Discontinued The Herbalizer

lazylathe

Almost there...
Thanks Sticks. I am absolutely hooked on the heat up/down time. It's just after using the cloud and nano that I'm used to a fairly clean air path and I can still detect some plasticky odour although it has greatly improved. This definitely comes from the unit. Other than that, it works flawlessly. I don't understand how the screens get dirty, a quick brush and they are still completely clean after putting it through its paces.

The cool grips, what for? They attracted dirt (like the stock tubing) And I used the bowl without the grips. Not even warm really.

Attaching the herbie with whip to glass I wasn't stoked on. But I'll try again. Just hate hot air running through the tubing. Especially when it kinda warps, and flavour isn't the same. Pretty sure only the HT and adapter will be my way to go but again I vape standing up in my kitchen near exhaust fan so it will be a pain to bend down.

One day there will be a Herbie to invert on to glass the size of a cube. One day. Lol

I will make you a silicone adapter and lend you the HT again for testing!
Works so easy and hits like a beast!

As for the screens i am the same as you, mine do not get dirty unless i put some oil in with the bub and it touches the screen.
Otherwise a brush after emptying the bowl and they are good to go again.

Thanks bro, it's going to be a weird feeling after the classifieds Swagger fiasco I just went through. Just about to continue some more testing on the Herbie!

Can anyone chime in on the bags? Can we make our own with the green valves? Looks possible, i've tried with just a cut soiled bag but I can't test it.

@biohacker -- Take your log vape gong stem and get a small piece of tubing that fits over the non-gong end and then push that over the top of the Herbie bowl. The log vape stem is probably 14mm, so if you get a 18 to 14 adapter you could hook your HT right up to it with no tubing in the path. That's what I do. The gong I use is a shorty that came with my POD. I've got a pic of this setup in this thread twice.

The cost is about $8ish with shipping and if the valves are taken care of there are no problems. Just make sure you peel off the yellow tape around the bag and reuse it. You will see what I mean when you take a bag apart. It is very simple and I have been doing it from when I first ran out of new bags in February.

Thanks again Sticks, believe me I thought of that but the 7th floor tubing won't fit over it. No worries though as my brotha @lazylathe is hooking me up!

Really...I didn't think it was reusable. How do you do this exactly? The stock bags are like sealed in a specific shape...but if you say it's easy lol

@stickstones I just made a direct draw using upside dow Solo stem into 3/8 in tubing. Thanks for the tip! Its a nice simple mod. I have about half inch gap between the Solo stem and bowl, so it is flexible/dynamic and can be bent/hit on a slight angle. The only other time I did direct draw was my lips direct on the bowl.:o

I think direct draw with short glass stem is the most flavorable inhalation method with Herbie! And this is coming from a strain that I don't really care for usually. The Herbalizer continues to impress me.

@biohacker

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-herbalizer.9116/page-126#post-601288 instead of the yellow tape cut and twist a thing, long piece of old Herbie bag into a a string and tie with that. Think closing the end of a volcano a bag. The volcanonbahs come with an extra strip to tie the bags.

I have tested 3 NIB Herbie's. All exhibited slight smell/taste that went away shortly. I consider myself to have a very very good sense of smell. Also, don't stick with 445*F all day everyday. I just got done using the whip @445*F for a few weeks. It will not give you the best flavor @445*F. I really like @Vitolo method of setting the temp to 445*F then turn down to 377ish°F when its time to rip it. Great combination of clouds, flavor, and effects.

I would encourage you to use different innhaltion methods at different temps to get the most out of Herbie. The whip wasn't doing it for me anymore, so I filled some bags. After two bowls I was drooling. Each inhalation method gives a different Vape signature. My tolerance is super high. Didn't even think Herbie was going to do anything just now. Two bowls of flower from the direct draw and I'm high school high.

Thanks @Been Vapin ! I now am only smelling "heat" I think...otherwise the plastic smell is extremely faint. I don't think it's affecting taste. The stock tubing forsure I can smell and taste, but I haven't done a long ISO soak...is it even advisable? Do you really think it will help? I have a feeling it is simply the material it is made from, but regardless I prefer the more open 7th floor tubing and direct bowl connection.

So i'm fairly medicated after doing some testing with my Herbie, Cloud+, and E-Nano....talk about rotating vapes and a couple of different strains...wow! I used a 1/8th teaspoon (didn't bother weighing) but the point is more so it's consistent across all 3 devices.

Mated with my glass medium sized china birdcage bubbler, with the Herbie on max temp I used a 8" length tubing...result (no fan assist) medium sized blue clouds, extracted fully after several whispy hits. ABV light brown with some green flecks.

Same size load same strain in the E-Nano on temp 6.25, first hit massive dense cloud near smoke like but not, still greenish abv, 2nd hit medium sized cloud, ABV light-med. brown.

Same size load same strain in the Cloud+ at 12:00, toasted to med. brown ABV after 1 massive dense cloud near smoke like but not.

Overall, I liked the Herbie last mated with glass, regardless of the length of tubing I used. The Cloud+ and E-Nano are simply designed for glass more, but even with an airtight connection, I couldn't whitewall the same strains with the Herbie. I know the fan assist helps greatly with this, but is also harsh on the lungs. I also found the Herbie to be the harshest of all 3 on max temp, for obvious reasons. But this is what is needed to roast the ABV to at least light brown. I know it's different when you ramp up the temps from low to high, and ABV can be much darker, or with larger loads.

Just before I was going to end it for the night, I decided to do a few more runs just with the tubing dry no water piece. I dialed back the temp....(still don't understand vito's thing about ramping temp up then down, if the temp is 200c, should it not matter if it was 225c previously since it's cooled down?) and ripped it fairly hard and was pleasantly surprised with flavour that I wasnt getting at Max temp as expected! Rookie mistake! Doh! So they I ramped up and was surprised how much longer the session lastest and I actually didn't mind the whip for that particular session and taste as well. I'll have to do some more testing with it dry.

So far i'm concluding that I wonder if maybe I should just leave the water aside with this particular vape and leave the glass for the nano, cloud, and solo. The Herbie actually irritates and bothers me at its higher temps through water, maybe because I always take monster hits lol. But with the whip it really does feel so smooth and silky, and the vapour quality and colour can't be matched. I need more time, but i'm warming up to it, i think i just need to get the best quality whips on the planet, and a bunch of replacement bags.

I discovered that the vapor brothers mini-whip is a direct replacement for the stock whip, in the respect that it fits the mouthpiece and bowl adapter exactly, the storage compartment is another story however because this whip is stiffer than stock. It comes with a glass mouthpiece and a whip that many ssv users are fond of.

Since everyone is posting their mods here is my tweak to the Hydratube adapter. I used a Magic Flight 14mm to 18mm fitter which was only ten dollars. Add in another 2 bucks for some sticky tack (Loctite) and you have a pretty nice adapter. Luckily I have two magnetic bowls so I keep one permanently for whips and the other as a glass adapter. This mounts perfectly.

The last picture is how I really smooth out the hits and reclaim by using hemp fiber. I have more detailed posts in the cotton filter thread showing how to get awesome reclaim and keep your glass clean much longer (win win). I use the hemp fiber to capture the harsher vapor and get these beautiful honey droplets that form on the fibers.

That's awesome! (both of the posts above)... just wanted to chime in after a nice 6hr coma slumber post that fun testing last night lol

So I realized that perhaps my observations with the whip are not fair since i've been exclusively using the 7th floor tubing. The bigger tubing could perhaps explain some of the irritation when using the water tool, as well as lack of whitewall? Maybe i'll give the stock tubing a chance since that diameter is what the unit was Designed for i suppose?

Edit. Tried the solo stem with a 1/2" of tubing to the bowl. Holy crap that vapour is hot! My lips got pretty toasty even at moderate temp lol. I much prefer my dry stem nano compared to this method, better flavour and bigger thicker clouds. Very similar abv.

Tonight I test the bag again!

The problem I have with the stock whip is I keep my herbie a bit higher than I sit and that limp silicon just flops over pinching itself completely blocking the air flow. I either have to hold it one handed in a very particular position or use two hands. Would I have the same problem with this whip?

Not at all; this whip is the opposite, it's thicker-walled and stiffer so the issue becomes storing it. I didn't use it with herbie, but I did test it for size and it fits perfect -- but probably not with the lid closed.

So last night my brotha from another mutha @lazylathe made the 90 minute drive up to my place and brought me some new toys to try out with my Herbie before I made my final verdict on keeping it or not. I am happy to say that i'm REALLY happy he came and showed me the light! All it took was an inexpensive homemade DIY silicone adapter that he made for me (as described above previously) and a straight neck HT (Limited Edition Swagger, such a beauty, and kinda heartbreaking after my Classifieds LE Swagger HT debacle).

All I can say is WOW! Fuck the whips! That flavour is something else....and as obvious as it was, for some reason I never realized that my grinder was too coarse and it was affecting my cloudage and medicine. @lazylathe pointed this out quickly, grinded down a bit finer and POW! MONSTER DRAGON CLOUDS!

I'm happy that I also wasnt the only one that could taste the chemicals in the stock tubing...but interestingly enough, his don't have the same taste/odour. Are there maybe different batches of tubing? Is there a tolerance for ISO soak? I did an overnight soak, and I hope it wasn't too much, but the taste/odour were much stronger when it was newer. Regardless, I feel the stock tubing is too restricted anyway, and won't be using tubing practically ever. I can definitely appreciate the bags for concentrates, especially the Pharmabee Holy Grail shatter that @lazylathe brought over! OMFG! Flavour and effect alright!

My opinion of the Herbie has completely changed again (I swear i'm bipolar)...I always worshiped the unit itself, it was the delivery that I had a hard time with coming from a VXL and inverted Nano on bubbler background. Now with a HT, it's back to being a glass game for me....and that's the way I like it!

@lazylathe also left his EVO with me for a while....so if anyone is interested, i'll be documenting my journey in that thread..

Huge props to @lazylathe again for being such an awesome bro! That was quite the marathon session with the Herbie, Cloud+, EVO, and Nano! I can't remember the last time I was THAT medicated. It's like there was no such thing as tolerance! lol

Tonight I confirmed what I always suspected. This may have been covered in this thread but I never remember reading it. I had been comparing the EVO to the Herbie for weeks now to see which one I liked best. I finally concluded tonight that the Herbie is my favorite and I believe the reason is because the more pure convection extraction gives me the best *medicated state* with the clearest mental state. I remove my magnetic bowl between every hit and turn it upside down so that the bottom screens heat does not conduct onto my herb as much. I think this is the purest convection process available now with extremely precise temperature but you have to remove the magnetic bowl between hits which is easy. The EVO is harder to remove the ELB so I just let it sit there. There seems to be far more metal surface area to herb using an ELB vs a magnetic bowl and metal readiates heat which means greater conduction.

To summarize if I remove the magnetic bowl between hits I get the smoothest convection only hits that leave me euphoric :)

@John Lewus I couldn't agree with your more! Every single word. Absolutely, PURE convection and I know that medicated state you are alluding to. It's like your head is still clear, but the entire body is tingling! lol

I too always remove the bowl every time as to not have vapour escape into the environment, but also for more convection like you say. Great point on inverting the bowl as to cut off heating. And you're right, the EVO gives a bit more conduction, which also assists in cloud formation. The Herbie although it can billow dense clouds, typically has lighter more convective clouds. The Herbie and EVO are both one of a kind...I don't have a favourite (yet) but I plan to do alot of testing, because I need to figure out if I need an EVO of my own down the road.

Getting excited to test, but it's not even 6am yet, so I figure I should at least wait until then LOL

I can't believe how stoked I am on the Herbie again!

glad to hear it , bio...

@John Lewus -- I had the bend over problem with my tubing even when using the thick stuff that I was hoovering on. It wasn't as bad with the thicker tubing, but when you really suck on it the heat transfers quickly and will soften any whip on there. I haven't done it yet, but the best thing I saw was someone putting a short portion of tubing over the stock tubing to keep it standing straight up.

@vape4doc -- search this thread for my posts with pics of my setup (there are many others as well). But every setup is different and is dependent on what you have lying around.

Man oh man...this didn't take long, and I made this conclusion already hours ago, but this is the best vaporizer I have ever used out of dozens. My vapexhale days are over...still a fan at heart, but this vaporizer is a complete game changer. Thanks again @lazylathe for the adapter piece, and lending me your precious Swagger....you have helped completely change my vaping experience forever!

I took the lid off of my Herbie....i like it better this way, just like my bowl is naked (no cool grips).

Thanks. I'll have a look. I have *nothing* laying around though so some pointers on the best place to start would be cool too. :)

Try a foot and a half piece! It will close, and you may like the closer hit if vaping alone.

I agree that the more hot air that can freely go passed the meds in the convection arena you have arranged, the more pleasant the medicated state.

That's un-natural.
"liking it" that way is blasphemous.
Naked bowl is naughty!
