questions about shatter vs oil

Hello Community,

I'm new to this forum, and also a beginner artist. I have been reading over this process on your site and others for about a year. I thought it would be more difficult but that is a really simple process. I made some nice shatter. The problem i find with it, is that it is rock hard. Smokes great, completely clear. I believe i know what the cause of it was, but i would like to hear from you guys.

My initial purge was at a constant temp of around 140 for about 30 min. I was only running a 1/2o, so it was a pretty thin layer that went away quite quickly after heating the pyrex to 150 and letting it cool to about 130. I brought inside and put it on a double broiler but the temp was at about 160/170. I believe this was the cause. But that was the lowest temp it could be on.

Dont tell me to get a vac chamber, as i know how much better they make your life. But maybe some easy alternatives?

I don't get where the shatter vs oil question is lol but I agree don't exceed 110 degrees. If it's BHO get a vac chamber lol even tho u don't want to hear it lol if not try whipping it on temps around 100 that's should produce crumble an eliminate the tane. (it has in the past for me I perfed shatter or a taffy consistency)

This stuff i made is completely hard at room temps. When i break it, tiny shards break off into a kind of dust like material. Not easy to smoke at all. I don't want to make this. I want to make a slightly gooier consistency. That is my question. Hard vs soft didn't sound very technical.

Or get a candle warmer and a small slick pad...place slick pad on candle warmer and shatter on slick pad...it will make it a bit more manageable.
