Discontinued The Persei Vaporizer for herbs and concentrates.

I have been loitering around these Persei threads for some time now... and I REALLY want an upscale, knock my socks off vape, one powerful enough to retire my dab rig- and I keep coming back to the 8.

But after reading hundreds of posts, I keep being put off by all the mods, rebuilds, and adjustments required by the customer just to get these pens and cartridges operating as they are intended.

@THC SCIENTIFIC ~ Do all the vapes and carts you sell require adjustments, rebuilds and mods; or do any simply work out of the box with no fucking with? Is there a fee to have you tune it so that it functions well before it ships?
Everything from w9 works great out of the box. The only iSsue is minor 8 vaporizer bumps on the road. It is a new design, so a few mass production issues can emerge. Once these issues are solved you can more than likely expect the 8 to be king!

I tried my new kiss globe + 1701 + persei last night... seemed ok, only on a totally full battery was I able to get anything resembling vapor visually. It seems to make the oil melt and dissappear so maybe it's good at making invisible vapor? I dunno it was hard to tell I was already pretty medicated from kiss cart hehe.... seem to get a lot of misfires on the kiss globe + persei, like 1/3 of the time I get 3 blinks on the 1701 and maybe 1/4 of the time I get blinks with a regular NiCh coil what's up with that?

I've been playing with my persei Hercules SR 74 combo for about two months now and I can't seem to get it going right. No matter what I do I end up with a bunch of oil up in the top screen and in the bottom chamber. I squished the coil which helps it stay in place. Nonetheless the top screen ends up clogged with almost every use and the bottom chamber needs to be cleaned out after about three uses. I do my cooling down pulls. I try not to pull too hard, but consistently enough to keep the oil from going into the bottom chamber. But I just can't seem to attain the Nirvana where the oil stays in the coil. Now in the midst of my latest cleaning my Nibler rolled off the table and shattered 130 bucks down the drain. I've spoken to Gary on the phone he is a real standup guy and has tried his best to help me I guess but I can't seem to get the hang of this. Just way too complicated for me I guess I'll be doing my shatter the old-fashioned way

You'll need to purchase the coil separately, but it's still a great deal.
That is where I got it. I keep toying with buying 2nd! I can't handle the thought of it breaking or loosing a key piece now!

After a week of learning how to use it I can get perfect consistent hits with this process:
1. Hold button for 1-2 seconds to warm it up then let go
2. Press and Hold button for 5-7 seconds while drawing slow and steady
3. Let go of button and continue to draw slowly and steady for another 5-10 seconds.
4. Blow out the huge vapor hit
5. Cough
6. Mind Blown
7. Cough again
8. Take another couple 5 second cooldown hits slow and steady to solidify the wax
9. Allow unit to cool for about 30 seconds
10. Rinse and repeat!

EDIT: Wow I totally missed the Persei sale by a few days! What a great deal at $130!

I cant say for certain why you are getting shafted on your herc, but i can suggest some things that may not be recommended. Vapor production was weak when i just let the spring loaded pin do its job, so my solution was to CAREFULLY keep adjusting the ceramic rod so it would compress the spring completely and make a solid connection. The first time i pulled my ti screen out, it unraveled about 60%, so i had to resquish/reshape, and it not only stays better, but it really keeps the oil from drippin down, almost like a bowl. Last but not least i tightened the retainer nut as tight as i could holding it with some needle nose and always close the holes with the little gold ring in there. If its being stubborn ill hold it completely horizontal and roll it around while holding the button for 15-30 and that usually kickstarts the thng.

Hope im not just repeating crap youve heard and tried already. Good luck.

How much are you loading when you get these type of negative results? It sounds like there is either way too much oil in the herc or it hasn't saturated the coil well enough....??
It could be because your SR-74 is overloaded and therefore is requiring a lot more heat to produce vapor which in turn would require a much longer cool down period in between uses. Try doing a much longer cool down period next time you use the herc and see if you get different results.
HOPE THIS HELPS!

I was patiently waiting for the sr74 to come back in stock but with the persei itself going on sale now, I think I might have to try the sr71 instead. I've heard great things about the sr71 but I just wanted to opt for the "beginner friendlier" sr74. As a first-time persei user, I hope the sr71 won't be too hard to figure out with the help of some youtube assembly videos of course.

When you're referring to the oil coils, you mean these, yes?

Thank you very much to everyone who commented.

@sethhobrin thank you for the timeline. How much are you loading?

@thegoo I usually toss in a chunk up to the start of the threads in my sr74. I don't melt it in. Not sure how much that is maybe .5

@bdmonkeyj3w do you line up the star washer to cover the holes? I didn't realize that was important.

Quite the learning process, And every bit of info helps! Thanks again for the help everyone

Thanks! Definitely worth it for me to spring for the healthier alternative.

In the end, I opted for the persei, sr71, some 1600 MAH 18650's, the ti coil you recommended here, and the core. With the sales going on for the core and persei and the coupon codes, I just couldn't resist anymore!

Nibbler is definitely on the wish list since it's OOS :(

This was pretty much exactly my experience. However, I have a core and so was able to dial up to 4.2v for better visible vapor production. I also experienced the 3 blink nofire situation running off the core.

Anybody know if the Herc on other websites are real? uptech has been out since July, and i am getting kind of annoyed with the okeanos because the kiss cart keeps on leaking everywhere and its barley been two weeks.

Im glad to be of service.
Just a tip. If you want to try something that may work better for you.....try putting in half of what your adding to the herc. (around .25 or less) In my opinion it is better to have a smaller amount then to be full especially while you are getting the hang of it. Once you really get used to the Herc you can play around with fill levels. (when you have too much oil in the herc all you end up doing is cooking it and burning off the terpenes)
Another thing to try...when you add that chunk of oil, make sure to lightly pulse the button in 1-2 second intervals and allow the oil to properly soak into the coil. As you are pulsing the heat and saturating the coil, i like to give a cigar style test puff here and there until it produces the first sign of vapor and then i stop.
You should notice much better results with these two things i mentioned above. They have worked wonders for me.

Edit: @slvelocity I just picked up the Herc for the first time two months ago and I was very nervous about being able to put it together properly, not lose any pieces etc. When I received my SR-71, I took it apart and put it back together 10x. By the time i was done, I knew the Herc inside and out and assembly has been EASY!!!

I got rid of my screen almost immediately and it eliminated the clogging problem. Slow and light draws work best. As for getting oil in the bottom chamber, it's usually a matter of needing to do longer cooling draws after each hit. Good luck!

@kindbeats So am I supposed to be allowing the oil to cool completely between hits? I guess the idea is to hold the button as little as necessary, and then do cooling draws until the oil resolidify's? As @thegoo mentioned I Think I may have been over cooking.

Quite my position too, exept I ordered just before the special kicked in :(, but I guess you cant stack the sale price with the other 20% discount.

With the fc community, and Gary, I feel confident I will get it to work perfectly. I went through 200 pages in the tread, but I barely remember anything haha! I remember the checklist @sethhobrin just wrote a few posts above plus its better to do everything horizontal.

Cant wait to give it a try!

...and always close the holes with the little gold ring in there.

You're closing the air holes in the Herc with the AAF washer?!?!? :o I would recommend NOT doing that! How do you expect to get any air flow?

I like the Herc air flow as is with the 3 holes wide open (so I don't even install the AAF washer). I'm curious tho, does any longtime Herc user here actually use the AAF washer to partially restrict air flow?

SR74's should be available mid next month.
I'm on the waiting list to get a replacement sr71 bottom adapter from you because of the issues with the sr74 adapter on the 8. I was planning on getting a nibbler xl when theyre back in stock, but I was wondering if it would work with the sr71 adapter you are provinding?

I've been using it with the holes covered since I got it and I like to think that I get good airflow...maybe it's just me?

@starchild
yeah it doesnt stay over the holes for certain, mine gets rattled around alot so the washer isnt always where i left it positioned. Other than that, i notice no difference in airflow. In fact, for the 3.7 herc, it may have too much airflow and it seems to cool off the coil and ruin the hit if you impatiently suck at it before it hits critical temp. that, in turn, keeps the oil just viscous enough to dive into the lower chamber and leaves an unhappy user. Ive given it to enough impatient friends and relatives to believe that is the cause 99% of the time. the other 1% is split between lack of oil or lack of battery power.

Edit @Hedonismbot I completely cover, the washer isnt even tight or secure unless theres a glob of oil on it. no restriction in airflow really, just thicker clouds. with a nibbler the difference is quantifiable as you can watch the vapor rate.
