpiece.
Works beautifully. With whole bud or grind. Easy draw!!

Bummer, but no, I don't think that's a fatal hole. As long as your pack isn't super tight. If it does I'd try a couple of turns of Teflon Plumber's tape (the thin white stuff with no adhesive). It's up to the temperature and a turn or two should seal it up well for a long time. I have such a piece on the carb hole in my PVHES GonG stem, which has a larger hole of course, it does just fine.

Next time you do this you should consider an odd number of grooves (or at least offset the two), I'm thinking otherwise you'll get different results when they line up 'facing you' as opposed to crosswise? I found a difference when I was messing with notching the aftermarket o-ring.

Anyway, nice job, serious notches. Let's hope you don't have to abandon your good work over such a minor oops.

Good luck.

Okay, so I purchased a used Arizer Solo from craigslist (so keep in mind its been broken in for about 8 months or so). I have to confirm this taste problem.

For me personally, the acrid and weirdly acidic flavor is definitely there and makes the session less enjoyable. The device is huge, and I really don't see how anyone could practically use this as a daily, and highly portable/pocketable device.

Bottom line, way too big and the flavor is off. The FlowerMate V5.0s has a better battery life and I've had no flavor issues with it whatsoever (incredibly pure, actually). The price tag on the Arizer Solo is on the high end compared with so many awesome devices out right now. The Solo just doesn't live up to the market standards.

Gonna be say with my experience, the Arizer SOLO is an old, outdated product. It had its glory days two years ago but now theres just so many better valued options.
We are all entitled to our opinion. I strongly disagree. It's better made than a lot of the newer portables that I see coming on the market. Its better made than some of the portables that I currently own that have come out over the last year. It is rather large for a portable so that point I agree on.

The vapor taste in the Solo allows me to enjoy the true taste of the cannabis that I am using. It works very well paired with my D020 Bubbler. I use wax and herb combinations in the evening before bed. I use the higher temps to help me get ready for sleep. The wax/herb is very easy to clean afterwards while still warm. Just a Q-tip wipes out the bowl. We all have our own needs and the Solo fits my needs just fine. I have been very happy with the 3 Solos that I own and have no complaints. The first one I bought 16 months ago.

The Solo sells pretty fast in the classifieds on FC if you feel a need to sell yours. We are all just looking for a safe alternative to combusting. Vape on and Fuckcombustion.

A most useful product for glass repair.
I had an accident while cleaning my beloved Aroma-therapy dish gong conversion.
I thought it was a gonner as the whole side was cracked away.
But plumbers' tape came to the rescue.
I give you the new improved "mummy gong":

Badly in need of cleaning, but still in use.
The cracked part is held in place and seals it.
Useful vape info can always be found on this forum.
Thanks again.

That's cool! i was just thinking it was going to melt inside but I tried it and it is working but you know something now to much air getting in hard to get sucktion.I bought a brand new stem today ,stock solo and it was tough to get in even after warming up and when i got it in it would't move i got worried and of course when it was time to take out yes it broke! It was to big for the unit every other stem I had has been on loose side.Wasn't my fault in a way!

Edit:Thanks for the teflon tape tip I fixed all my stems and now I'm happy again....didn't want to spend any more money right now on more stems!
