Arizer Solo

I charged my Solo for 8 x hours last night, going to do the burn-in's and trial tonight! So I found my glass pieces (straight and bent) fit in easily. Didn't even have to heat up the unit. Even though it is brand new the stems are pretty loose. So what size o-rings are you all using? We are metric in Aus but even if you can tell me imperial sizes I'll convert it. I saw OF mentioned they have to be a high temp silicone. Any advice would be great as I would like to tighten up things a bit if I can. Then I'll have to work out how to get them to Aus.

Also the screens that came with my Solo are too big to sit in the bottom of the bowl. Am I meant to cut them down a bit or bend them (dome) and push them in?

Cheers guys, can't wait to get vaping!
113 high temp silicone. Goes under the cap, sitting on the heater. There's two different sized caps that are barely different but with one you can just place it and go, the other one you may have to thin it out a little bit. Put it on some tape and use sandpaper to thin it down.

The 500F is the rating you want. The size, 113, is 13.94mm ID with a 2.62mm cross section. Hopefully you can match that. I'm guessing 14mm X something although it should be available as size 113.

I suggest you dome the screen up a bit. This allows vapor to flow 'sideways' to get to a hole in the glass partition. Otherwise, only the small fraction of the screen not blocked will be 'working' it will foul out very fast. I recommend SS screens and saving the dirty ones and 'flaming' them clean in batches.

113 orings improve my SOLO experience!

@OF thank you for saving me from destruction!
I broke a stem once a week for a year!
I have not one a stem in a long time.
I broke 5 GonGs because lime stone hates glass and doesn't like orings.
Dry PHVES stem with chillum tip is all I do with my SOLO.
Medication is the goal!
At least the 113 silicone orings is maintaining my means of medicating.
It's past 420 however does it matter?

I have a lot of cordless tools!
The SOLO is basic no non sense medical device.
You just make it even better!

Thanks Quetz and OF for the great advice! Just what I was after! I saw some mentions of Puff It Up as well. Checked out their site and I'm looking to possibly get one of these.....thoughts? Comes with a free 4 pack of o-rings as well. They also ship to Aus!

EDIT. I will still use that advice to get some locally for spare :)

So having had a davinci ascent for a couple months and it breaking I've decided I really need a backup that performs better than my mflb and has a similar use to the ascent. So having seen one at a good price of £120 I thought I'd go for it.

One thing I love with my ascent is not needing to stir it yet still thoroughly vaping the load, does the solo do this effectively?

Also it seems like bits of weed on the occasion may drop through into the heating chamber. Does this create much of an issue or is it simple to clean?

And at full temp is it worth keeping the avb, I'm hoping not as I just bin it with the ascent.

Cheers :).

I am not ROCKEFELLER however I am ATAXiAn!

The SOLO is just a tool nothing fancy.
I'm a medical so for me it's perfect!
The ACCENT I can't say however get a backup and see for yourself/!
I don't save ABV however people do.

Okay thanks, I like simple and basic. Just for personal use to sit and sip on.

Ease of use is why I love my ascent :). Look forward to trying it out and will be nice to have the spare. Not sure which one I will use most as I do love my ascent so will take some beating to top that.

You're welcome, glad to help when I can......and I know 'the Q man' is cut from the same cloth.

IMO it's very hard to go wrong with Ed's Stems. The fact it's packaged with a few rings (they last almost for ever) is a real bonus. Recommended buy.

I own both an Ascent and several Solos. Both are good vapes, and while I've had no trouble with my Ascent I think it's safe to say Solo owners have fewer problems?

Yes, you don't need to stir, in fact you can vape intact buds if you want. Dust down the vents seems to be a non problem. I went on a bender one night knocking what I could onto a piece of paper, it was definitley 'vaped out' but not combusted. Not to worry.

I generally don't save ABV any more, not much THC left, excellent concentrates are easily available in the Dispensaries and it tastes bad to me. I save enough for those 'give me the CBD, I gotta sleep' times, but otherwise........

I say 'go for it'. You won't be sorry.

The Solo is a worthy vape for anybody's arsenal. It can be used as a desk top or a portable. Also gives the herb wonderful vapor flavor with the glass mouthpiece. You can use a screen with your mouthpiece so cannabis doesn't fall through into the stem into your mouth. No problems with keeping this vaporizer clean. I don't stir my herb for my 10 min session, but if I use the same herb again for a second session then I will stir. this unit is small about the size of a can of Red Bull. You can always buy a wood stem from @Ed's TnT to make it truly portable.

I also have the Ascent and like it very much. I use it probably 3 or 4 times a week. I get very good results with the glass flowers as spacers. I know some folks have had some problems but I like mine very much.

The Solo is a very sturdy unit that's been around for a while. The unit has just been upgraded so it can be used and charged at the same time. It also has better airflow, so it's not as hard of a draw.

If you decide to buy one, make sure you go with an authorized vendor. The Solo is $160 with free shipping through Puffitup and if you have to return it for any reason they will pay for shipping.

Arizer really made a winner with this vape. It's my go to vape. I own 3 units. This thread is over 1200 pages, what does that tell you? I just have portable vaporizers. I like something small but mighty. You get that with the Solo.

Ahhh I had heard of the famous ED by reading the last 30 odd pages of this thread but I did not know they were his stems on the Puff It Up site! One last question is there one type of wood that is better than others flavour wise or is it all just about looks? They list Granadillo, Bloodwood and Mexican Paela models on the site.

Top stuff @OF & @CarolKing

Cheers for the info, I have already purchased my solo :). Just wish I had already purchased one. Just weeks ago I think I posted in the ascent thread about considering a solo backup lol.

Its Just Temporary

Second solo arrived today. It was charged to a solid 4 out of the box.Plugged her in and it took 103 minutes to go solid green(yes I sat there and watched)Figure ill go another 12 hours(didn't do that with the first one,I just couldn't wait)and see how it goes, she sure is shiny. And its nice to have a backup....just in case. This one came with the updated manual, the one I bought 3 months ago did not,but it still can be used while plugged in.For anyone out there thinking about getting a solo,Just Do It.You wont be sorry.

Yup, that bottle cap like thing below the stem on the web page is Ed's logo.

IMO there is a slight taste advantage to some woods, but that rapidly disappears as the inner wall coats with condensate. After that it tastes like vapor.......which is fine by me.

Gee, I sure hope not. At least not a replacement. The current Solo is great, some think the older version (true PA, smaller holes) was better even. I hope they don't do what TV did and abandon 'the old stuff'......

Check out Eds thread. You can PM @Ed's TnT. I prefer the 3 inch black wood WonG that I use as a mouthpiece for my Solo. I have the Granadillo too. I have the wood WonG and black wood mouthpiece for the Ascent. I like glass but like to switch it out to wood too. If I'm working out in the yard or garden I like using my wood WonG.

With the Solo if using the wood you need to go up a heat level. If I use heat level 4, I go up to 5.

They were a little thick, I had to slice a small section off with an exacto knife to get the top to screw back on.

@Traaaaan , thanks for the tip about slicing the O-ring ! I was just living with the fact that my red 450F rings made it so the top would barely screw on. Awesome ! Did you all hear that, take an exacto or razor and slice off the thickness of the red high temp o-rings (still curious of they are size no. 113 or not (?)) so the cap fits snug, gonna try that right now. Blessings !

Was brought up not too long ago but nothing ever came of it. AFAIK there's nothing new in the works though the Solo has some years already and Arizer is picky about what it releases. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Re: material falling into the heating chamber, yeah it can happen if you use it dry. Not a big deal really and it won't combust though it will vaporize faster than the rest of the material since it's sitting directly against the heater (conduction vaporizing).

Size 113 is the correct size for the high temperature o-rings.

If you dig back far enough this has been discussed a lot. That is the 'right' ring but the caps on Solos vary, as does the height of the top of the oven to a lesser degree. I posted a photo of the difference in cap thicknesses, it's substantial.

You have to be careful fitting the ring in any Solo (that part keeps getting lost). There's a lot of 'mechanical advantage' in the threads, a bit like a vice, you can put serious pressure on the Solo it was never designed for if you're not careful. The force tries to push the chassis out the bottom, cracking the really frail tabs on the bottom where the screws are.

The general advice is to carefully 'feel' when the ring first gets pinched and go no more than 1/4 turn more. You don't want to crush the ring at all (attractive as that might be). The idea is the ID of the ring grabs the stem and the lid keeps the ring from rotating. It's not to 'tighten up the grip' by crushing the ring.

Shaving works, I've had better luck sticking the ring to tape to grip it and sanding the other side down. It's slower, but easier to control and you can't cut yourself....... I do flats on both sides.

Another issue is some additional airflow is blocked that used to go over the top of the oven and down next to the stem. Putting the ring in adds restriction by blocking this flow. After experimenting a fair bit I've come to cutting 3 notches on the oven side of the ring. Here's an earlier effort, showing how I made the notches (grip the ring they slice the bulge off with a razor blade), except I went to 3 (larger) notches and on the side that faces down rather than the ID.
CApRNuG.jpg

Here's a shot of two of the caps, you can clearly see the difference in thickness (which is why 'one size does not fit all......). The one on the left is the newer one in this case.

Someone mentioned they bought the silver Solo because they didn't think that the paint wore off? I've seen silver units with the paint wore off. I have a black one that's over a year old and I have no paint wearing off.

The Solo makes a good first vaporizer with its ease of use and cleaning. You just charge and you are good to go.

I chose the silver as i figured that if i dropped it i would scratch the black finish off exposing the silver below so i thought may as well just go with silver that said i have a friend who dose cerakote work and thinking i might get it done in olive drab green for something different

Went to use my Solo last night and something is messed up as it wont take a charge. I tried it with two different chargers and both charges worked with my friend solo this morning. Well shoot another broken solo I guess. Ive probably only used my current one about 20 times in total since getting it because I was worried something like this would happen.

I guess its time to contact arizer. I hope they arnt as horrible with customer relations as they were the first time I had to warranty a unit. At least I have other portables I like better now so It wont be that big of a deal if this ends up turning in to a long drawn out process again.

So to confirm, the Solo determines whether it will charge or enter PA mode based on the input voltage? Charging input voltage is 12v? PA voltage is <9v? Where am I correct and where am I wrong? Also does anybody have a power adapter link? I think Jameco removed the adapter from their product line.

Thanks,
Bud

Yup , I need a new PA too .
Mine started to fray right at the barrel tip that attaches
to the Solo . I think , really I just need to re-attach the barrel tip properly .
The green light still comes on when plugged in .
Maybe PIU or PV still has some in their inventory .
or @Pipes .
Ya , that's the Ticket .

Yeah, sorta. The old version does that. From 6.9 to 9.0 Volts it runs PA. Over 10.1 it charges. Between it flashes lights but does little else. Remember, while it only takes an Amp or so to charge, you need over 2.5 for PA.

The current version is another story. No PA mode in the same sense.

Pipes can set you up with an adapter if you ask real nice.
