Vaping concentrates through stainless steel wool vs cotton

whats your favorite method to vaporize concentrates in a flower vaporizer

after discovering the joys of concentrates in the e-nano (mostly bubble ice hash) I came here in search of a vaping medium to keep the screen clean, etc.

Some swear by cotton, others stainless steel wool, and finally, others say flowers.

I personally don't like using flowers for this purpose because they vape faster than my concentrate.

so, my question is: what do you prefer and why

I'm not vaping concentrates, but I have been saving up a bunch of reclaim from my stems. I have been using organic cotton, but I'm really not digging the added taste from the cotton itself.

I've heard of others using stainless steel wool, but I'm afraid of inhaling steel wool shavings. So for now I've been using flowers as my medium.

Others have said they like degummed hemp fiber which was out of stock for the past few months, but I just noticed yesterday that it's back in stock - I can't wait to get it. I've heard it adds a nice hemp flavor.

Organic cotton's alright in the nano as long as there's a fair distance between it and the heating element (i put mine on 10 with a wee gap).

If it's hash then I just stick it in the gong and mess up the screen. Have two gongs one blocked as fuck for hash and one clean as a whistle for herb.

flowers is fine but just hash/oil is nice too

i'm a hopeless glass addict - only glass and herb in the air path for me. i've been experimenting with an extraction made via quick wash using Everclear - i use two 90 second agitations.

so, i just drop in enough herb to cover the holes in the bottom of the vial and drop the hash on top. i find 400-410 to be pretty ideal for this batch - satisfying vapor production and not too harsh. and a very nice effect.

Generally, I use one of my old lotus screens on top of a good stack of SS wool in my Ed's stem. I only use this to vape bubble hash and flowers though (shrinks the bowl a bit so that a session doesn't = comatose too.

Cotton taste is just not worth it. I don't touch it. I would not be vaping through hemp fiber unless I was sure that this process might not create polyaromatic hydrocarbons at these temps. I am not certain of this hence my sticking to SS wool.

For those scared of shavings, put another smaller micron screen beneath the SS wool :)

Would love to try TI wool someday too! That is for a time when Herbivore is a richer toker.

I also don't think that any shavings would make it past the water in my bubbler

I've been really enjoying using ss wool. It seems to add a bit of conduction which really helps with concentrates imo

I was weary at first, as I bought a 2 pack for a dollar (which will last forever), but how well it stood up to a red hot torching made me rest easy that it could safely handle the nanos heat.

Nothing could be tasted but pure ice hash goodness

I use gold wool. Easy to torch clean and it never oxidizes, staying nice and golden all the time.

Gold also conducts the heat so well that the vaporization works nice and efficient.

Dayyum - good idea, but holy hell, do I want to even know how much gold wool costs or where to buy it??

Just picked up several Aromapads for the Herbalizer, I hear they fit GREAT in a Nano stem - can't wait to try them out!

Actually it's not that expensive. You only need very little. I make my own, make threads on a lathe and roll them together. You could buy thin gold wire, they use it in electronics. A foot costs as little as two dollars, depending on thickness obviously

The E-Nano worked great with cotton and concentrates but I'm not a fan of the taste. SS wool never seemed to work well in the Nano for me, the wool just didn't hold my concentrate well enough to properly vaporize. I always ended up with a puddle of oil in my gong and stray fibers everywhere, even when using with a hydratube my oil stuck to the sides of the gong. Some of the other solutions above sound great! Its a shame I no longer have my Nano to test these things.

I ended up saying fuck it and I bought an EVO since it excels with flower and concentrates. I haven't touched a nail, wool, cotton, pads, etc. since getting my Massdrop EVO. Gotta love the vapexnail

Yeah I've never tried straight oil with the SS wool method as I prefer a domeless quartz nail for my oil. Its always bubble hash or reclaim hash, so everything sticks well, and vapes great

I fold a fine SS screen until it's 4-5 layers thick and then drop it in my vape bowl. Works great for those full melt hash oils.

can you provide a link? Mine usually runs about$30 a foot for some small 28g wire. Gold doesn't hold up well to torching either.
that's why glass blowers fume with it.

Gold has a melting point of 1064°C (1947°F). Anything below that is fine. I torch my gold wool pads a bright orange every day, works perfect. Of course I don't melt it all to one blob, which would be entirely possible obviously, but if you use some sense it's easy to keep the structure of the wool.

Sorry, no link, I make my own gold threads on a lathe out of a chunck of solid gold. A gramm of gold runs for what? 40 bucks?? Check your suppliers, I am not located in the USA... my noble-metal links are useless to you I guess.

This looks like an enano spread but want to enter the discussion based on some portable vaporizers. I want to use concentrates with my herbal vaporizers ( pax, ascent, and the mighty....minivap coming in this week. Do the liquid pad not work?

I'm thinking about filling my ascent with flowers halfway, and then use the glass jar on top by dropping in a dab into the glass: for the pax, maybe a herb, wax, herb sandwich: for mighty, thinking about using flower on bottom and cover the bowl with the concentrate pad on top with a dab. Does anyone have experience? When I ask in portable vaporizer thread, most ppl avoid it.

lastly, which concentrates would work the best (only been buying wax, shatter, and pure gold)

Skip the glass jars - they are a gimmick with the Ascent and they don't work very well - you're better off putting the concentrate directly onto the flowers in the Ascent for best performance.

I'm much more comfortable using concentrates that do not fully melt in my Firefly. Black tar hash or kief work great sitting on a little cotton pad.

Now this is an interesting idea - I've been using a stainless steel aromapad in my Nano and it works - but it's letting too much leak through the bottom! a small wad (or several layers) of this would work nicely, right?
