Concentrates for Noobs - Q&A

Yes, even a little flex will make a significant difference for sure. Although, it would take a little more effort if it didn't flex and you would of course have to use Teflon or silicon tools, but it will still be way less effort than scraping.

I was reluctant about that dish you posted (its not the first time ive seen it posted either)

until the notice it may be "flexible" now I think its is a very strong possibility!

I think the dish if its flexible is worth the investment since it is specifically an evaporation dish!

I just needed it to be flexible.

I was the first to suggest it in this thread. I had never seen anyone use one before and found them so I figured I would share as anything that can make things safer and easier is a good thing for everyone imo.

I will let you know if its flexible although I am confident the freezer trick would work even if it isnt.

been with us since 2012 have you?

I haven't tried the beaker liners yet, but they are on my list. So far I have tried:

None of these were a clear improvement over scrapping Pyrex. In addition to the beaker liners, I'm looking into PTFE film. I also saw a post on another forum where someone was claiming that the company who makes the oil slick pads is making a new product called the Slick Sheet. I have no idea if this is true, but hopefully it is, and they will use PTFE instead of silicon.

lolz, sorry guys, wow posts asking me to share from back in June! Jeez my notifications fucked up lol.

I am unable to share my tech due to patent pending type stuff. Sorry everyone!

Those PTFE jars look nice though, do they make a dish like that, same diameter/size as the usual round pyrex pie dish?

Lmao @NickDlow

@herbivore21 I think the biggest is a little over 5 inches in diameter IIRC. I actually like that since every hot plate I've used as you to the outer edge you start to lose heat.
set it on something that has high thermal storage mass like a few ceramic tiles or a hunk of metal. this will help to stablize the temprature varience. typically you see a lot of temp flux and loss when there isnt enough thermal mass to compensate for the element kicking on and off... a thin top plate usually cools fast enough that it cools below optimal temp and them ramps up to over your optimal temp to recover lost heat. this causes a potential scorch and cool situation in some circumstances... had it happen with a thin bottom ss vacuum chamber. it scorched my slickpad ...

so thicker is better and more stable and only requires some pre heating.

Completely agree with what @farscaper is saying. I had mentioned the size and plate stuff since I'm pretty sure not too many people have the hot plate I have and I did have that issue with the induction cooktop I used to use. I've noticed that with my lab hot plate, only the extreme edges aren't the same temp as the rest of the plate...makes sense since my plate material is ceramic :D

the scientific hotplates are designed to be thermally stable. I should have gotten one of them instead of an induction cooktop, but it was toooo late. I doubt this thing will last forever.. (the cooktop). or if the evap box thread culminates in its need then ill have to get one! lol

Bro, you know where to go to find one when it's needed...got mine on the bay for just a little more than you paid for your NuWave(hindsight, I should have just bought both of them and just sent one to you and you could have just made little payments to me for it), but I have seen really good used one's on websites as well. It has made a big difference in my tek (biggest being time savings as it heats fast and temp control is outstanding. Unfortunately, I can't find any used probes for mine at this time...I'll have to pay the $98 for the cheapest stainless steel one they have for it (I would think that's all I need...the boro glass probes are for high temp things and cost almost $200 each) but once I have it, controlling the temps of the solution is going to pretty much brainless set and forget it.
Edit: I just did a quick search on the bay for "lab hot plates" and found this monster...this would be for you guys who do really big runs...(not super cheap though @

There are smaller ones for less and there are some really foul looking ones there (most claim they still work).

I have an idea and I would like to know what you think. I wash my solo stem in the same travel tube filled with iso for the last 2 months. I thought adding this iso to my second wash to give it more couch lock power..

Why not - perhaps it appears dirty/grungy/foul - :leaf: well, it ain't - add it to anything you wish :2c: - you'll only wish you added more!

I received my 2 rolls of slick sheet today, I have an order in with eplastics for ptfe sheet sizes at 12"Lx12"Wx.093"T, 12"Lx12"Wx.06"T, and 12"Lx12"Wx.04"T. I also decided to grab a 400ml ptfe evap dish 5.12"Dx1.42"H and a 400ml ptfe evap bowl hoping to consolidate the concentrates a bit. Hopefully this covers the spectrum of ptfe lol I'll let u guys know how they are when I recieve them all and test them but this may take a bit so bare with me please

I cant wait for pictures @NickDlow

Definitely interested in the PTFE stuff.
I did a run today starting with 14g of Sour Purple Diesel. My tek was slightly different today and with stellar results. I blasted my BHO into a folded 10 micron SS screen, this acted as a second filter. It was a bit messy and I did reclaim the screen with some KX so there would be no loss. But the clarity may be worth the extra effort. The 10 micron was just too stiff to clamp onto my tube. Again only 1/2 can of Capital to extract 14g.
Results : 3.6g of clean clear sunshine.
Here's the starting flowers.

Definitely not Tane bubbles.

I spend so much time looking at all these strains and wondering what they would taste like! I envy you Americans a lot! I am dabbing the last of my bubble shatter now, gonna have to do a run soon!

I just dabbed with my Luke Wilson 15 arm tree rig for the first time in ages. I have noticed that the much bigger can lets you suck through a hit super quickly! Less flavour but damn does it hit hard!

PTFE UPDATE**
All the ptfe materials have shipped and should be here by the middle of next week.

By then I should be running low on my concentrates and I'll be doing another run. Not sure of the strain yet or if I want to try bho with the capital tane, another KX run, or dare I say try my first 99% QWISO ... @DieHard So ur tube is copper with screens layered within the tube? Any chance for a pic? I just can't picture it in my head. Then u blast into the 10 micron? How do u wash it in the KX? It seems like there is always good stuff left on my screen but I just always toss it. It would be nice to do something with it.

I will take a pic later. The tube is 3/4"x12". There are 2 copper end caps on it. One end has a small hole drilled for the Tane nozzle.(nice tight fit). The other end cap has about a 3/8"-1/2" hole drilled into it and then about 4-5 screens (like smoking screens) inside the cap. Then my 25 micron gets clamped onto the outside of the tube. It should be noted that when using a copper tube, you must make sure that there is no oxidation inside. It has to be kept clean and shiny.
Edit: as for the KX rinse. I set the screen in the bamboo frame and just poured it through the screen. Kind of wasteful, but I did get .4 from the screen and dish.

Agreed ur results always leave me drooling  I still can't bresk 20% nd that's pretty aggravating lol I don't think I've seen u get less 20% yet. Your bud must be crazy good because our tek isn't too far off. Either way bravo bro

I just ordered the Chemware 400ml PTFE evap dish from amazon...last one...and in the same order I got the 6" stainless steel immersion probe for my hotplate so it can control the temperature of the extracted liquid :D
Need to help mom with property taxes in a few weeks, but when I get a decent chunk of change (Xmas) I will be considering the rotovape from Joyfay http://www.joyfay.com/lab-life-scie...porator-re52c-0-25-2l-vertical-condenser.html

Since I have a lab grade hotplate already, that will be the heating element for a water bath and just use a pot. I will then have to figure out what the best vacuum and chiller will be for it (@farscaper has already told me that an aquarium chiller would work fine for this and be cost effective)...give me some ideas guys.

chllers are rated in horsepower. since you wont be using it all the time you could also consider using a dryice bath but regular use makes thst expensive and if its difficult to aquire dry ice is out of the question.

if nothing else you can go with a smaller 1/4 or I think they go as small as 1/10hp but remember the bigger the chiller the less work it has to do.

if you got a big chiller you could probaby run a simple inline pump strait to the chiller and not need a res tank. with a smaller chiller itvmay be easier to attach the chiller to a submersible water pump and cycle the larger body of water making less work for a smaller chiller.

or you could look into liquid nitrogen. which is the most efficient. lol but difficult level up achieved!

so bummed I havnt been able to grab any ptfe to play with. looks like I will be waiting on that dish a min for results from here. I think @NickDlow got a ptfe evap dish... so waiting results for sure... course im anxious for butane results.
