Gear Best Clearo for Pure Gold?

I think my experiment here is pretty much done until a better solution comes along - the sapphires I have taste horrible, burped or not. And my mPT3 leaks no matter what I try (even at room temp) I am using home made shatter diluted as little as possible with 20% ej mix...

@baltik, On the Sapphires I wonder why they taste SO bad for you. I can get a passable taste as long as I burp 'em and suck in some fresh juice now and then by blocking air with my finger (wrapping it around the junction of the Sapphire with the battery) and sucking. The first toke after that is very clean, and then one more small one. After that it's burp time. The liquid is around 0.5 ml EJM to 1 g wax, so it's not very thick, that helps.

Can you explain when and how your Protanks leak?
Are you willing not to carry it upright?
How viscous is your c-juice at room temp?
Mine is like PreGold, very thick, no EJM, the transfer in the photo takes about an hour if warming the vial, otherwise easily a couple hours. BTW, tape holds the vial on the glass tube and the bottom together with the tube, so you can fill from the top.

@baltik, I hope you know that no offense or criticism is intended. I'm just trying to understand the diffs since we have different experiences.
You know, on my Sapphires, the taste isn't ever all that great, but manageable; could our expectations just be THAT different?
On the Protanks, with thinned erls, I'd be expecting traces of liquid on the connector. The Sapphires have those wonderful silicone connector caps.

Worth it for the convenience ? unthinned erls on metal mesh pads in any of the good portable vaporizers, like a Solo or Firefly etc, IMHO are just better than any e-cig derivatives so far. But the setup time ...

Good question - my saphires were sourced from another forum member who got them from the manufacturer rather than gotvapes, but I do find that I am more sensitive to certain tastes than others...

on my mpt3 I am leaking well beyond trace amounts and while I certainly try to turn them upside down or cap them, it's the one time I don't and half the tank is gone...

@baltik, I've only used unthinned erl in my mPT2s, that's a big difference. Or glycerin nicotine vapes (but then who cares if a little seeps out).
For EJM-thinned waxes the sapphires hold it in ok if I use their little silicone 510 connector "covers".
I never have enough spare covers to try thinned concentrates in an mPT2, but from your experience it sounds like only using PGld or unthinned oils on the Protanks is best.

Fernand - are you saying you are using waxes/semi solids in your mpt2s? Still doesnt make much sesnse fiven my EJmix shateter is much thicker then the nicotine juice that the protanks were designed for

I've had no problems with the v3 coils from Kanger for the MPT3. I haven't been baby sitting it or anything. Works like a charm.

Shame I couldn't find the new ceramic wick coils. I just took the bite on the v3 and they turned out to be great.

Check what version of coil you are using. The v1 my tank came with *when it leaked* had larger holes leading to the coils. The airholes' size seems to matter as far as how much juice goes in *and maybe how much leaks*. Something to consider maybe?

Thanks for the input - so the atty you are using has a single oval hole on the side? where did you buy it and what resistance are you running?

The smaller holes is one reason why I prefer the mPT2 to the 3.

@baltik I'm using pure unthinned dark oils in my mPT2s. I have 5 different strains so far, including the one PureGold it all started with. And the Cuisinart-Brain Sativa from hell that I refuse to deal with. Maybe donate it to the Berkeley po'

Wet the wick with a drop of EJMix when new. That gets it primed so the oil can wick up the fibers. Fill from the top, just oil, no thinning, yeah thick motha erl. Store 'em on the side to prevent leaks, but keep oil in the "pit". So far so good. Barely pulse the button even on a 2.5 ohm coil - get it warmed up gradually, no burning allowed. As the vaporizer angels taught us: no need to see smoke when ya toke. 2 or 3 hits of barely visible vapor ... as the forum name says ... FC.
Time to mPT2 some of that Purple Kush Oil and retire ... tastes so flowery! And these dark oils (with astounding THC content) (and flavor) are very inexpensive in CA.

For waxes, I thin w/ 30% EJM, vape in a Sapphire. Always cap the 510 connector.

It's not a single hole. I see 4 holes in total. Although the two bottom holes look like they have a screen mesh of some kind.

These are very tiny pinholes. I think that's what does it.

The ebay seller I got them from called them v3 but the box makes no mention of that. It just has a list of all the Kanger items the coils fit to and the resistances.

Mine is 1.8 ohms.

The box also lists the sub-ohm coils. So I take it that they are fairly new since the sub-ohms were just announced a few months ago from what I remember.

I'll dig up a link.

This is the item listing I bought them from, despite it saying 1.5 ohm. I don't know why he put that when the box I got says 1.8 ohm.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/221515428614

Edit: He lists it under item specifics. Maybe he's hoping to get an unrelated search engine hit with the 1.5. lol.

@thisperson What are you using in your mPT3 w/ those cool heads?

Is it raw oil like mine, or thinned what (thinned with what, what %)?

Yeah I should mention that I stopped using thick oils. They are the best but I just stopped picking them up because they didn't flow well.

I get Liquid Gold. It doesn't say its watered down stuff. But it does flow well. Kinda like pure gold.

I'm moving away from the tank and pen. Despite the inconvenience of loading for each use I am liking exposed coils for "dabbing" more and more.

But for don't want to do shit but hit it situations you are better off with the ejuice tanks. I guess I will always resort to this if I am going some place where I really have to sneak and toke.

Yes, the PGld flows very well, no it's not thinned. But then again my other mPT2s with unthinned dark oil have performed very well too.

If I don't use one of the mPT2s for a couple of days, and the "oven" is full of erl from the last session, some oil may start to work slowly down into the 510 connector. I leave em on their side, and suck on 'em proactively to pull up any oil that's working down the 510 "pipe" before the little pinhead of gorgeous oil even shows at the tip/hole. In hot weather best to carry them upside down.

They all seem to flow at about the same rate, so they all show a tiny bead at about the same time. PGld is usually the first to "bead". Just gotta take a hit now and then, can't neglect one for days on end ;-) I'm working on a way to cap the 510 connector, the old cartomizer caps with the silicone "pin" may work.

I'm getting more confident, and so I think my next mPT2 build will be a premium sixty a g CO2 sour diesel clear yellow oil.

The Sapphires with thinned wax would easily leak except that they're capped. They can be carried any old way loose as long as I have the silicone cap on the 510 connector. That's a little godsend right there!

Hello all I am new here , but been lurking a while and I am very thankful for all the useful info on this thread and this site in general.. My Concentrate is my own using the QWET method to a T. Not winterized but has been filtered several times in the freezer .. I mixed .3ml ejmix to 1 gram oil . I've tried multiple clearos and they all didn't work for me , a few are the smokteck 510 cart which did nothing for me at all, Protank clone which did work initially pretty well but then leaked terribly and then after reading this thread I ordered a Aerotank MINI that came with the V2 head at 1.8ohm(4 pin holes, no wick exposed) and the 1.5ohm heads which I assume is the V3 with the 2 larger oval holes.. Over a week period the ATM worked initially and I thought to myself finally something is working and I don't have to use ethanol to get my goods back from a failed clearo, but within a day the 1.8ohm head stopped giving hardly any vapor , dry hits and I was adjusting between 3.3-3.7v. So I put in the 1.5ohm head and again worked great the first day but then again hardly any vapor after a day.. Ive tried adding more ejmix but it seems to dilute the potency or rather my clearo is just failing to vaporize enough to get me where I want to be .. i'm not sure .. I'm just about to give up after spending a lot of money on different products .. Sighhhh

So I decided to give the Sapphire a try since even though there are mixed reviews , sapphires at least are mentioned so much more than anything else as to at least work somewhat and you know that's at least better than not working at all and then having a mess on your hands .. So I Just ordered some sapphires and when I was on gotvapes I noticed the T-Dux 1.6s ( http://www.gotvapes.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=148_217_410&products_id=2595 ) I ordered one of these to with various replacement atomizers ... this at least to me seems like it might work better for me since wicking "seemed" to be my issue . Does anyone have any info on these or opinions on whether PG or slightly diluted concentrates will work with this? I ordered the ones with the 5mm slots since it says to use those for VG biased juices, i'm hoping they will work with a thick concentrate.

Thanks in advance , I know this thread is now slow moving

There are two extremes we have to steer between. Scylla and Charybdys if I remember my mythology. One is the dread dry hit and burn. The other is the leak. Both are mortal foes!

There is first of all the temperature and EJMix ratio to achieve your preferred viscosity. In some carts a 30% EJMix content works well. For the mini ProTanks I'm happiest with unthinned PGd or Oil by using the Grand Suck.

I manage the dry hit by gradual warming and applying (tada!) the Grand Suck. If I completely plug the little air holes on the mPT base with my fingers after pulsing a bit to warm the oil, and gradually suck on the tip, erl flows into the chamber. Slowly. This is ESSENTIAL with thick erl to keep the wick and coil saturated. Too much sitting there, and it will gurgle and (then) it WILL leak. Gotta vape the chamber almost dry before setting it down. If you try to vape a dry coil, foul surprise, it burns. Delicate balance but manageable if you think it through.

The leak is also manageable but you can't have your vape and keep it too. If you make the erl/EJmix blend very thin, if you oversuck to fill the chamber, you MUST take steps because it has nowhere to go but down and out the 510 connector. Vape it all, plug it and/or keep the cart inverted. Don't expect the impossible. You CANNOT have both a full chamber for easy vapor AND no leaking.

And finally as the wick/coil ages it becomes stiff and caked. It will wick poorly and it will leak very well. The moral: replace it often, it's cheap relative to the miraculous substance it vaporizes! When recovering any erl from the ruins (after letting it stand warmed and inverted long enough to separate the unused erl), note that most half burned erl left on the wick tastes bad and perhaps isn't worth saving.

fernand,

Thanks for your advice , what you said makes perfect sense now that I use what you said to analyze the issues I've had. The T-dux I had gotten last Friday worked awesome and tasted great but ended up flooding and now I see what you said about the delicate balance and clearing the chamber when finished.. this is not going to be like ejuice where I vape and then just put down when I want to with no issues. I'm still experimenting with different atomizers for the t-dux but I am also going to re evaluate the ones ive used so far since your pointers have me thinking I should of taken more care . how exactly would I completely clear the chamber before ending the session without inadvertently pulling in more oil when taking a drag to clear it ? btw the t-dux no matter what I did always tasted great just ended up flooding , im trying the atomizers with the smaller slots today in hopes to slow down the flow when the juice is warm but im going to keep in mind what you said.. I have reclaimed some of my oil and im not to worried about whether it tastes fantastic or blah at the moment since im simply just trying to find something that works for me before I put top shelf stuff in. I'm using my bubblelicious trim for qwet oil at the moment so no big deal cause ive got plenty more and when I get the extraction and vaping part down pact im going to break into my good stash.

any tips for using the sapphire v5 ? viscosity and technique in using it?

I ordered online from MarijuanaMarket.com and tried out their CannOil or Marijuana Gold Oil. It isn't the strongest stuff but it works with the mPT3 and v3 coils.

In an email with the guy at the store he told me that it contains 70-80 percent thc. I find that hard to believe when it sells for $40 dollars for .5 oz and it hits mildly.

I have to take a few hits before I feel medicated with the Sativa blend of it. The Indica blend medicates slightly better.

Just wanted to let you guys know about this cheap PG infused weed oil that works perfectly in my atomizers.

Hi Guys,

Long time Lurker first time poster.

First off I want to thank you all for the wealth of information this forum provides. I've been looking for a way to get off the bong and slow down my flower habit a bit. I've been experimenting with different vape pens and carts for a bit now. Tried an O-pen first, the draw was super restrictive and taste left a lot to be desired. Tried a Tetra labs Pure Gold cart, the draw was incredibly restrictive, taste was all right but the effects were better, I knew I was heading in the right direction. After doing some reading on here and around the internet I turned to the Gotvapes Sapphire Carts, we had a new winner. I've been filling those with either PureGold or Liquid Gold to great success. No leaks yet, decent taste and a great draw. So far so good!

I've decided the taste Isn't quite what I'm looking for yet, with these disposable refillable carts the hits seem to be a bit inconsistent every once in a while. I'm ready to try the next step up, a refillable glass tank and straight C02 oil extractions. I've got a 20W VW Mod heading to my doorstep as well as a Kanger Miniprotank3 and a bottle of Liquidizer. I've also been looking at the aspire Nautilus Tanks as some yutube reviews I've seen have said that it is less prone to the dreaded leaking. Well in a fit of impatience and excitement today I went out to a local Vape shop and purchased a full-sized Aspire Nautilus tank. This thing is beautiful and I can't wait to get my VW battery to try it out on.

I think I made one little mistake though and have a question for you guys in regards to thinning down oil with EJ-Mix. In my haste and excitement today I got the tank home and filled it right away with a half gram syringe of a nice Sativa C02 extract, it was super thick and didn't flow at all, stuck right to the side of the glass. Both The Liquid Gold and the Tetra Labs Pure gold are of a much much lighter viscosity than the C02 oil I purchased.

My questions are:
Are you able to add drops of EJM mix directly to the tank to thin it out or do I need to extract the oil some how and heat it up and mix with the EJ Mix properly (I assume that is the proper procedure, there are no instructions I could find on the liquidizer site in regards to use of the EJ Mix).

Other than extracting the extract from the tank what are my options? Could I fill the tank with a 100%PG mix e-juice to thin it out. Or perhaps just fill this tank with Liquid Gold or Pure gold and let the thinners used in those products work on the thick C02 oil?

I mistakenly also bought the big Nautilus tank instead of a mini. Half a gram of C02 oil does not go very far in filling up a 5ml tank let me tell you!

Thank you guys very much in advance for any advice or help as well as all the advice and information I've already read and been able to absorb here. This thread has been super super helpful. I'm committed to figuring out the best tank/mod juice solution and look forward to sharing any information I find with you guys!

Welcome aboard- I would first test out the pure c02 oil, you may be surprised at how well it wicks. Ultimately if you are not happy with that, you will have to apply heat to get it to mix with EJ, I reccommend that you extract the oil first.

Thanks Baltik!

I'm going to give it a try when I get home, assuming the oil has migrated to the bottom of the tank by then this stuff is seriously thick! Would it be ok you think to gently heat the whole tank with a heat gun or hair dryer in order to get the oil to flow down to the bottom?

I think hairdryer should work, remember the lower the heat and the slower the process the less you will damage the oil/terpenes

You should be able to turn the tank upside down into a shot glass to be later used for mixing and extract it all at 80/90 degrees so a warm water bath or leaving it In the sun or close to a fireplace/heater may work better

I saw some Sapphire type carts on e-bay that are 0.3 ml total capacity. That's a great idea. The 5 ml tanks sure feel a bit like a ballerina in a 13 wide pair of galoshes. But if it's a bottom feeder with no slack at the bottom, it can feed even if it's only 5% full. You could add a couple drops of ejmix and warm it up, or try to stir with a wide gauge needle (18 gauge or fatter) and slowly aspirate into the syringe, pump in and out to mix. It doesn't have to be evenly mixed. You can even put EJMix on the wick and let the oil blend ON the wick. Lotsa possibilities.

Sure, the cold oil sticks to the sides, but if you slowly gently warm it you can get most of it to seek the bottom.

I'd forgotten about this one 2.2 Ohm Master Kush MiniProTank2 lying in the Concentrates Chest, a lot of oil on the glass wall, not a trace on tip of the 510 connector, and so I stood it tip-up for a couple hours, and it was locked and loaded! 3.3 volts on an Ego Twist, two hits and - Wow! But even if I hadn't let it stand, there's always enough in the oven for a couple good hits, the thick oil is very happy on the wick if it's nice and porous, i.e. if you don't burn it.

You'll just have to keep trying things until you find your happy medium. If you have to thin it and even if you end up with 80% EJmix, it may taste like Polly Ethyleen's tit, but it's still gonna getcha there, it's not fatal, next one will be better.

I like 70% thick dark oil w/ 30% EJmix in the Sapphire type, it makes it easy to handle, and 100% oil in the MiniProtank2. The MiniProtank3 has that big wick hole that I don;t think is worth messing with. It'll feed like gangbusters initially but then IMHO too many things start happening at once.

With these oils that spec at 70% THC, it's powerful medicine, it only takes 2-3 light hits to adjust me brain. Bystanders don't even know where it's coming from, if you stealth the device and keep the temp low. I toked 4-5 riding the Bay Area ferry, and it was ... too much. The point being that PGld and the thickest oils still feed well enough to vape and not burn if you go slow. If you go too fast something's gonna burn ;-)

Best wishes!

So is that the key? Just going slow? I've tried about every tank out there with poor results. Fine for e liquid, crappy for oil. I've tried different pg/VG mixes for thinning, and different methods. Even tried using a little alcohol at first. Tried ce-4 type atomizer tanks, protank, nautilus-- never heard of sapphire-- there are companies making pre mixed tank refill kits, o pen and the lab both, o pen makes no mention of its contents and the lab stuff has like 4+ ingredients. I just want to fill a tank with oil and GO. proving much harder than I thought. Been at this for months, the e-cig thing is all over but not so much knowledge about using w THC products. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yes going slow is probably the most important thing. The wicks were not made for STP oil treatment. Give it time to warm up and get less viscous, then feed on the wick. That EJmix is very useful stuff too. The way I see it i can drive faster with a weaker blend, like more EJMix with a sapphire, or go very slowly in an Abrams Tank ;-)

I just made an account so I could add this to this conversation. I've started thinning out CO2 extracts with very small amounts of ejMix. I got the iClear 16B and 16D tanks with dual bottom coils. I haven't used the 16B with concentrates only with E-liquid however I've found that the 16D works very well. The only difference between the two is the 16B has a glass tank but is shielded by plastic, I got the 16D because it was clear unfortunately though it is not glass. I know your conversation was about using concentrates in tanks without thinning them out with glycerol, but I wanted everyone to know of this good dual bottom coil. So far regular use has not burnt or damaged the wicks as far as I can tell.
