Alfa Vaporizer by goboof

Volute of Vapor
Sorry for the back to back post but this is my full review now: WOW!!!

The packaging is nice, it comes with a charger, 3 pipes wipes, 3 toothpicks, 3 screens, a replacement mouthpiece and a quick userguide(unit was already 50% charged).

The size of the Alfa is smaller than I thought, my 05 seems a bit big inside, dimensions are 4.7cm X 8.7cm x 1.9cm (without the mp) and it fit in my palm better than others vapes I own.
I like the design with the selective button, the body is made of plastic and make me worry at first...only!

The bowl is on the bottom of the unit àla Pax, the lid is a bit awkward to close but it can't open in your pocket itself.

About performances now, I packed it after a quick burnoff since I can't detect any bad smell, there is a hole in the bottom of the bowl for the vaporpath so I choosed to put here a little piece of bud (not grinded) to prevent to clog it and added a bit of grounded flower for a total of 0.12g not really tight packed.
I turned it on (mid level) and after a really quick heating time (comparable to the 05) the green light stop blinking to tell me the t° is reached, taste is decent, I feel the flower specificity, clouds are here (not the bigger but enough for a portable) and effect are strong, I finish the session at max level where the vapor is a bit harsh but cloudier).
I tested too the automatic mode heating by puff and it will be one of my favourites way to vape on the go, I'll test the other automatic mode soon.
It becomes very warm in your hand but not too much

Abv comes out fully vaped but not really dark, my 05 or imag plus gave my a darker abv

I can't speak about the battery since I only done 3 sessions of 15mn with it.

pro:
- size
- design
- automatic features
- heating time
- can be used while charging
- efficiency, it kick my ass!
- decent taste for a conduction vape
- vaporize ungrounded flowers very well

cons:
- bowl door seems easily breakable
- load/unload is a bit awkward
- mp don't fit any 18 or 14 mm joint, i use a 14mm straight dome to connect it to my WT
- stem could be clogged if you grind too fine, maybe a screen with a hole in the center for the heating pin could help...
- I think it needs a lot of cleaning, especially the stem between the bowl and the mp
- there is a dead zone on the top of the bowl (fresh air entrance)

It looks like this unit get is place, the alfa is the stealthier unit I have for flowers, it miss only the convenience of use of the capsules of my 05, but it's a great unit for a stealth/tasty/efficient purpose, automatic features are really amazing!
Price is really interesting, I think you need to find a way to test this little bad boy, Pax fans will be amazed and the others too!

i have to agree with my bro PPN in just everything!
His review sums up my experience with the Alfa very well, too.

watch out pax and indica, here comes your strongest rival. it's smaller, it's cheaper, it's stealthy and it's not made in china... the main four reasons why I think the Alfa will find his place in the market, quickly.
it gives me nice cloudy, smooth, tasty and long lasting vapor on 190°C already. Only switched to 210°C in the end to finish. A manual is not included, just a quick start guide, however there are no information about the automatic settings and so I still don't know what these features do exactly (will find out later today, though!)

the vapor can get a little hot if you draw too fast, but that's the case with almost every vaporizer.

btw @Severmore don't worry buddy the airpath is sealed! Yes, Its next to the charger port, but they don't overlap in any way.

Like the Pax, the Alfa will require a lot of cleaning. Had some visible and sticky resin in the chamber after the first use already and also some crumbs got stuck in the airpath.
The Lid of the herb chamber is my biggest concern, too. It's a bit complicated to close, especially if you have packed the herb chamber very tight. Also my wheel is a bit loose.

heating time is very short! Takes about 30 seconds to reach the 230°C only. Although I'm not sure why anyone should need this setting, since I would not recommend using wax in the Alfa.
A initial burn off session wasn't really necessary, since it had a very neutral smell/taste from the beginning.

the small herb chamber is really nice too. Personally, I rather use 4 x 0,1g of herbs than once 0,4g

overall, i like it a lot. definitely my favorite amongst these three (alfa, pax and the indica)

There is 2 automatic mode:

heating by puff: increase temperature of 3°C/ each puff
heating by time: increase t° of x°C/mn (I don't remenber how much....)

My wheel is a bit loose too...

Higher temp level don't make your herbs black!

Thanks @PPN and @mrweed ! This one officially has my interest now with your glowing reviews. The thing holding me back is the temps, since they're the same as the Imag Plus, meaning the top temp is wasted on me, and even the middle temp is a little high for me. I'd much prefer like 360, 380, 400 as temp settings if 3 is the limit, but auto puff does sound pretty neat...

Can we get an photos/size comparisons? I was imagining it like a FlowerMate, but if its smaller than the Pax and Indica I think I have to see it to really get a feel for it

Great review guys. I do have two questions though.

Does it need to be full to produce good vapor, can you use small loads and get good results?

Also, does the bud need to be packed in or can it be loosely filled and still get good results.

the alfa is a bit longer than the indica, but also a bit thinner and less wide.
the overall volume of the alfa is the smallest of the three units, but the difference is very little
it's a bit lighter than the indica, though and the plastic parts of the alfa are not as cheap as those from the indica

I never felt like the Indica had any cheap plastic. The black parts feel pretty high quality to me.

Does the Alfa get warm in use? With back to back sessions? Any word on battery life yet? And also, smell? I imagine it would be smelling worse if its already getting gunky and cleaning will need to be regular

@Shit Snacks well, my indica even emitted a plastic smell at the beginning. thank good it was not in the airpath, though! also the visible fissure is ugly, imho.

yes, it does get warm. especially on the highest setting!

can't say anything about battery life so far, haven't had to charge it yet

Yeah I can appreciate the sentiment on the fissure, especially if its uneven, but any big flaws or persistent off smells/tastes are worth talking to Mike about a potentially faulty unit.

The fact that the Alfa came out of the box smelling and tasting clean is pretty great though, ideally all vaporizers would come this way (my original Indica from the first production batch in April was like this). Unfortunately, aside from my Thermovape and Elevape, all my other brand new vapes came with some sort of initial smell (and ofcourse some had smells that never left! so they are gone as well)

To be honest I'm sitting here breathing air that's being blown out of my laptop with a fan so a plug or jack or wires in the air path of a vape doesn't cause me much concern.

Well if I follow you reasoning, we're all breathing dinosaur farts, but that's not a reason to make me want to put my nose in your ass! Yes air is coming from my laptop fan too but we're talking about deeply inhaling stuff, in a chronic way, it's quite different.

That's the answer I wanted to hear, thank you. Sorry for nitpicking, but this is FC and we all vape because it's supposedly safer for our health, and most of us are concerned about device internals and we want to know what we are putting in our bodies.

The Firewood is the only vape I got so far that also had strictly no smell out of the box. No funky electronics shit, no foul silicone or what not. Before, during and after use. It's the proof that it's perfecly possible and I agree that it should be the norm, not the exception.

Oh Yeah, Sure it is. In your mind, but not mine. But it's all good !

well maybe it's paranoia caused by weed... ;) but I'm someone who can't enjoy a vape, when I have the feeling that I could poison myself, while using it. The main reasons why I hate on the Titans for example btw. Nobody knows what happens with your lungs when you're inhaling plastic fume over a very long time, without recognizing. Especially the manufacturers don't, since they simply don't do any research.
So maybe people are happy with their chinese piece of shit... for now.

We have very strict regulations here in europe, so I'm feeling much more comfortable with a vaporizer made here, than in china. True story: my country doesn't allow the vaporblunt 2.0 here. Custom control inspected it and have sent it back to the us, because they identified it as "dangerous" in a labor. Until today I don't know what this means exactly, but they will have had their reasons to believe it's dangerous.

Hello fc!
Been back to bad smoking land for a while, and gave my ascent to a friend. Now I'm looking for a new portable and this one caught my attention.
I was hoping that some good alternatives for the ascent would be there in the meantime, but actually not much really happend the past months eh.
The other one I'm taking into consideration is the current inhalater, but it would be much pricier with the hefty shipping, so could anyone - @PPN owns both I guess :) - compare these two in terms of efficiency, clouds, bang? Much thanks!

Hi Osn Dosn, I don't like to compare units but the Alfa wins in term of stealth, in the others aspects the 05 is superior (and more expensive!) 05 taste is better on low temp and it produces more clouds with higher temperatures.

The Alfa is a true on the go device and automatic modes are awesome, taste is not the better but far away to be the worst too and clouds are enough big to stay stealth outside but it never becomes too harsh like the 05 can be at high temp, so you don't need any WT.

I'm in love with my 05 but I'm convince I can find lot of job for the Alfa!

Does the charging light turn from red to green upon full charge? Just curious as my new Alfa has shown solid red now for about two hours on the charger.

Thanks!

Yes the light must to turn green for a full charge, I think my first charging time was 5-6 hours if I remenber correctly!

Great Scott!
So whats the consensus on the air path and materials used? I've been following closely. We all know I'm mr picky.

I heard the air path was clean and sealed off, anyone know where that info is coming from? I'd love to see one taken apart.

Anyone see how it is held together? Easy to take apart?

Greetings FC People,

I have tried to take a photo that illustrates the air path and how it is sealed. It directly connects the oven to the mouthpiece and It looks like the air path is made of a polished metal tube, either stainless steel or aluminum like the rest of the vaporizer. I do not see a need to take the unit apart because you can see and clean the entire path from the oven to the mouthpiece. I will try to find out the material of the pathway. I recommended a screen in the oven that Goboof offers, just to minimize the time spent cleaning.
