Man! I wish I had that kind of guts. I have a look (my wife says) that even if I'm not angry I can come across as aggressive; deep set eyes, heavy brow, gruff voice, not sure what it is. I think if I said the same things as the people in the video I'd end up with a cavity search.

oh I hear ya. especially if you have anything related to our favorite oppressed plant on your person.

but I'm glad there are people like the guys in the video out there documenting the lawlessness of the federal government, DHS in particular. morbidly entertaining if nothing else

I'm sorry, but I've seen this video before and think it's a crime for folks to abuse their rights in such an immature manner.
The only outcome, if everyone started to take this attitude, would be for the laws be be amended to remove such actions from been taken. I really do not think the freedom we have been granted in this society should be abused in this manner as can lead to unwanted changes down the road.
Just my 2 cents.
However, it's cool to know that we do have those rights if we REALLY need to use them.

Have to disagree. If you're crossing from Mexico to the US we're talking about an international border and proving citizenship is completely justified and I believe you have to be compliant, courteous and quick to cooperate. The agents can then quickly move on to others and do what they're there for: catching terrorists, smugglers, human traffickers and illegal immigrants.

When you're talking about an internal border patrol checkpoint or a border between California and Arizona it's a completely different thing. Then you're detaining lawful citizens trying to travel within their own country in a misguided attempt to catch the people that slipped through our incredibly porous border. The stop I was at Sunday was 40 miles inside the US and I was traveling between two Arizona cities. I think it is an infringement of our fourth amendment rights protecting against unlawful search and seizure and peaceful resistance like in the video is not only justified but should be applauded.

EDIT: Our rights aren't granted by the feds. Americans are "endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights."

this post is going to get moved but these checkpoints are legally indefensible. just like sobriety checkpoints. total violation of your constitutional rights under the 4th amendment

But @Pipes doesn't our blind obedience to police search and questioning just lead to more abuse of power, No one should be or can legally be stopped or detained without probable cause in America. It always amazes me how Meek and Cowardly people become when someone with a badge starts asking 'em questions.

Those checkpoints were well within the US by 30 - 40 miles They are not border crossings where you need a passport or Visa but highways that connect American Cities. It's just seems strange in my mind that citizens would just throw away their Rights so easily. Knowing your rights are one thing but if your not brave enough to stand up for them, you'll lose them to the status quo legal or not.

In Australia we can refuse to have our car searched because it is our private property, but the bastards can still get you out of your car and shine flashlights at you and interrogate you like your a criminal just for sitting in your car smoking a joint..
I've refused questioning while drunk in town once and they didn't follow me or take it any further, just let me walk past, but they are more persistent with drivers.
I don't even have to show them my drivers license unless i've committed a crime but they always try to bend the rules and lie and trick you.. Fucking nazis.

Up here in the great white north, you can be detained for not showing "proper id". What ever they say proper id is at the time. When they read you the Miranda it states anything CAN and WILL be used you in a court of law. A skilled interrogator can make you stumble into a confession before you know it. Best to exercise you right to silence.
