Yes, I love anything portal, the songs especially. I liked your post while drinking out of my aperture science mug!

I really enjoy listening to all manners of music while I am stoned; music affects me in such an emotional way when I am enjoying the herb. Music rarely brings me to tears when I am sober, but the sheer beauty of some of my favourite songs is almost overpowering.

Ayreon is one of my favorites, the music is just so pure and perfect. It's a musical project by the genius Aryen Lucassen; a prodigal instrumentalist who writes and performs almost all the musical parts in his songs from his castle in Denmark. This gives the music a clarity of vision that just isn't present in a traditional band. His albums are all concept albums of the grandest scales, full of unique characters who are all performed by their own vocalist.

And these aren't just session musicians either; these are some of the most talented musician in the rock/metal genre. He's had Bruce Dickenson , Mikael Åkerfeldt , James LaBrie , Jørn Lande, Hansi Kürsch and Russel Allen (just to name a few) all perform characters in his music.

I highly recommend anyone who enjoys music like Rush, Dream Theater or just progressive music in general check out his material. My starting point was the album 01011001 and I was hooked instantly. Those who aren't really into progressive music in general might find the whole concept a little pretentious though.

Check these songs out if you are interested:

Comatose (01011001)
Dawn of a Million Souls (Universal Migrator Pt.2)
Day Eleven: "Love" (The Human Equation)
Day Sixteen: "Loser" (The Human Equation)

And of course, I can't go without mentioning my all time favourite - Dream Theater. There has not been a single Dream Theater album released that hasn't been totally awesome. My avatar is the cover to "Scene's From a Memory" to honour that amazing album as much as I can. And this song - it's my favourite but I have to be careful where I am when I am listening to it stoned because sometimes I just can't keep it together. Dream Theater really knows how to evoke an emotional reaction from the listener.

Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons

I can't even listen to Ministry of Lost Souls. I can't hear the instruments through my sobbing.
