The HI

exit

I sent back my HI for repairs since it wasn't heating but noticed the SS HI i got for my friend is doing the same thing!

Does anyone have problems with using a HI without a VK? I have a couple power supplies which output between 11.5 and 12.5v but no VVPS to use it with. I really want to know if the VVPS helps or if anyone else has issues with using a HI directly from a wall wart.

i would test it with my car's power but it has a tendency to push around 15v out of the 12v port so i would be hesitant to plug the HI into that.

ps. i still havent figured out the wine cork tubes! i open it up and pack a little weed in there and close it up but just get wisps? it stays green. i must be doing something wrong?

I'm well into my 3rd month with these products (Glass and SS); and have had no problems with either unit; ingesting direct with the supplied wall wart...(Further) I've found the wine cork tube to be the most efficient (I load .06 gms. loosely packed). Please note that (from my experience) there appears to be a moderate to semi-steep learning curve associated with these devices... Practice and be patient; and I can assure you that you won't be disappointed. I hope this helps.

I never tried my glasscore without the VK. However I was using the same PSU for another logvape without VVPS and never got any problem. So I don't know.. Maybe try another PSU ?

About winecork tube : i've written about how I use it. If I'm using it with both chambers, I'll crank the voltage a bit. This is good for slow roasting, flavor and comfort : you don't have to hold the HI in your hand and it can sit on the WCT.

However I mostly use the WCT with one chamber only, putting the glass core just at the top of the glass tube (holding it so). This bring the heater just a bit closer then in full configuration and make roasting faster and hotter ! I'm generally at around 12v... Sometime a bit above (12.20 at max or .50 for hash) or a bit under if I want more control. But generally I find the glasscore to be really forgiving mistakse in combustion occurring (never happened). So try to get closer and see ;) My abv is always golden-light brown or dark-brown if it's a big load and higher voltage. Haaaa yeah : try to put a bit more of a load, this could help get more vapor as well.

Since you have problem with SS as well I would try another PSU, then check with Alan. Good luck !

exit, there must be user error. The HI is so simply made, it's almost impossible for it not to work. It should work with fixed as well as vvps. Since you already sent it back, no way to assist you. I fear you have sent your unit away unnecessarily.

It should work but I am a little disappointed I have not been able to use them because my glass core used to heat off this psu for a week or two, now I can't get either to heat and I wasn't sure if or how getting a vvps would fix the situation, and if it would, why the power from a vvps works and fixed wouldn't?

It probably is the psu but I am wondering why power from a vvps would be able to power it whereas a 12v wall wart wouldn't. My concern is that it was able to power my glass core for about 45 minutes and then stop heating entirely while it still pulled voltage according to my multimeter.

I'm not trying to be a downer, I just haven't got to play with my HI and I want to be sure why it isn't working off the power supplies I have before I send the other to my friend in Netherlands.

I would hate for you to take my complaining as Hi bashing as it's a vape I love very much but I can't get it to run reliably like everyone else here and it basically comes down to, has anyone else experienced my symptoms when using the Hi without a VVPS because it is pulling the proper amount of power.

Same as you, I don't know why a vvps would make it better other than giving a higher constant voltage benefit. Try from another wall plug or home ? I think I've read that peoples were getting different result from different places.

Did you had the chance to try a vvps already ?
Try with that 12.5V psu and see how long does it keep heat and from different places if possible.
I'm sure you'll find your Hi way !

exit, I'm not taking it for bashing. I've been in your shoes before. It seems like everything is going wrong. Well, you Sent them away. That's ok. Alan will go over them nonetheless. Now, you should prepare. Get a vvps. I promise you, it's 100% better to see the volts and put it where you want it. I've probably posted 2 or 3 times in this thread where I got mine. I know you think it wasn't the power source or sources, but I have to say it was. :leaf:

I'm willing to bet it is the power source. As much as i love electricity and fancy myself a hobby electrician it still baffles me sometimes. thanks so much for the help everyone though. looking forward to being ready for my HI journey.

exit, have you checked the output voltage of your wall wart with a voltmeter??

yes and they all push between 11.5 and 13

Alan wrote back to me and got
my HI all tested up. The culprit actually has to be my houses power. I took my Other HI with all my power supplies to a friends house and heated no issues with all. I thought testing with 3 different 12v psu's would negate any variables but just goes to show that you definitely do need a VVPS with your HI for a reliable experience :) not to mention I would be happy to run it colder.

I also have been increasingly a fan of the turbo tube! I was very skeptical of a silicone bowl at first but the 1 hitter quitter hits speak for them selves. Turns the whole bowl brown almost instantly. I'm loving my turbo tubes both with the Hi and nano :)

The wait....is almost killing me...... wait..... it must be part of the Jed-Hi training.....
Basic test to see if you're worthy of starting the training actually.

At the same time it feels a bit like waiting without complaining outside the door dressed in black until being told to get inside. I've sent the email a few months ago only but I'm being patient because I know soon I'll be making soap! But shhhh remember, the first rule is you don't talk about the HI club.

Does anyone know what the expected waiting time might be if someone tried to order a HI now? I'm just looking for rough estimates. Thanks.

If I can't get a HI, then I guess I'll go with the E-nano. I would've preferred the Underdog over the E-nano, but I don't like how it has to warm up for 20-30 minutes beforehand.

bit over a year seems to be the standard
you'll want a VVPS too like a VK, but the wait for those can be quite a while too!

Thanks a lot for telling me! I would've never guessed it would take that long. I was hoping to get a vape this month, so it looks like I'll just stick with one of the others for now.

The HI is a one man show with a very long waiting line. I bought and sold many vapes while waiting for my HI but I'm glad I got on the list when I did. I just wish my vvps would show up so I could get back to using it :)

Re the Underdog - I don't think you really need to pre-heat for that long. If in more of a hurry, you can start at a high voltage and tune it down to your preferred range after just a few minutes. Someone may correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, but you can email Alan to get on the wait list, and see if he has any spare older model HI's left to sell you. If he does, they'll still be well worth it I'm sure.

And yeah, especially if you get a small, thinner twig style underdog, heat up is more like 12min on average

I agree. The original hi core works great.it may even get a little hotter than the new models.variables including wood density determine heat produced.
the newer cores are favourable, improved and more robust.the power jack in the original version has a habit of popping out on occasion.no biggie it slides straight back in.the new core power socket is integrated and solves that problem.

With the new models The metal core can easily be removed to clean and soak although I don't recommend that for the first model 2 units with Alan's flower of life aluminium baseplate, just because of ISO and aluminium don't mix.i think the newer versions of model 2 use a ss washer to secure the heater core.i have a habit of tipping essential oil into my core on occasion and it's nice to be able to clean that out Before it burns.its harder to clean version 1 Hi because the heater core tube is fixed.i only remove the core on the newer models when really necessary.the screws are threaded into the wood surround and will strip if over tighten so go gentle.

My original core Hi is almost two years old now and is on most of the time.definitely every day.it works flawlessly.

it is what it is..first time I saw Alan's work and the precision and perfection of all the pieces that make up the Hi made me look at woodcraft and metalwork in a whole new way.he is the Guru.:science:

The hi is worth the wait.clean, organic, no glues or unsavoury components and cutting edge design refinements and upgrades to the original log vape the eterra that started out maybe 30 years ago.

I'm spoiled with the HI and you will be too.its hard finding a vape that compares to it once you've had a play with it.it continues to work and work,no electronics to go wrong, just constant service and the purest vapor out of all my vapes, followed by the Vaponic and gnome slider at a guess.
Alan makes larger stainless tipped tubes that slide over the hi core.ive never used anything else.it can be packed and hit or left in between hits.it also is a great design for constant medication.the metal ended stems can be dropped and dropped with no issue.the smaller 5/16 tips are great for conservation but need to be packed loose enough to allow good airflow.a good addition nonetheless.i would also order the 14mm glass gong for flavour.
Vas lights up here on the HI thread a lot and it's not surprising..the year wait is nothing after you ve received the hisaber....the tool of the jedhi.

good luck to all the folks waiting in line and much love to the fellow jedhis who are right now travelling through space and time:haw:

Oh and don't forget this guy @VoltageKeeper ...A really great VVPS.the HI on 12v is hot .turning it down to 11v will allow you to enter flavour city and puts a lot less stress on the heater which may extend the life of the HI.i turn voltage down in between hits.give Voltage keeper some time too.he like Alan makes his art from scratch.
