Same here. I have to really JAM the button. To the point where it feels like I am forcing parts to bind.

Use it. Get it warm. Take off the shields. When its cooled enough to touch comfortably, take it apart. Unscrew the knurled nut pull off the airflow washer if you use it, and push the rod inside the herc. Use a tooth pick to push it through. Sometimes a toothpick wil get the coil out, sometimes a dental pick like tool helps. Hook inside where the rod used to sit, and gently pull. If it doesnt unseat easily try another place or method. Its not too hard....

Try ISO soaking it then pushing the coil out with a small paperclip through the 3 air holes on the bottom. Just keep going around, poking all 3 air flow holes.
That should work it out of there slowly.
Then the rod should pull right out.

I have had the most no-fires with the Core using my Hammer top. For some reason my Top is incredibly sensitive when used on the core. I think the issue for me is with the different shaped contact the Core inserts have that touches the center post on the Top. The fix for me is to unscrew the bottom DC plug adapter out of the tube, and then thread it back in gently... This seems to re-seat the spring loaded contact on the core with the top a little better. If it doesn't fix it then I unscrew it and screw it back in partially. It's sort of accomplishing the same thing that @Patrick Hughes said, but I personally have much better luck unscrewing the core insert, rather than the Top.

Your mileage may vary
I have BENDER and flavor wise it' blows away most vaporizers!
Do you think the core is the right pairing for a BENDER?
I have 18350's how ever I'm sick of batteries!
The CORE makes sense!

I love batteries but I have a long commute in the morning and 1 18650 is not enough juice to power the herc for the whole ride (I really only like the performance with the battery at 4.2 - 3.9 v, so I don't get more than 12 or 15 rips before I have to change). The core is an incredible travelling companion. I most often use batteries at home when it's easy to swap, and when I am out on foot with no outlet. If I am going to be stationary though - core!
Not only is it less of a hassle, the core delivers performance that does not degrade (power level does not go down like battery) but you can fine tune with the voltage adjustment so I can always have the perfornance of a not quite fully charged battery which I like best.

The core is nearly a must have and particulalry for the Bender. The Bender by nature kills batteries. Stacked 18350s don't last long, two 18500s is nearly manageable and provides good power, and two 18650s provides good power but the baton is stupid long.

I like the Hammer top for the Bender and use it with the 18350 core insert to make it a little shorter, easier to hold, and with unlimited adjustable power. I like turning down the voltage after starting a session so far, but am very much still learning how to use the Bending unit.

same. when the 8 and the herc are paired, i get very light hits. slow heat up. couldn't burn the oil if i held the button down for an hour. if i change the head back to the Persei on the same battery/tube set up, the herc fires like a dragon. 3-4seconds to full heat up. i have taken the 8 apart and cleaned and set up 20 times. if i push the button hard i'll get a slow heat up. the 8 can handle my Kanger ProTank only. essentially it makes the 74 white rod operate like the black one. so back to the persei for me until someone figures out why only half the power is being delivered. my 8 will be a baller ass ecig for now.

i love the 74x upgrade. if anyone is debating it, stop. just get it. makes the herc so much better, which i thought was impossible.

What tube set up do you use for x2 18500?

SAAAAAAAME. I definitely had not at all been getting the expected performance out of the 8. hits were taking a very long time to heat up. On my persei I have to feather my button non stop on my sr71. On the 8 I could ride the button all day.

HOWEVER: While disassembling and reassembling it on my break, i noticed that one of the o rings on my bottom pin appeared to be sheared in half for more than half of the circumference and when inserting the rod into the PTFE it would peel back a bit, i think this was causing my pin to become unseated over time and not make a good connection overall. I played with it with my thumb a bit and it seems like it was actually just extra material or maybe even a whole 2nd o ring got stuck somehow. I ripped it off and the pin reinserted much easier and felt more solid. The button SEEMS to not require me to jam the shit out of it anymore, and i THINK im getting better heat up times, but i was only able to hit it 2 or 3 times and my batteries are not fresh. I will update after lunch

^^this sounds like good news. Keep us updated.

I looked into my bottom pin and sure enough I have a deformed o ring. The top one. @itschad is correct. look like there is excess "flash" from the factory causing the pin to unseat. I took my off and I am getting good results so far. I will report back to see if this is the fix.

On the subject of 8, Me too, not much luck, have to mash button to get anything, & then not consistent. Works, then doesn't. Gonna take apart tonight, already tightened gold contact screw in button. I'll keep u updated as I go. :ugh:

I was just about to order the Bender but it's out of stock and I need it for Monday.

How tricky is it to use the Herc (71) with flower? Since the material would be making contact with the rod, is it really easy to combust?

I'm about to order either the persei or the 8. I was set on getting the 8, but seems like people are having problems with it. :( . Are there any people who's new 8 worked flawlessly? I may just go back to the initial plan of getting the persei if this is a common problem.

I'm definitely having better results as far as heat up time goes, but it's definitely not consistent. The top o ring on my bottom pin is starting to tear. maybe ill have better results when that happens. Also, i feel like there is too much play in how the button can rotate even once the pins are inserted. I definitely notice a very large variance in how it operates with just slight wiggles of the button clockwise or counter

even with the difficulties its worth getting just for once it is fixed if you ask me. maybe thats just the $85 price point talking

i'm sure the issues some of us are having is a simple fix that we are not seeing. the 8 feels so awesome to hold. it's really solid. it's a brand new product gotta expect some hiccups. my persei has been through hell and back and it's always fired up when i wanted. that being said, i'd wait for Gary to investigate and resolve the issue and get the 8.

If I do buy the 8. I'll also have to get batteries and a charger correct? I am planning on getting the sr74 as well, so what else would I need to get that to work good. I see other people running this same setup.

the 8 + 2x 18350's (4x if you want a spare set, similar if you want 18650's) + the nitecore charger i4 or whatever

Yeah, I'm going to get a spare set also. What's the difference between the 18650's and the 18350? I read the the 18650 were needed so you could use the Herc sr74. Is this not the case with the new 8?

size, battery life. you need 2 of the same size. if youre goign to use 2x 18650's you'll need an additional body tube as well
