Ummm, all that would be pure speculation on your part. I'd also disagree with your opinion on better efficiency, which in this case is certainly up to the user and how the vape is used.

Any good mods for making it more efficient? I have some basket screens I was going to try as spacers but I dont know if it will damage anything or not so I havent tried yet.

I have a decent amount of good portables and this thing is definitely worthy of being in the rotation with them especially if I can get the efficiency up. Right now I just feel like I have to pack a lot to get what i consider good vapor but maybe the screens will fix that.

I removed the ceramic restrictor in the mouthpiece from day one, and still wasn't satisfied with it.
then I replaced the stock screen on the mouthpiece with a normal screen....... this made the difference!!!
no more restriction , and clouds of vapor now.....
now i can actually use it and be satisfied with it..... no comparison to my solo but it's a good vape now.

I agree, I worded that poorly. The Solo itself offers those advantages over the FM irregardless of price. I think having different Flowermates create different perspectives. Mine extracted quicker than my Solo with the same amount of herb. Never would it allow a second bowl after 6 minutes or so of vaping. But that is limitation of the temperature control and me not wanting to load more in it.

I don't think this vape is inefficient, but the Solo from my experience allows more control over efficiency. But user definitely controls it in the end. I just find it more inefficient to vape with the FM for 3 minutes for 3 sessions than the Solo with the same load size and method. But technique is that deciding factor for efficacy.

I wasn't speculating that part, its just how I see it when looking at both disassembled units I was comparing specifically the Solo to the FM. Like mentioned above, irregardless of price the Solo has a cleaner and safer airpath. My evidence is that I have opened and ruined both vapes to see the internals.

But I 100% agree in general price doesn't justify air path or the safety of a product.

Just don't load a lot. Any time you have an enclosed bowl that's at vaping temp, you'll keep waste to a minimum by only having a small load, and this model is easy to load and unload, unlike something like the Indica, where it seems like herb is always getting in the crevices when loading, and you need to grab and pull out a spacer before you can unload.

What I've found that I don't like about this model, when using outside in bright light, is that I have a hard time telling when it's on. A 5 minute cutoff can be both good and bad, and the light around the power button is hard to see in daylight.

Right now I just feel like I have to pack a lot to get what i consider good vapor but maybe the screens will fix that.
What you mean by good vapor is a lot of visible vapor on exhale. If you loaded enough for one small to medium hit (and could see little to no vapor when you exhaled), you'd still be getting the vapor on inhale. And if you repeated the process until you got sufficient effect, you'd be successful in your vaping session, and would have wasted no vapor. Don't equate good performance (especially with a pocket portable) with lung busting hits and big vapor clouds. It's more satisfying for your head (as in perception), but smaller hits you can neither feel nor see are more efficient.

Just got my vapormax v5.0 today. I got it from authorizedvaporizerdealer and when I called the number, the guy was extremely helpful and hooked me up for 65$. It took four business days to get to me , but he did pay for 2 day shipping so that was awesome. 65$ for the adjustable temp flowermate, can't beat it.
First impression, it's awesome, smaller than I imagined and looks smack like a external hard drive, the flowermate vapormax technology silkscreen is a huge downer tho. Also the new Pyrex mouthpiece hardly fits into the bottom compartment, still haven't thought of a solution for that, although it is disappointing smiss would ship a product with that problem .
Packed it up after a short burn in. I opted to hand pick it, start it on medium heat and bam. Good vapor. A ton when it's on high heat. I would say it's pretty close to the solo. It lasted at least 20 pulls then I dumped it even tho it had a couple more left.
It does get a little bit hot but me and a friend held it comfortably for about 15 minutes. I'm very happy I got it. Updates to come

Anybody know if this new model will be sticking to the nickel screens? Not gonna lie that sketched me out a bit. Even if its just nickel plated whatever. Also what are the walls of the heating chamber made of? Glass or plastic?

Thanks,
Bud

Has anyone tried using cotton as a spacer? I think with a small load and a small ball of cotton to hold it in place this could be pretty efficient.

I haven't used it yet but this is the method I use with my pnp for small loads.

Got mine. Finally.

Thank you, AVD!

Also thanks for sending me a stealth BLACK instead of the overstock blue. isn't it lover-ly?
An SR-71, a Blackbird!

A tad chunkier than my Ploom! And heavier, 184gms vs 96gms, almost 2X (I could use it defensively if mugged in duh big Apple!).

Seriously, tho, took about an hour or so for the green " charged " light to come on.

Lock & load!

Initial load vaporized with a slight taste of machine oil. Hmmmm, gonna havta condition meh the sucker?

Yet already I am a bit stronger, from luggin dis brick o' gold.

Smiss might do well to make a mini, or micro version of this otherwise nize piece of vaptech. Lite, for the ladies, and for my brother sissies. Man this friggin thing is heav-ee.

Paws up! Otherwise.

Now, where's my Pax.

As I posted above, it still weighs less than my phone with case. It IS heavy, but not so much that it is a concern, at least for most.

I'm not sure why you are concerned about the nickel. Nickel is in the food you eat and in the air you breath. The Lotus folks have used it in the plate one heats with a torch to extract your goods after they researched it's potential dangers. They were not concerned, and I believe Max said that testing showed no greater concentration of nickel than that in the general environment. I think we would need to be working at much higher temps for nickel to be a prob.

I believe the heating chamber is ceramic.

Edit: More info on nickel from the Lotus site...

Will I be breathing metal fumes?
Testing by an independent laboratory found that the amount of fumes inhaled from the Lotus Vaporizer at vaporizing temperature is the same as that inhaled from ambient air at the high end of normal air quality (1 microgram per day).

According to the US Government Center for Disease Control (CDC) (section 1.3), we breathe in between 0.1 and 1 microgram of nickel per day.

Additional testing details here: http://www.lotusvaporizer.com/faq

I might be concerned about nickel screens if it were smoking, but vaping doesn't get hot enough I think (not a scientist though).

Hey @Scott A: Just like you I thought that oven looked a little large for just myself. So I use these ceramic pipe screens I got off the SSV site.

http://silversurfervap.com/index.ph...icks-screens-misc/ceramic-button-screens.html

I add between two and five depending on how little I want to use. The fit in perfectly with maybe a tiny wiggle room on the sides. I put a couple on the bottom and at least one on the top. Usually I put a glass pipe screen flower

http://silversurfervap.com/index.ph.../picks-screens-misc/glass-flower-screens.html

on top of the ceramic spacers on the bottom. So the order goes ceramic screen, ceramic screen, glass pipe screen, herbal blend, then another ceramic screen or two on top. It takes maybe twenty seconds longer for everything to warm up but it's a sure fire way to use less green! Hope that helps.

Nice find G Hog Im gonna order some of those this weekend to try out.

Like @max said I can always just pack less in there but it seems like it doesnt give me nearly as good of hits as im looking for if I do that. Hopefully a spacer will help me pack less and still get the hits Im looking for.

My 3 temp model was also black. The box shows a blue one, but there was a black sticker on the side with 'Black' on it, and I'm sure it was mistaken for a blue one. Looks like Darren didn't have as many blue ones as he thought. I got a single temp version the other day and that one is blue. The black one has a glass mouthpiece, while the blue came with a white silicone piece.

I plan to compare the temps -fixed temp version to the lowest setting on the V5.0. I've been unsuccessful in getting an answer from Smiss, after asking multiple times, on the temp used in the cheaper version.

Initial load vaporized with a slight taste of machine oil.
I had no taste issues with either of my units.

I can only think that nickel was used in the screens because they're solid around the rim and that metal was easier to work with. At any rate, nickel is not a concern with a vape screen.

I'll be watching this thread about the ceramic screens to see if that helps with smaller loads. I don't like to pack much into a conduction vape.

Can someone explain how this helps?

Well, today, not having much ado, I made a slight mod for a mouthpiece. To streamline the stealth factor, replaced the glassMP (9mm ) bit with an old one hitter bat (9mm OD) (from days of yore, com-BUST-ion, YUK!), plan to cut it down to size, to fit the unit, proportionally. Aesthetically.

Leaving the metal screw-on part of the old MP with the resized mod MP (bat) in place, now we can use the MP storage compartment for stash...... Meh, or izzat nifty?

@vaporonly: yeah the ceramic screens do the trick, at least for me. I got the idea from the DaVinci Ascent thread where people took to adding glass flower pipe screens to take up space and also distribute heat through the load. The Ascent bowl is the bottomless pit without the glass flower pipe screens! I would stare into it and despair. Checked the thread on FC and after 20 mins of reading I found the hack, and it asbolutely works like a charm.

While I was ordering more of the glass flowers I also threw in some of the ceramic screens and some glass stars as well. I use them all but the real discovery was when I got my MassDrop VM and found that the ceramic circles were perfect spacers. I am still experimenting with it. Sometimes I add one screen then herbal blend then another screen then more herb then another screen all the way to the top. This seems to work as well but creating a puck between ceramic screens top and bottom shaves the bowl size right on down and vapor production isn't affected, it just takes longer to heat up.

You may be able to find these little guys at a local tobaccos shop; lots of people seem to get their Ascent glass flowers there. I just liked to support SSV. They have great stir tools and other fun gizmos too if you are making an order...

Hope this helps you save herb! I find that I get more than adequately blazed with a far smaller amount than would be required to fill the whole bowl.

Nice. Might try adding some glass beads to Kind, the "Huge ceramic chamber" is indeed bottomless....

A nutter wispy mod for inhome portable, to kool the vapor path ( seems to filter out some particulates? ):

A Q&D way to determine your temps, Harbor Freights carries digital temp sensors for a sawbuck (20% coupon off a single item in Air & Space mag oftentimes)....

I just received my Vapormax 5.0 yesterday. So far so good! It feels really solid and the price was fantastic.

The guys I spoke with at AuthorizedVaporizerDealer.com were really great. I ordered my vaporizer on Friday and received it yesterday, free shipping too.

I've only used it once and I'm pretty happy with the results, great vapor, easy to use (well except the top slider door is really hard to slide). Little to no smell ( My H doesn't smoke and he said he didn't smell anything at all).

A quick post to clear a misunderstanding (my bad I'm no native english speaker):

Whenever here or in the Ascent thread I said "pack the bowl" I never meant to fill it fully, I meant "compact the bowl" as in use the tamping tool and make a little puck. This makes all the difference really.

I never ever had to use the glass flowers in my Ascent and I'm a strong supporter of the "puck school". Try it please and tell me if it makes a difference for you. I get huge clouds from both units this way and whenever I don't "compact" (or if the puck gets lifted for some reason and doesn't make contact with the bowl anymore) vapor becomes super wispy instantly. In fact it's a tell-tale when it gets wispy that the puck has been dislodged, either due to drawing too hard or shaking the device. I just open it and put it back in place and vapor starts again.

PS: I'll try to answer the other posts later but I have too little time right now

This is what I do. Typically I pack 0.1 grams and then compact it down leaving plenty of empty space in the bowl. Still get lots of clouds.

Hello all, I'm a long time lurker here but first time poster. You all are the reason why I originally bought my original Da Vinci! Anyways, I ordered my variable temp flowermate from AVD like some of you here. I had to call a few times to get things straight, then I realized that I had not given them my email to receive shipping and tracking info. I sent 3 emails to the email listed on their website with no response. I trust the dealer based off of their rep on this forum so this isn't a big deal to me. @Everlyblue you said it took 4 days to get to your door. What area of the US do you live in? If you don't mind me asking of course. I live on the east coast and am looking for an estimated date of arrival.

I ordered mine from AVD the same day as @Everlyblue , Friday and he didn't text me the tracking code like he said he would. I called and got it and it turned out he shipped it Monday from Cali and it was in good ol Maryland by Wednesday. Oh and mine was black too, but I prefer that over the blue
