What a cute little vape. Like @Svstem just said, smaller than expected. Also heavier than expected, but lighter than my Cerae. I ordered black and got silver… and am actually glad for it. It matches my laptop. It's more handsome in person than in photos IMO.

For those just joining, this is one of PuffItUp's recently-on-sale woops-sold-out "open box/returned" Solos. It's got some superficial scratches, and the bottom plate came pre-chipped for me so I don't have to worry about that.

It came complete with both the bent and straight stems. No steel screens, but it seems like I could get by with chunks of unground herb in the stem as-is? Given the basic "glass screen" with four holes that they have built-in.

Feels a bit like I'm meeting a celebrity!

Hey, bro - You have! :rofl:Re the screens - if you have no headshop, yer outa luk, but if yes, u cn buy screens - just trim w/scissors (easy 2do) and yer G - I've been trimming the ones that I got w/SOLO in any case, 'cause I put my screen deep into the mouthpiece end of my stem (smaller); that permits me to grind & also allows a larger untamped load; also lets you collect more, cleaner condensate oil from the stem after a few months - and that's a special treat! :leaf: :2c:

I think you're the first guy to report a bent stem, cool. No real need for a screen IMO, not only can you run whole buds if you want, but even 'medium ground' very little of my goods makes it through those 4 little holes before they all get 'glued together'.

In the end many of us do run screens, mostly I think 'domed' up a bit to either reduce the load size (a lot) or just to keep the screen from fouling as fast (less dome). A dome also helps keep it in place when relaoding. I run 5/8 inch (small dome) and replace them as they foul saving the dirty ones in a small vial until there are enough of them to merit cleaning. Keeping the bud dry really holds down the fouling.

Anyway, when the time comes (sometimes when the last clean one is fouling.....) I hold them each by the edge with SS hemostats and use a small torch to 'nuke 'em until the glow'. I then brush the ash off (the screens cool in seconds) and put them in the clean vial. I blow them off and check for loose ends before putting them in service again. BTW brand new ones get torched before first use.

Anyway, congrats on the Solo, it's a solid vape for sure.

Soon, you too, will be 'doing the hamster'.......

- What R you missing? This is only my :2c: opinion, and perhaps you've tried & don't like, but PLEASE don't wash your screens! - there's a thread in here somewhere - but U can simply smoke the screen build-up - it's all pure, condensed (same as distilled) cannabinoid-loaded oil! especially nice if U trim the screen & insert deep in the stem-end - see above! :myday:

Also - thanx big-time for your advice - Bio says your all G!

I really don't think I'm missing much (but then how would I know for sure?). Not much I care about anyway. I like Solo for savoring my herb. Concentrates are something else, I have access to truly fine concentrates in local Dispensaries when that urge strikes. I generally don't do reclaim and definitely don't "simply smoke the screen build-up" or anything else for that matter. Vaping only for this boy.

I also don't wash screens, I flame them, entirely different. They're really not suitable for reclaim anyway, IMO as it's mostly fine ground herb plugging those little holes. If you keep the bud dry going in, there's no gummy buildup so that the condensate on the screen evaporates off again for the most part. That could no doubt vary with other techniques, but I sip heavily on loads through two 12 minute sessions each usually.

So thanks for the concern but I don't think I'm missing out on anything I would use and definitely don't wash screens. I wash the stems in PBW (the reclaim was 'sub wonderful' taste wise)......but you probably don't want to know about that.......

It's all good.

Thanks.

Not as thick, but thick enough for my standards....prolly 5mm i'm guessing. It's a great match, but for you personally based on what I have read and your throat issues, I would go with glass that has MORE diffusion or like @ataxian indicated, something with more volume. The birdcage perk bubbler from dhgate is a much better match for the EVO IMO and costs only a few bucks more. Hope this helps.
Yes this helps very much. I will check it out

Get some JHOOKS (SHERLOCKS), ASH COLLECTORS, PIPEDADDY's IMFAMOS BUBBLER, D020, PHVES GonG's, PHVES STEMS (BENT, CURVED or BOTH?) STOCK GonG's, CHILLUM TIPS. Try level {3;4;5} see what you like? I like the SOLO because it's perfect for my medication needs.
For recreational needs the taste is superior over combustion.

Time to test the @OF gizmo's!

I hope the SOLO is the right tool to get the job done?

Received the out of the box Solos today, the one for $55. Also it had free 2 day Priority Mail. It's the 2014 model. There's no chipping or cracking on the bottom plate. Possibly one of our FCer friends Solo that was sent back due to a faulty battery? I didn't have to pay sales tax either.

Just used up the last of some Skywalker Og. With the WT being pretty cheap through DHgate a person can afford to have more than one. If you break it, not the end of the world.

It's all good, the game's a bit different in medical states where you can really just drive down to the "weed store" and have 20+ strains and a variety of oils and edibles available. I use the reclaim, pretty sedating and good for sleep despite the weird taste. Need to get a straight stem soon too, I meant to get one when I went to the headshop the other day but saw some new stuff they had and lost track (and ended up getting something else instead lol). I use really fine screens in the stem load not in the body of the stem. Might give it a shot but really if anything's getting through the really fine screen I have in there I can't really do anything about it.

I can dig it. And not to second guess a good guy, but how about thinking outside the box? That is get a box big enough to hold the grand kids........ Think of how much more convenient that would be.

You should probably drill some air holes in it though........

My Solo finished its alignment charge and I'm sitting here playing with der blinkenlights. Testing the button codes (turn on, turn off, mute sound, return to last setting), watching how it heats and cools. Neat stuff!

So I plug it back in, the idle light blinks once, then the number 7, and then full lights and the green charge light comes back on... Pressing both buttons to turn it on/off does nothing, and neither does pressing up or down to try and set a temperature…

Am I correct in surmising that I lucked upon an old model Solo? Is true PA mode in my future??

Next I'm gonna look back in this thread to find OF's standardized battery testing regimen. If this really is an old & wise little guy, I'm curious to see how well the battery is holding up.

Yes! It sure sounds like it to me. If it won't turn on (to heat up) with the charger plugged in........

Good luck with that.

My standard test is fully charge (to solid light), back to back runs on step 7 heat with nothing in the heater but top open. Normal is to get 2 or sometimes even 3 on step 7 with a new battery and 'a session a step' from there (one on 6, one on 5 and so on). 8 or 9 sessions until you get no battery level lights on start up.

Brand new batteries sometimes get a session or so more, but 8 such test sessions per charge is a good benchmark I think. I just checked my out of box (silver) one. 10 total sessions confirming what I think is an unused unit???? No scratches at all, zero smell of weed, very modest 'warm stuff' smell when hot, the top seal looks to be a virgin and all four tabs in pristine condition. The tube does overhang the base on one side so there's a sharp edge of aluminum sticking proud of the plastic, perhaps this is why it came back? If so, thanks very much to whoever sent it back, I hope you're enjoying it's replacement much as I intend doing with this one. BTW I got a bent stem in the box too! Randy for President!

Just shipped my first replacement(M1T) solo in for warranty, started to randomly turn off and had that rapid blue led flashing issue. As per the forums a couple light smacks got it working again but after a couple days it started to do it again. I might look into getting another vapo, any suggestions for a new vape? I use it almost everyday so i would like something reliable and the solo has not been that for me, i initially bought it in Feb/2014 and this would be the second time i send one back.

Pax? Ascent?

Thanks!

I hope somebody from a riser is following this thread.I bought a solo off of eBay, new, but without warranty. When the above problem started happening to mine, I took it apart. In fact, I've become quite an expert at taking it apart and putting it back together again as I'm able to fix it, but only temporarily. As someone else noted, the wires are exposed where they are soldered.if you push the insulation up towards the disc where the solder is, everything works fine. The problem is it doesn't stay that way.

Here's my beef: when I look at mine carefully I saw that there were two very small holes on a piece right next to the wires.it is obvious to me that these two holes were meant to "carry" two of the four wires.they should have been inserted into the holes, but were not.Someone took a shortcut. I am betting that this is the problem we almost all of the ones that have the blinking blue light, bleeping beeping, and other problems. It shotty workmanship. Just like the base.

I normally really enjoy using the solo. It is a terrific vaporizer. However, I've come to the conclusion that they are not made well. Sure, they are better than others, But there are simply too many complaints on this and other boards about the same problems. A company that doesn't listen to its customers, loses them.

Admittedly, I should've purchased from a dealer who could give me a replacement under the warranty. However, this does not mitigate what I think most would agree is a problem, and perhaps the only one, with the solo.

mod note: Edited to fix broken QUOTE tags.

@Gardenerjeff When buying any vaporizer there's always a chance that you may get a faulty unit. Always buy with an authorized vendor. It's repeated on this thread all the time.

IMO the Solo is well built with quality materials from a company that has a proven track record for making excellent products.

Every vaporist should have more than one vaporizer. If you enjoy having a Solo, 2 Solos are even better.

Everyone, have an awesome weekend. Have fun with friends, family and love one another.

Word to the wise, don't start this test if you might fall asleep at some point in the next hour or two. In my excitement I tried hard last night to stay up long enough to get it to show no battery lights, and passed out. The Solo is showing no battery lights when you turn it on now, so I guess I passed out right on time.

The notes I was keeping here show that I got to my 10th back-to-back session before I passed out? On an old model solo with stains at the bottom of the 'oven', suggesting prior use? It couldn't be that Randy swapped brand new batteries into all of these, could it…?

Hard to say what's going on for sure past what we're told (used units, still functional). One of the ones I got in the last batch definitely had a worn out battery that needed changing. He might have decided to swap new batteries into those with clearly dead ones???

Bottom line is you have what seems to be a perfectly serviceable Solo for like 1/3 the 'street price'? I say, good on ya, time to get to the enjoying part of the adventure? A fine weekend, top notch new vape to play with, I hope your schedule is clear and your stash in good shape........

When I was testing out the Solo battery with back to back sessions, I needed reinforcements. I had 2 volunteers who happily took to the task with eager anticipation. After 12 sessions the battery was spent and we were too. We made some killer nachos and watched some Breaking Bad episodes.

The 2014 Solo keeps going and going with a new battery. It out performs some of the other competition out there in the portable vaping world. The Solo will blow you away.

So far, all I've talked about has been aesthetics and the battery. Finally got to give it a little whirl.

This thing is neat. Dead simple to use!

I think you might have missed the part where you're supposed to run those back-to-back 12-minute sessions without a stem in the Solo? That lets you eliminate the variables involved with actually using it, so you can realistically compare battery life between Solos.

Your way sounds like a lot of fun though!

I read that part. This way I like much better. Not the scientific way that @OF prefers though. This I did with my new Solo a few months back. I haven't tested the "out of the box sale" Solo but it probably would have similar results, give or take a session.

EDIT
We didn't keep track of draw times and how many draws per session. Temps ranged at level 4 and 5.

Truth be known, I like your test as well. A lot more subjective, but folks are probably more interested in doing it that way........

Such measures are only useful if they can be standardized, however. While I solved it by removing the stem and load, your solution has it's good points as well. Still, not all that repeatable an experiment........unless you're willing to rent yourself and your buds out? To save travel costs, perhaps folks could just mail you their Solo and stash and you could tell them if you liked it?

I don't want to volunteer you for anything, but it seems like a nice service to the community?
