Foot-Activated Vaporizer

stay true to yourselves
Now it just needs to be rigged up to a guitar or drum kit so that you get a hit from the vape every time you use the pedals!

No vaporizers were harmed in the making of this mod! i.e., nothing soldered directly to any vape parts

While I realize this may seem like something of a novelty, it may actually be medically useful for people with usability issues. The reason I stumbled on this mod, was that the force required to push the mechanical button of the 8 vape aggravated my hand injury. :hmm: While trying various ways of making the button easier to push, I had the idea of not actually pushing a button at all. So, then I got to tinkering, and...

The other application is true hands-free usage. Next thing I will try is mounting the vape on a microphone stand at the right angle and height so you can just walk up and hit it while playing guitar, knitting or whatever!!!

How about hooking it up to a wah-wah pedal, for variable voltage vaping? :D

C'mon, you know Jimi would vape...

@Vitolo, do you see any use for this with the folks your work with?

This would be great for those that are juggling vapes and glass tools and could use a..ahem... hand.

I would stay away from the soldering unless you're good with it.

Electric foot switches aren't expensive. I like the looks of the first one.

Wow, thanks everyone! Hmmm, maybe I'm not so crazy after all... Nah!

Yeah @syrupy, that was my next thought too! I like the idea of using MIDI gear, because it's simple circuitry, cheap, durable and some people have it already. MIDI footpedals like the one used here simply complete a circuit when depressed. MIDI "Expression" (read: wah-wah/volume) pedals operate by control-voltage (CV in the modular synth world). Many of them have a small dial to set the lower limit of the pedal. I'm sure a better tinkerer than I could make it control VV vaping, but my scrappy ass is not about to mess around with wall current! :o

Here's a nice expression pedal by Moog. I have one of these and it is smooooooth! I'd love to have an activation pedal like mine next to a temp control pedal with this thing! Would give a whole new meaning to the words Daily Driver!!!

this has me thinking there might be a off the shelf part that can get it done.

That is a super cool idea! Foot pedal control could be really beneficial to many as has been stated.

How about rigging it up to a computer keyboard so every time I press ENTER I get a treat. That would do wonders for my productivity (well, maybe not).

I immediately thought of a guitar pedal as well while reading through- but I've just thought what about a sewing machine footpedal? It's got a linear potentiometer in it, and is likely much cheaper.
Or maybe a TIG welding foot pedal? (might break the bank on that one)
I have early Carpal Tunnel, and any way to avoid repetitive tasks would be fantastic, it's too bad voice to type sucks on.. everything

edit- holy crap those are some cheap pedals

Also, try out a pedal for a tattoo machine. I'm a tattoo artist, and I'm pretty sure it's exactly what ur looking for! Here's a link:

Plus they also have digital power supplies that are similar to the concept of the Core. I'm sure something could be made from it. Good luck and cool idea.
Right on, @Vapoholic420! So whether you have a music or tattoo background, you might already have the goods to be pedal-vapin'! :rockon:MIDI footswitches are at about the same price point (under $20), and from what it looks like, exactly the same shit (1/4" connector that completes a Tip-Sleeve circuit when depressed). Great news because it provides many affordable options. And patients could even choose other tactile or even sound-triggered interfaces to suit their needs. Clap-vape, anyone?

Tattoo power supplies could be interesting, and the sewing pots too, thanks @Grim Chiclets! Gotta get my electrical chops to where my programming chops are...

I should mention another interesting approach is breath-activated vapor, of which AFAIK, the ElevapeSV is the sole pioneer. It's a great lil vape, but the magnetic lid is not so nice for those of us with hand injuries.
