I saw the SSV wand in the link you posted, you should be able to put the elbow screen in the wand like a little cup, use the straw method to load, them pack slightly.
My d/Dave adapter uses a screen the size of a US quarter.

Hello folks, new member here. I've been lurking through this thread for quite some time now, and though I've skipped back and forth for a bit, I've gained loads of knowledge from the info posted here.

I've been a proud owner of an Extreme Q for 3 years now, but after reading about the DDave adapter + SSV wand mod, I succumbed to a little retail therapy and grabbed both (including a glass elbow from the SSV site as well).
My results so far are as follows:
  • SSV Wand + whip set + DDave adapter: Amazing. I'd been using the bag almost exclusively for the past year, and now I must say, the whip has been getting almost as much, if not more use. Here is a link to the ebay seller I got my adapter from: http://www.ebay.com/itm/18MM-FEMALE...180?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3ce90a398c . Hopefully that will help someone out. I found that turning the fan to speed 1 and taking a slow, lengthy draw can produce some really thick hits, way thicker than just drawing on my own.
  • SSV Wand + small length of original Extreme Q tubing + bag: Solid. The experience is quite similar to using the old Extreme Q adapter though, which is kind of confusing, considering the fact that I pack the inside of the SSV wand's ground glass portion, and then close that off with an elbow screen to keep the material from falling out. I assumed that since the material is all nice and close together inside the ground glass portion, and so much closer to the heating element than in a regular Extreme Q setup, I would get thicker hits. Oddly, what I believe keeps happening is the screen of the SSV wand gets clogged up with plant matter when the fan is running to fill up the bag. This also causes the bag to fill up more slowly than if I just use an elbow adapter. What concerns me is, I've read posts by other users who employed this exact setup (Wand + short tubing + bag) who report great results and thick bags. For me, about halfway into filling the bag, the filling rate just slows down significantly (2.5 minutes to fill at speed 3, which never takes that long.) Also the bags I get through this method are not as thick as regular Glass-elbow-adapter bags.
So am I doing something wrong here? Additional details: I have fit a screen into my DDave adapter, and when I put the bud on that instead of inside the ground glass of the wand, I get pretty decent airflow (still slows down a bit when too much material flies up into the wand ) and thicker bags. The best results yet have been from using the SSV wand for the whip and the glass elbow for the bags. Mayhaps I will just have to segregate my vaping to these two discreet methods? Or should I just pack much less into the inside of the wand, when I use it for bags? :hmm:

Thanks in advance for any help, and sorry for the long post. Hopefully this can also resolve this issue for others if they experience it as well. Happy vaping!

No matter how many times I have it explained to me, I can still never figure out where the mesh screen goes in these DDave setups.. So I am hesitant to give it a try.
Can you still elbow pack in the DDave setup? Ugh I've asked before but I still dont get it for some reason!

So, here's my opinion/experience. In simplest terms, there are two options. You can
  1. Pack the ground glass elbow of the SSV wand, and then cover that with an elbow screen that comes with the Extreme Q (which will keep material in between the elbow screen and the internal screen of the wand, OR
  2. You can put a mesh screen (usually 1" to 1.25" in diameter) in the middle of the DDave adapter, and place your material on that.
Now, you can put the elbow screen onto the end of the wand, and then pack herb into the screen itself like a normal elbow pack. But that seems less efficient/more likely to reduce airflow than just setting it like I mentioned in option 1.
There are fancier and more innovative ways to pack the material, but with the DDave mod, IMO the aforementioned two are the most reasonable.

UPDATE: I found that packing the SSV wand too much was the cause of my severely reduced airflow. What I did to fix it was pack in just enough to reach a little less than halfway up the ground glass part of the wand, and not grind to a powdery level (less clogging). After packing less and grinding less finely, my material is evenly vaped, and bags have been filling in <2minutes, which is fine by me!

after a good run, i broke the mini whip for the balloon. right at the bend of course. i had to take the attachment from the long whip to use until my new part gets here. i've used it about 12 times a day for the last 6 months or so, so i got good use out of it.

my only complaint about arizer is they want $8.00 to get the piece here in 6 to 10 days or $15 to get it here in 4 or 5. seriously, 15 dollars to get a tiny piece of glass here and it will take 4 or more days? i paid the $15 but i'm annoyed.

i was so nicely high when it broke, that i tried to unscrew the broken part from the mini whip part. took me a few minutes to realize it didn't unscrew. :)

i've never used the whip on this unit. i'm hooked on the bag.

Hi.
So this is a 303 page long thread.

Can someone tell summarize the issues that the EQ has had with internals melting and circuit board being too close to the heating element? Is there anything to be concerned about? Has Arizer ever refused to communicate honestly?

There's been some Arizer-flaming going on on r/vaporents for a while.

Never had / heard of anything of that nature.. at all..
This is all new to me, and I read a good 2/3rds of this thread! Think you might be stressing over nothing my man, get one and have a fat vape sesh, you won't have any circuit boards melting apart from the ones on your dopamine receptors ;)

Yeah, i thought it was just some arizer-bashers on reddit.
I've enjoyed my experience with the solo so far, best purchase i've made all year. I've been considering getting either an eq or a log vape.

it was comments like these: http://www.reddit.com/r/vaporents/comments/2jhvwa/solos_airpath_and_materials/
that said that eq's issues are 'well documented on FC".

Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster with an extreme-q maintenance question.

I just unpacked a new glass piece from the manufacturer to replace a broken heater cover, and found some discoloration. There are small dots with slight smears attached to each one sitting in a cluster, apx 1 mm below the edge of the frosted portion at the top. They are very small but refuse to be rubbed away with either iso or acetone, and yes I have tried the both sides of the glass ;)

Photo Here, The discoloration is the center of the photo, there's the little cluster of 3 and single one off to the left of it : http://imgur.com/iF8xjNR

Is this normal, like they always have those little markings when new? I've never replaced this particular piece with a new piece from the company before, only swapped one out of another unit in the past and I don't remember seeing these little marks, but they could have been obscured by the bits of resin on the glass of the used one.

I'm sure I seem paranoid but I use this thing to keep as many unkown substances out of my airpath as possible, so I can't help but be curious and concerned...

Any insight would be appreciated, thanks in advance FC!

It isn't normal for it to arrive dirty.. Can you clean it? Try getting an ear-cleaner in there with some alcohol on it and try and scrape it off.

Yes, I have given it a thorough cleaning with alcohol. I also tried acetone...no luck, they are like little ink stains, nothing else about it was dirty when it arrived...

For sure, I have emailed them...ah dang, I was hoping someone would say "oh yeah they always have those dots, idk why..." and then I could fix my poor broken vape and get back to cloud 8

Hello again, so now that I have my EQ dis-assembled because I was going to replace the heater cover, I've discovered that the heating element is a bit dirty / deformed. I know there has been some (seemingly debunked) fears that these ceramic heating elements could crack and cause health issues, so I have to ask, does this think look ok / safe to use? The unit has been in use for about 4 solid years and does not smoke or produce any weird odors even at high temps so it seems ok to me, but I would love to hear someone with more experience repairing these / examining them to chime in and let me know if a) there is a good way to clean it, and b) if the deformation of the top is a problem (you can't see in the pictures but some of the rougher edges have little scratch / indentations that are super tiny and seem stable (like they don't seem like they would cause the thing to break apart or crack further) ) but I'm curious...

I took a chance and got rid of the elbow and got a GonG E-Nano Adjust-a-Bowl. I put the silcone end of the bowl into the cyclone bowl. Works very well for attaching to glass just need to pack the herb in the Nano bowl.

Awesome!!!!

I thought with the size of the EQ's heater in comparison to the Nano's bowl, there should be a good amount of heat concentrated to such a small space.

How is the resistance? Are you using two screens, like a sandwich?

Pics if you could, I'm so giddy. I thought it would work so well for really small loads.

I'm only using the one screen it has no resistance unless I pack it tight. I only vape micro loads but it seems to vape even and way better then elbow pack. I thought I could vape a small load before but now with the Nano bowl I can go as small as I want.

Not seemingly, it has been debunked. Your heater is perfectly safe to use.

Sorry no pics not much to see really. I'm just sticking the load side of the Nano bowl into the 18mm cyclone bowl it's not made to fit an 18mm but the silcone makes a tight fit. At first I thought I was going to be able to not use the cyclone bowl and just hold the EQ heater close to the load but no luck.
It works perfect for one hit but only if I move the screen to pack the load each time.
For what it's worth if I broke my E-Nano bowl today I would order another before bed time.

have you tried the Ddave adapter yet ? it works really well. I strictly use it and have shaped my screen in it to point more towards the heating element. I get huge clouds at 200deg through my bubbler and can fill bags with ease. I am really liking this machine , what a great investment it was. I also picked up that elbow from oregon glass blowers , it is super thick as you can see in the picture , works really well.

Aren't you using a 18mm GonG?

I was thinking that you could just stick the 18mm male into the Cyclone bowl, and attach a silicone to the top of the nano bowl, the heat could come through the bottom.

Been using my nano bowl with my SSV, so useful.

Tweak that is pretty cool but i don't really like the idea of having to turn my Q upside down and also having friends turn it upside down over my glass as well. I'm pretty happy with the results i am getting now. i couldn't really ask for better.

Oh cool, thank you for responding! I also got the same response from an arizer rep today, so I feel confident about using it again, which is a relief since this is my daily driver. Although, I may have made another error in the process of examining it, I rubbed a bit of iso on the top to try to remove the stains before I reached out to the company and the community here, something that the rep told me is not advised...so now I'm wondering did I ruin it by doing this? Now that I know the ceramic element is a porous material I understand why it's a bad idea, but surely the little bit I rubbed on there would either be evaporated by now or could be purged through a "burn off cycle" right? I hope....
