ordered a few DBC coils from the master and added a new drip tip to the igo-w. Not for use when stealth is a concern, but I like it a lot!

Just got that drip tip too from FT. Its pretty neat. Def not a good travel one, but good for around the house. Def a great buy. Im happy with it.

2 coils... one wire. this is the coil i have been playing with lately. this is sleeved in RXW and crimped together similar to the DBC. its either the "mummy" coil or "pharoah" coil. the wire resembles a human skeleten of the upper torso... and then its wrapped in RXW... hence the mummy name. anyway, this coil uses about half the RXW that the DBC does, but its a bit smaller. can be mounted on the side or on top. pics of the final coil soon. just wanted to share.

Interesting idea 2clicker. I need to see this in action... well mounted, I cant quite picture how you would do it. Please show.... with the rxw that is. Or at least how you would be able to close the top cap. I feel like its sticking out over the edge. Or is that just the picture??

Anyways, Ive been really busy but I got a bunch of new stuff from FT to build on and I had the DBC coils from 2clicker.... But to get right to it, Ive got some time coming up so I will make the tutorial on rebuilding that I have been doing. I actually think I have my new favorite coil setup. I feel like its constantly evolving.... which is a good thing. Anyways, this its got to be one of the closest things I have hit to a nail, and of course the flavor is amazing since I built it with RXW. I actually tried to build it with some ceramic I had left but once again too big. I need to find out where I can buy some smaller ceramic rods. If anyone knows where to please inform me! I would be most gracious!

This is the Grenade as FT calls it or elsewhere the Cannon, Orb, etc. I got this on FT, never tried the others, and Im sure they are great, prob better, but not important since I rebuilt. You can get ceramic coil ones now, which I might just have to order since I have not been able to find a place to buy. Oh did I say...? Its SUPER EASY to rebuild!!!! Well its the most easy of any coil I have tried to rebuild.

I have it on a Nemesis mod with an ego adapter, I took a picture with it off so it could be easily seen. I actually have rebuilt this coil since I shot this. The first build was .6ohm, which was too low. It worked great, but I wanted one I could use on all batteries. I rebuilt it and it now is running at 1.2ohm. Ill retake some pictures soon, the coils look much better. Anyways to the pictures... the best part right?

ok, so I finally drilled out the airholes on the igo-w and it is now much easier to hit. Still using the same coil, not sure if the size is making it use more oil or not. @2clicker, what have you found is the optimal number of wraps in the dbc coil?
rrJgCSi.jpg

Here is the replacement coil I will eventually try before I order a few premade by the expert...
kn3ZHfh.jpg

my apologies for never replying to this. id say your coils look nice. the # of wraps you want will differ depending on a few factors. wire thickness and length mostly. if you wrap a coil and love the size, but hate that its too hot or too cold, just wrap that same coil with a larger/smaller thickness of wire. then you can really dial in your resistance by adjusting the length of it and its leads.

Hello all, I spent the last week or so doing my research about what are good portable wax vapes out on the market. After repeatedly seeing the same recommendation crop up for DIY handy people to just make their own using a RDA and a mod I went out and did more reading. Eventually Google lead me to here, which as far as I found is the best and most consolidated place discussing this. So I figured I'd post my stuff here and keep It going.

After reading through I decided I want to make a setup for wax that minimizes or removes wicks from the equation. The pours quartz and ceramic wicks will probably be the exception I take to that. So my thought and hope was that I could fashion some sort of tiny tiny crucible or glass evaporating dish to put directly in the atomizer to let the wax rest on that while being kept to the coil.

All the thoughts and ideas I had were tossed out the window when I finally got an RDA in my hand and realize how goddamn tiny the fucker really is, and how insanely tiny of a dish I will need to craft. Needless to say I had to go back to the drawing board with my ideas some. So here is prototype #1 for you guys, made from a glass nail I got at a local smoke shop. Obviously this is pretty rough and more of a proof of concept more than anything. That 1 test puff was quite tasty tho.

nice first post!

why no wick? because of flavor? i ask because wont straight kanthal give a slight metal taste? i would def suggest a ceramic wick of some type. let the oil vape off of that instead of metal.

keep at it and welcome aboard!

Yes, I am trying to avoid wick for flavor and also then I have no worries about running dry.
Ceramic, quartz and other stone wicks I am more open to as they are about as inert as we can get.

On a related note; pumice, has anyone used or thought about using that as a wick? Obviously pumice is a quite wide term and there are many different chemical makeups of pumice. So there is another research step to take there to find what if any makeups would be inert and ideal for our purposes here. But it could potentially work, what you guys think? (did i miss this suggested earlier?)

The taste and off-gassing from the metal coil is somewhat un-avoidable I'd imagine. Braided wicking the coil probably provides a pretty large buffer but I've gotta think some oil is touching the metal regardless. I'm not really looking to buy braided wick right now, perhaps once I get a good dish or 2 made I can trade u some via PM. :p

#2 Gotta run to work, no time to coil and test yet.

The RDA is the Plume Veil, FYI.

Easy and fast way to make braided coil.

1. Cut Piece of Kanthal Double the Length you want
2. Fold in Half
3. Take drill and put folded piece in and screw it down tight.
4. Take pliers and hold other two pieces tight together.
5. Push the button and let her rip
6. Wait until it snaps for it to be finished.

Usually takes about 30 seconds for me to make one bit.

Also, LOVE that idea of that glass dish, how did you make it smaller; with a dremel? What size RDA is that your using that can fit the dish? Def interested in the route youre going, however, I would still suggest adding a wick in addition to that dish. It just would make it grab every drop back up. If you can get that glass dish to stay in place and have a wick it would be a pretty kickass rda. That way no runoff would be on the bottom of the RDA. Also will solve the problem of the atomizer shorting if its too close to the metal deck.

i really like the glass dish as well, but need something to wick as most of my usage is with the coil upside down. i would think that some of the dab would fall straight out if inverted and plugged into a downstem w/out something to hold it near the heat.

After a brief retirement of three months I can finally return. I decided to step up my pen game this time and avoid the clones. Decided to go with authentic equipment, I picked up a 4nine mod and immortalizer rda. Just waiting on my readyxwick to arrive and build some coils. Last time I went with dual parallel coils with readyxwick. You guys have really evolved since I last posted on this thread. Just curious what are your favorite coil setups, the idea of threading wire through the readyxwick is a game changer.

that's a tight package! what did that run you?

im really into the idea of the 3nine and fortune type mod. but I dont think I wanna cheap out on a fast tech clone either!

A 4nine new will run around $150 and an immortalizer $75, but I got both of them used off of reddit ecigclassifieds. The 4nine cost me $50 mostly because he only had the 18350 tube and the immortalizer cost me $30.

I had a clone 4nine around 6 months ago and the magnet switch wasn't the best. It would misfire sometimes and the button would get extremely hot. Hopefully the authentic won't have the same issue...

What is the benefit of braiding the wire?

Twisting the wire is similar to using lower gauge wire, it almost (not exactly) halves the resistance. The main benefit is the extra surface area and heat it provides. The only slight downside is that it takes a little longer to heat up because there is more wire.

so does the legnth and overall gauge make the most impact on the ohm of the coil wire? ive never rebuild a coil before... I had read that the number of wraps influenced this but it sounds more like how much total resistive wire makes the big difference... explaining why some ecig builders use non resistant silver wire on some of their builds I suppose.

Yea the number of wraps and coil diameter influences the overall length, that with the gauge effects the ohms. Some people use nichrome wire instead of kanthal because it has a lower resistance and heats up faster.

what about titanium wire? I have a kiss globe in route with a ti upgrade. I had assumed it was the coil... I suppose it could just be the housing... but is titanium wire resistant enough to use?

the new chip from evolvapor for use in DIY boxmods has temperature control which is tied to the coil, allowing for a range from 200f to 600f. This is gonna be amazing for the rebuildable dripper using guys, because it means overcooking your oil and ruining the taste will be a thing of the past, as it automagically modulates the wattage to maintain the preset coil temperature.

To answer an earlier question I do all my glass shaping with a diamond blade or grinder mounted on a dremel tool. Please wear a mask and safety goggles and keep the tool and material piece very wet. Someone Pm'ed and asked me dimensions of the glass pieces so I figured I would just post some images of their measurements. I was also asked the size of my RDA and I don't know, however I did recently order the 28mm plumeveil from fasttech https://www.fasttech.com/p/1836004 And looking from the internal center post it would seem that I currently have the 22mm version which I got in store. Whenever I get that new one from FT then we'll know for sure.

Here is the first dish measured.

@Dramma Lamma, thanks for the pics. are you aware of what kind of glass is used for those bulbs?

What is the benefit of braiding the wire?

kingtut106 already covered the common reasons, but i find it gives me a larger OD than a single wire (w/out changing the resistance much)... of which fills the inside of the RXW more... of which helps it heat the RXW more evenly.

Coil is 1.3Ω Dish broke and was recreated but turned out smaller.
Might just make another dish like it, setup dualies and call it a day because this is working really well.
It's glass that's good enough for me, at least for now. No clue what kind of glass.

After trying a few different coils, I ended up with a simple micro coil in my immortalizer. 8 wraps on a 3/32" drill bit using 26 gauge kanthal, it came out to 0.7 ohms. I put the wick through the coil then pulled each end under to the other side. The extra wick helps catch anything that might hit the deck and is close enough to the coil that it will be vaped. Also it allows me, without change the wick, to vape e-juice so I only have to carry around one atty.

Just got an order from fasttech and I have successfully rebulit the bulb atomizer with readyxwick and a nr-r-nr wire. I have not tested it with oil yet but it fires. I will post some pics later. It is just like rebuilding a protank except the ceramic cup has two holes and an air hole that you put the wire through.

I also purchased thr cloupor m2 and I think I can rebuild it. Will update later.

Lastly you cannot rebuild the yozap.

Greetings gentlemen!
This was created with inspiration from gvape's coil and the entirety of this thread. The goal is to have the rxw sitting on the deck and soak up any reclaim that might drop off. So far it works pretty well. The coil flexed some after heating up though. The 4-strand twisted 34ga kanthal inside might be a bit too springy, but it's all I have at the moment. Also the rxw is tricky to work with without fraying the ends. That's a tugboat clone. Great thread guys. I look forward to more creations!
