Nano GonG + SSV, all glass air path

Listen to that airflow,
Oh man...that is a sweet idea.. if only I had a standard SSV heater-cover and they didn't give me a free spherical-ground glass upgrade years ago when I picked mine up :ugh:

I own 3 SSVs and the Vein gray color one is just awesome.
none of the pics online come close to doing it justice.
anyone else rocking a vein gray SSV?

i've been using this as my primary ssv wand/whip setup w/standard heater cover --
m5zWG8F.jpg

its the miniwand with a basket screen, piece of silicone whip and ssv mouthpiece. i hold up the ssv w/my left hand and work the wand w/my right. it provides tasty clouds with a small log-like load size. the double screen filters all particulates out and its surprisingly smooth. the silcone connection gives it a bit of give while rotating the wand and the connection is airtight between the wand and the standard heater cover. would recommend

I've been using a similar set-up with my nano. Never even thought to try it with my SSV,

I highly recommend this MP, a lot less bulky than the SSV stock. It's like a cigar tip.

I totally agree about the double screen. I use double screens on my standard wand and my nano stem, the screens get dirty pretty quickly.

any one have any tips for not getting very small bits of material into your mouth with a direct draw?

thats one of the reasons I use water most of the time.

  1. remove the mouthpiece.
  2. put a section of a gal's nylon stocking over the part of mouthpiece that plugs into tube.
  3. re-install mouthpiece with the nylon on it.
  4. trim the excess nylon.
This can be done with other fine stretchy material.

Sooper noob alert...I haven't read it all yet, but ...does this thread ever address/discuss the issue of the amount/quality/visible appearance of the vapor you see coming out of your Silver Surfer?

I was going to just ask straight-out about it, but if there's already something you could point me to, that would be nifty.

Oh....if it hasn't been discussed yet, here's my wonderings...

I have watched the Vape Critic's review vid for this vape, and in that vid, it looks like the tube fills with a nice, thick cloud the whole time he's drawing, and then a nice, dense cloud when he blows out.

However, it's not happening like that for me.

I assume the correct response is,
"You're not doing it right."

OK, so what am I doing wrong?
It's all new to me. So, I'm ready to learn.

Could be your bud.

I've tried two different strains, and same with each.

Heated up to the right temp?

Temp=? It just has a knob and I turn it.
The instructions I've heard are,
"Turn it on and turn knob all the way up and let it sit there, heating up, for a few minutes.
Then, after the pause, turn it down to about half, and you're ready to draw"

So, I have no idea what the temp actually is.

Is the heating element up high enough?

How would I know if the element is up high enough?
I suppose perhaps I should have done a more thorough job of reading the instruction pamphlet.

I will check there too, but I'm still interested in hearing your take on it.

Lighting?

The room I'm using it in is definitely lit well enough, but I wonder if background colors and angle of view could be playing tricks on me.

Are you getting the desired effect?

As for 'the desired effect', that's debatable. I am definitely able to get an effect this way, but since I can't see it actually happening, I'm never sure if I'm even getting anything until it hits me a while later....very different from burning it with a flame.

So, while I wouldn't ever want to complain about getting high (I've never been 'too high', no matter how bad it was  ), it would probably be a more enjoyable high overall if I were to have a mechanism for gauging my intake (like with burning it).

I know the two (burning -vs- vaping) are so different that, in some sense they shouldn't even be compared. So, I'm only making reference to burning it, because that was my initial intro to intake, and I'm just using an example I can relate with.

Not necessarily saying it 'should' be one way or another. I'm just looking for maybe some training in how to draw in the vape world.

Is this your first vaporizer? You can find videos on the heating element adjustment on youtube I believe they are somewhere in this thread already also. I know there is know temp reading, but how dark is the bud getting? You'll want some dark ABV if you're used to smoking. You'll find your sweet spot on the dial and then you can pop your knob off and then place it center so you can just always go back to that temp. Slower the draw the hotter the air will be as it hits your bud.

Edit Sorry for the cluster of rambling

If your ssv is working properly, there are two main variables: temperature and air flow. The knob mostly controls the heat and air flow can be affected by how fine the grind is, how much herb you put into the wand, how tight you pack it and whether your screen is clean. The strength of your inhilation also affects temperature. Optimally you want a very open flow of air through the ssv. Higher temps produce the most visible vapor, if thats your thing. Be warned, the ssv can and will combust at high temps. Its not pleasant.

Part of me wants to say "I know" to everything you guys have said so far, but I guess, even if I know these points in terms of words, I must not be fully comprehending them experientially yet.

So, I will probably need a few more days to experiment and see what I come up with.
Part of the difficulty is the fact that, unlike with burning it, I can't simply draw into my mouth and blow it out without inhaling. So, as I'm trying to get my drawing style figured out, I'm getting higher and higher and have to stop and pick it up the next time.

@hoptimum
RE: "if thats your thing"

Like I said, it's not about what I want, but what I need.
Ultimately, I wouldn't care if it were completely invisible, except for the fact that I need some kind of sign or feedback mechanism to help me gauge how much I'm intaking. When I just keep drawing and drawing because I can't tell if it's 'working', sometimes I'm getting nothing and it does nothing for me, and other times, I'm getting a crap-ton without even realizing it, and well....no, I don't like not being able to gauge it.

I will figure this out.
I know it's probably just a matter of testing the heat level and my drawing technique, at very small increments.
I just need more time. :)

I figured, of all places, this would be one where it's safe to be a noob (i.e. if you're not chilled out around here, you're definitely doing it wrong  ), and so far, you've only proven me correct on that. So, thanks a lot, everyone. It's nice to be home.

The distance your load is from the heater also makes a difference. So a fully packed wand would use less heat than just a pinch, unless you are using my Screen Mod which keeps the distance constant. This can also cause problems when your load starts to shrink up from the heat, as it puts it farther from the heat source.

Someone also mentioned lighting. You said you where in a well lit room, which may be your issue. You need contrast, like a dark room with a single light source, preferably a windows as the sun can get very bright is what I prefer, but I use a table lamp.

You may also want to think about getting a Water Pipe, as this gives you instant feedback on how much vapor you are getting before entering your lungs.

Here is what I can do with a LED bulb + Clear Mobuis Matrix. Vapor so thick you can't see my VXC behind it.

RE: your cloud = speachless. After you pulled the whip away from the bubbler, and there was just that little bit of vape left dancing around at the bottom, even that amount made me long for getting this figured out

Thanks. That was one of my favorite shows ever. :)

OK, I'm getting a better handle on the situation....at least I got one combination that works so far (i.e. heat level and draw rate). I just need to keep um, practicing.

I'm also going to try some really fresh herb sometime soon, just to see if maybe I'm letting mine dry out too much (yet another topic I need to research....storage, and all that goes with it....air and light, etc).

yeah keep practicing.
the vape critic uses special lighting so it looks like he's getting big clouds.
but during the daytime it should be only slightly visible vapor IMHO.

take long, slow draws and adjust the temp accordingly.
if you don't get any vapor slowly keep turning it up.

also realize how fast you draw affects the temp as well.

best of luck!
practice makes perfect!
practice practice.......its like riding a bike...you'll get it.

...........and if you run into any issues we are here to help you. =)
