I just purchased a blank of Ramon burl from @Snappo. Its on its way to Alan right now. I cant wait to see what he makes for me! I know I'm probably at least 3 months away from getting 'the email'.

Waiting for my HI to be built is like waiting for a baby to be born. Lots of little things being purchased in the lead up to the big event. Next on the list is a vvps.

Well, I have decided to make my first post after lurking around the forums for about a year or so now. I have learned a lot from reading through the various threads and ended up deciding on getting a log vape and more specifically a HI. So I got on the list and my number has finally been drawn. I got some awesome buckeye burl from Snappo and I know Alan is great craftsman and will make some awesome HI’s out of it. I can’t wait to get them as this will be my first vape. I will also be picking up a VK when funds permit so I can maximize my experience with my new HIsaber. I am really glad I found this forum and probably should have posted sooner because there is an awesome community here, but I haven’t really had anything worth posting haha. I do have one question though, what is the general consensus on the best tubes for direct draw? I am looking at the all glass tubes, the plain glass tubes with SS tip, and the nylon tubes with SS tip. I am also looking at the nylon stems that Dave offers over at UD because they look like the stems from the PD and CRZ. Sorry for the long winded post I didn't think it would end up being so long. :peace:

Congrats! Snappo has some gorgeous wood but I just have a weakness for the buckeye burl, get such crazy figure in it. I will definitely be posting some pictures to show off Snappo's awesome find and Alan's wonderful craftsmanship.

I'm using Alan's cork on glass adapter with a bubbler, and I haven't hit it dry in quite a while.

i recommend getting a 14mm WonG with glass tip. they are long enough to use for direct draw as well as with water. it can be used with a siltubesor ss tip too!

I like the looks of wood as I really like the uniqueness of wood, the only reason I am kind of shying away from it is the fact that it can't be cleaned. That's why I like the nylon and glass tubes

I'm using Alan's cork on glass adapter with a bubbler, and I haven't hit it dry in quite a while.

Yea I don't have any glass or anything so I will be utilizing direct draw for a while. Can't decide if I want to invest in any glass or water filtration yet

Congrats! Welcome to the thread, I just joined the thread myself. I got on the list but just lurked, my number was drawn and I have wood from Snappo on the way to Alan as we speak. I was in your position not too long ago and you definitely made a great choice. There is an awesome community in this thread and Alan makes a great product. Plus what is better than being a JedHI becoming a master of the HIsaber?:peace:

Hey guys, I just had another member send me his HI (glass core) so I can knock out some accessories for it. Normally I'm a hardcore nano user but, this is definitely an attractive alternative. I only have the 12v power supply. What's a safe amount if time to have it plugged in for? I do not want to damage or ruin a members vape. Especially one that's as hard to get as a HI.
TIA

Well, I'm pretty sure you can leave it plugged in all day, but at 12v a glass core HI might be a little warm to the touch around the top after a while.

When I run my walnut glass core HI at 12v the top half is a bit warm to the touch.

So, AFAIK, it's perfectly safe, but the top half of the HI in question might be warmer than ideal.

I generally don't go above 11.35v on mine!

Yeah by then I'll have the dimensions locked down.

I'm very unfamiliar with the HI. Do the stock stems and gongs allow the unit to sit stationary on top? of them like a nano or are they just used old school log style where you draw the stem to the vape every hit or the vape to the gong every hit?

not sure what you mean...the turbo stem kinda locks onto the unit...the other stems you place them on hit and remove when done. the turbo stem has that silicone tubing on it so that locks it in place. a lot of people use silicone to lock the hi in place on gongs. Hope that helps.

Ok yes that's what I needed to know. The one I have didn't come with a stem or gong so I don't know how Alan intended for them to fit. Beyond this the only log I've ever used is my nano and it's different for sure.

Should you ever want to make a stem for a SS core: You don't need a SS core to make a glass stem for it, you just need a number. And that number is 9.5mm :)

Alan uses 10mm ID tubes for stems sometimes, if I'm not mistaken.
