Best type of nail?

Radio

I want an all-purpose nail and mini blowtorch for special occasions where I come across oil, wax or nice hash.
I'd like to just be able to put it into my vapecycler so it'll have to be an 18mm male.
I had a look around but struggled a little bit, so if someone can point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it.
Wondering what material is best. Titanium, ceramic, etc.. Which is generally considered top of the fucking line?
Also will I need to worry about the blowtorch melting my glass pipe at all, or is it easy enough to keep the flame directly on the nail and not damage my precious recycler?
Any tips for newbies, or a link to a thread with that type of info would be much appreciated!

Quartz banger is my preference:

Quick heat up, lot of surface area, and great taste. No need for a dome and it's easily carb capped with any non-flammable flat surface. Also with this type of nail it's possible to just drop a dab in cold and heat the bottom, a la crack pipe style, for some nice low temp dabs and no waiting for it to cool down.

Dude, that's perfect. It's something I'm familiar with and doesn't have multiple parts.. I could really just use a standard cigarette lighter as well? Is Quartz Banger their real name? If so i'll get searching on ebay for a nice one, or are there any reknown and reliable brands that make exceptional ones?

does this site have correct info on why quartz is better than titanium?

Would love to see a top of the line domed quartz nail and work my way down from there based on it's price

not too sure about the name, the guy who invented them (Quave I believe) calls his a "banger", but I don't think there's really a standard term for them.

you could probably use a cig lighter if you add the dab cold, but just buy a torch. they burn way cleaner and you can get a decent one for under $20.

that website sucks. there's a lot of speculation and they have a serious incentive to be biased: they sell quartz.

I bought mine from here: http://www.thickassglass.com/collections/quartz-nails/products/3-quartz-domeless-nail-cup

only had it for a month, but it's held up pretty well.

Nice variety at that site, thanks. I'll have a browse.
And I'll also go through the Pocket Size Torch Lighters thread for something nice under $20!

Does anyone recommend getting a glass adapter to separate the recycler & the nail? I don't want my piece to get damaged by the heat. I like the look of this one which is a good price

an adapter is prob unnecessary. even when you heat the quartz red hot the joint stays fairly cool; it's uncomfortable to touch, but it's not burning hot.

$15 seems a tad cheap even for the eBay knockoff banger nails I've seen. Beware, some people market boro as quartz. Big difference since boro will deform and start to melt at temps reached by your average torch.

Not saying these aren't legitimate but buyer beware.

Honestly if you want a no hassle one time purchase nail I'd go titanium. If you don't use it that much you probably won't appreciate the minute flavor differences anyway. Yes quartz tastes better, but the trade off is that you can easily see when the nail is hot/cool enough to properly dab with ti, and it'll never break unlike a piece of glass.

Respect, man. Thanks for pointing that out.
The purchase wasn't successful so it may have been for the best! I like the style of the quartz bangers though, so if theres a retailer that make great ones post it here :)

I amended my post. See the edit below what you quoted. Just something to consider.

Thanks Cali, you always come through with the solid information.
Considering the fuck-around of trying to find a decent quartz banger and it's potential risks (as well as those that come with ceramic nails.. so fragile) it looks like the Titanium nail market is booming and there are plenty of good options out there.
I'm assuming there are plenty of good ones in the $20-$50 range?

I've also ordered this one: Butane Torch
and on a slight related/unrelated note.. i just ordered this also. Happy daddy bowl buddy

keen to pick up a nail (domed would be nice) and an adapter and i'll be in business! Time to start making my own oil/wax and see what all the fuss of dabbing is about first-hand!

Here's a link to some quartz bangers. These are pretty good. Mine has seen some hard miles and not broken yet. I have another that I got from ebay EE that isn't quite thick enough. It doesn't have enough mass to hold heat long enough and overcome oil cooling and air cooling. The one from GBS works great. Mine is 18mm male. Male is cleaner IMO because the reclaim runs into the joint on a female.

That one is good, reasonable price but Australian shipping adds $15. I may wait a bit until something slightly cheaper appears. Is titanium generally cheaper than Quartz also?

My Highly Educated DualTi nail and carb cap/dabber sells for about $120us on aqua lab. I got it from a member here on the classifieds.

Titanium is typically the more expensive option... except real club bangers. Those are made by Quave of MotherShip and sell for $160 each.

@Deja Vu just remember you have to buy the butane separately. ;)

Also FWIW, I have heard that those Green Buddha quarts nails are legitimate quartz.

Oh and dont forget a proper carb cap. Those make a huge difference. Doesnt really matter if its boro, quartz, titanium or ceramic. Just make sure its wide enough to fit OVER your nail.

Yes thankfully I can grab butane from the supermarket, and yeah I'm struggling to find a good glass/quartz one that ships to Australia for a reasonable price / comes from within Australia. It's just not happening, ive looked for over 2 hours.
Many options available for titanium and ceramic nails.. Getting a cheap titanium nail could be poisonous, no?

Make sure it's grade 2. Don't go super cheap. You'll be fine. Remember this is one of those things you will only need to buy one of for a good while, as long as you take care of it (don't get it wet, don't overheat it, etc).

Keep that in mind when weighing cost.

Yes absolutely, thanks Cali.
What do you think of this one? I'm aiming for something that provides a greater distance between my recycler and the top of the nail to prevent too much heat being applied to my glass.

Also these cheapies have some excellent length! I'm swaying towards these ones:

If anyone can vouch for one of them or give a suggestion I'm open :)

The one on the bottom link are meant for rigs with domes. Unless you have one of these (and even if you do) I suggest domeless like the one in the top link.

Word, thanks man. Thought it was too good to be true. I love the adjustable height of it, but i've ordered the top one (which doubles as a King Chess piece for some reason... as if I want to dab and then play a game of chess with my red-hot paraphernalia..)

just picked up these also. works out to be about $5 per can, free shipping!

I've got everything I need. Titanium nail, butane, torch, dabber tool.. Thank's FC for being hospitable to yet another one of my threads where I ask a copious amount of questions for my own selfish indulgence.

I love you all

The added mass helps absorb and buffer the heat. You can also get adapters called "drop downs". These are good because it gives you more distance between your face and the nail plus it catches reclaim which keeps your rig cleaner.

I have a fancy custom one ($55 USD) although you can get clear ones for about $30 USD.

Alternatively you can just get a glass reducer/adapter to sit between the nail and your joint.

No problem. Just ask if you have more questions! It took me a while to get where I am and Im still learning myself, but Ill help where I can.

As for the "dab mat":

http://www.amazon.com/Rhumen-Qualit...d_sim_k_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=1XA00JNT3M7Q5MWHF77H

These are the exact same ones marketed as "dab mats" to the MJ community.... at $15-$20 USD per mat. LOL. They rarely even offer colors outside what you see there, heh.

Damn, is that a good or a bad price? They look great to me. And yes same marketing garbage as 'Gaming mice, gaming mousepads, gaming keyboads'.. They are fucking mice, mousepads and keyboards. Stop trying to unnecessarily appeal to another market
