Does the Firefly work well with very small loads as I'm a lightweight?
Or do you need a special technique like putting a small screen on top to keep the
herb from blowing out/thru the mouthpiece?
Thanks

I go where the thrills are
Have read much of this thread and do what everyone else does. I stopped the warmup process due to combustion.

I do med. grind, even tried buds, pack loosely, press button and hit it med to hard. I stop when I can't hit anymore, which is as soon as the SMOKE hits my lungs. Tastes horrible and the material is black. Not sure what to do. I have a Pinnacle Pro as backup and glad I have it as it has been several months of packing up and returning units without a working firefly. I can ensure everyone it is NOT the position of the coil as I tried that on my first one and it made no difference.

You tried what on your first one? Did you open it and move the coil? If so...don't do that. You will screw up your FF and void your warranty. If your first device combusted and you moved the coil and it still combusted, that doesn't mean the coil wasn't improperly aligned...it just means you failed to move it into the correct position (which I'm guessing is very difficult to do) or you made it worse. Seems like most folks, when they try and tweak that coil placement, make the unit hotter.

There aren't many options here...either you are doing something wrong, which it doesn't sound like you are (and I'm not really sure what you could do to cause consistent combustion anyway) or the units are all overheating, which can really only be caused by the coil being in a bad position, given the FF's design. Getting three in a row like that isn't impossible (I've been through six myself) but it is astonishingly bad luck.

If this were my situation I'd either ask for a different color replacement (to like, break the spell maybe ) or see if they will refund your money, if you've had enough headaches. I really think the law of averages would favor you getting a new unit that works just exactly right, but I can understand wanting to get off the treadmill. Good luck...let us know what happens.

I have to agree with you totally!! I got mine a few days ago and took the whole setup to an outdoor music festival. Great to have the firefly, cleaning tools, extra battery and the herb all neatly in one place...

That music festival wasn't Hardly Strictly Blue Grass, by any chance, was it?

It sure was!! Saw Mavis Staples and Chris Isaac among many others. What a great festival it is! I live in the outer Sunset so I could just walk over and not mess with parking, an added bonus!

excellent. I saw more vaporizers than ever this year. Mostly vapor pens and a couple of Paxes. I used the Ascent and mflb mostly because their battery life is better than the otherwise outstanding Firefly. Glad you had a good time. So did I, despite the heat.

162 pages, poor eyesight and a loathing of computers.......(also a bit lazy)...so I have a MFLB two years and numerous batteries later tells me it's time to move on. I come across the Firefly never actually seen one in the flesh but I think I want one.. \my top priority is material conservation as a little has to last a long time (I still have stuff that's over a year old!),.. so, is the firefly that much better than my maple box?. thanks and sorry for wasting your time.

I think the FF is more economic in herb usage than the box. To get the best results I preferred to fill it to the top though. The Lotus is even better and can work with specs of herb…

I checked out some vids on the Lotus, it uses a flame! I'm not allowed flames (bloody court order) it has to be battery powered. seriously, I don't trust a medicated me and fire. I do like the chic retro look of the Firefly especially the silver one. but will it out perform my magic box?

...I bought a Firefly a few weeks ago and was satisfied with it until it stopped heating yesterday...

....I thought it was a charging issue at first but even fully charged the bowl doesn't heat up any more...

...it was working fine right up until it didn't, except I never saw the amber temperature indicator led light come on...the battery performance was within parameters so I didn't worry aboot that...

...is this a common issue...???...

Better vapor quality due to convection...much shorter learning curve than the LB (though for sure it takes a lot of experience to get really intuitive with it)...much more consistent results without the LB's battery issues...way nicer design and build, by miles. It's just a much, much nicer vape than the LB.

The LB is stealthier due to its size, holds a lot more material, has that amazing lifetime warranty, and ís obviously much much cheaper. But if you want the coolest, tastiest vapor you've ever enjoyed, it's all about the FF.

Hello FC!
I have just received my first FF and was wondering if it is necessary to do any kind of burn in before I use it? I wiped down the air path with a little ISO and i let the FF heat up a few cycles but there is still a funky machine taste coming through the mouth piece. Any help would be appreciated and thank you all for such great insight into the FireFly. I am hoping it is the portable to take me away from combustion while I'm out during the day.

I have been salivating over the prospect of getting a FF for some time now. I kept looking for a deal, but have only heard rumors of past discount codes for minimal amounts. I even emailed FF to ask if they had any specials they could pass on to me so I could buy a FF. The only offer they made was a complimentary extra large cleaning kit, that the rep said was much larger than the kit that comes with a new FF. I kept the email, but didn't order, because of the low funds at the time. I had also signed up on FC a month or so ago, for info, tips, advice and maybe a code. I was just going to break down and buy the FF yesterday when I checked the board one last time. And viola'...a 20% off code for taking a FF survey! Sweet deal! A bright red FF is on it's way to me now, with 20% off. And, I emailed them my order number and requested the cleaning kit they promised, and that's coming too! Can you tell how happy I am?!

Not as happy as you'll be when your Firefly shows up

I am happy to report that everything has gone well with my new FF. I was able to achieve big clouds from my first pull using the methods discussed in this thread.
The only thing I am concerned about is that I had some black ABV in the middle of the load when I went to dump it. I did not notice any burnt taste or smoke coming out of the FF but it looks as though it would have if I had laid on the button any longer.
I am going to try a few more bowls and see if my unit is running hot or if it was technique related. I will report back. Thanks again for all the great info!

Likely just normal charring and not indicative of the unit running too hot. Try stirring more often during the session and see if that helps. Good to hear everything else is going so well.

I was about to buy the solo until I saw this. Solo owners can you give your opinion on this vape?

I have both Firefly and MFLB, and they complement each other very well - different vapes for different times and places and reasons.

The both take some experimenting with to get the best out of them, so my first piece of advice is don't write either of them off till you've had at least a week or two getting used to the subtleties of how they work.

To get the best from both, the grinds need to be different - use a regular bud grinder for the FF and a coffee grinder for the MFLB.

The FF tastes better to me, but that doesn't mean to say the MFLB tastes bad, not at all. It's also quicker at vaping a "load", but bear in mind the MFLB takes almost twice as much by weight, partly as the trench is larger, partly due to the different grinds.

The FF also leaves less lingering odour behind, and leaves me, the user, less "smelly" than when I've used the MFLB. That being said both are much much less smelly than smoking :-)

I've tried shaking the FF loads to mix them around, this only really works for smaller loads, and I have got the most consistent results by opening the unit and stirring. This can be quite a messy process and impossible to do outside when there's any wind at all.

I use a 20mm brass pipe screen on the top of the Firefly load, which stops material getting stuck to the lid, but I still find it best to stir the load every couple of draws. This screen gets clogged up after every few loads, so I replace with a new one. On top of all this, the Firefly needs regular cleaning, whreas the only MFLB part that gets gunked up is the mouthpiece, and that still needs alot less cleaning than the Firefly.

While the Firefly will fit in a jeans pocket, it's just too heavy for that, and makes me wish I could get away with carrying a handbag / purse. The MFLB, a battery or two and the mouthpiece are light and small enough to carry in a jeans pocket, and the only reason to open the lid is to empty the load once it's been vaped, so it can be used outside in all weathers.

So my FF is my usual vape inside, and the MFLB for outside. Every now and again I mix things up, just because I can. :-)

Pssssssst Look at what I'm working on - a SonG WPA for the Firefly!

DwpoO4p.png

I used my 3D scanner to get a basic profile of the mouthpiece region, and used some magic to make a vapor path. Now I need to convert this design to a "negative" mold which I'll use to cast a flexible silicon WPA. In theory it sounds good, we'll see how things go when I start printing!
