It's been wayyyyyy too long. How can I pitch this to manufacturers that are active here?

And don't get on my case that I'm a contest junkie 'cause if you do, I'll fucking haiku you the fuck out. :goon:

You know, I was just thinking the other day that I should start a contest for the prototype Hydracirc that I won in a different contest from stonemonkey. I rarely use it, and I bet someone else could appreciate it more.

But I couldn't think of a good enough contest! I wanted something fun, all-inclusive, and original. And then I got drunk, stoned, and etc, and forgot about it.

I don't know if anyone would even want it though... And I'm more than happy to keep it as a trophy. :D

Here's an idea for a contest. Let me know if this sounds good.

Hand Me Downs

I have some old equipment, mostly glass. Some of it is well worn, but it would be perfect for someone on a budget or who just wants function and doesn't need pretty. I probably have enough to make a gold, silver, and bronze prize package.

Entering to be by writing a post about your most worn-out, busted, funky, or memorable hand-me-down, either giving one or receiving one. Those horrible Secret Santa and White Elephant trades are fair game also.

Judging would be by both mechanical and natural methods. A moderator using a random number generator to select 3 finalists. The posts of the finalists would be printed out and placed on my backyard lawn with a peanut on each printout. The first peanut stolen by squirrels wins first, second taken wins 2nd prize. I would document on video the squirrel's selections, to ensure integrity of the process.

What you all think?

I thought that was how all of the FC conducted contests were decided. It always seemed to be a bit squirrely to me.

But I also think that to question a squirrel's integrity is a bit over the top, eh?

I got a question. What if the first peanut is stolen by a crow?..............

They're fairly impartial, but they can be bribed.

The squirrels in my trees are pretty territorial and militant. There was a huge war between the squirrels and crows (or ravens? they were big and black) over food earlier this summer. I gave the advantage to the birds with their flying, but the squirrels were tough, camouflaging themselves on the tree branches. Then when the birds would land, the squirrels would ninja attack. When the dust settled, there were a lot more bird feathers on the ground than there was squirrel fur.

Crows are really smart. Years ago, when my sons were really young, about 6 years old, one them came running into the house saying that a crow dropped a walnut on his head. Apparently, he was just laying down on his back looking up at the clouds when a crow dropped a walnut. I later found out that it's pretty typical of crows to take walnuts up about 50 feet or so and then drop them on asphalt or cement to break them open.

I also had squirrel who used to sit out on the edge of a branch and just torment my cat. That squirrel would just sit there and chatter at him. As soon as the cat would make a small move, the squirrel would vanish. The cat would then just sit back down and look up into the tree and that damn squirrel would then just reappear and climb out to the edge of the branch again, look down at cat and just chatter chatter at him while swishing his tail. This went on for hours. Drove the fucking cat nuts, and I have no doubt that the squirrel knew it.

The whole corvid family (magpies, blue/grayjays, ravens) are quite smart.
For example ravens will compete with each other for food when it is plentiful, but when food is
scarce in the dead of winter they are known to share which is extremely rare behavior.
