I didn't like the the idea of flattening my coil more either so I squeezed it on the coil sides with a pair of pliers to make it an oval shape. This has worked well for me so far. The oval coil grips the sides now at 2 points and also touches the rod in the center on 2 sides. My coil hasn't moved after 2 grams of wax has gone through, the coil still retains all it's volume and there is still plenty of space for air flow.

I do think this is something just aching for a design tweak tho.

thank you for the idea.
i went with your oval method. So far so good.

Great Scott!
Does the coil moving issue only happen with the SR71 or something? Still good on my SR74 and I haven't been so easy on it.

Actually, I think it became more of an issue when the Ti oil coils were introduced with the SR74. The old ss coils were about 3 times longer than what was needed to vape the typical waxes available in dispensaries so people cut them down to about the size as what the Ti coils later became (~4mm vs 14mm). But in the process of cutting the ss coils down they usually got a bit mangled. This actually worked in favor of the user since these slightly mangled coils provided a better grip on the inside surface of the Herc.

The Herc's airflow enters from underneath the coil and exits the mouthpiece. So if the coil is not secure it tends to rise up and that in turn cause vapor production to fall off dramatically. If you have not had this issue (yet) count yourself lucky. As a precaution I check that the coil is seated each time I open my Herc to add wax. Just push down on the coil with a toothpick while the herc is still hot to make sure it hasn't started to float up.

I resisted the idea of just flattenning the coil more by squeezing it on the flat sides because while this will make it grip the insides of the Herc better I was afraid that it would hurt the air flow and just escalate the problem. By squeezing my coil into an oval I get the extra grip I want while still leaving room for air to pass through. And I don't loose any volume in the coil since I only apply just enough force to reshape it and I don't really 'squish' it.

I'm going to try this, I keep getting a little oil under my mouthpiece and I know I'm not inhaling too hard. Usually when I'm reloading. When I was cooling it down towards the end I could feel the coil coming up and saw it when I took the cap off, is that normal? Because the wax hardens? I haven't looked after a draw when it's on though. I'm going to try that this weekend, I guess use it without the heat shield on and take the cap off to see. I tried squishing it between two coins, not super hard, but it didn't seem to help.

any advice from the pros out thur ? I'm thinking its time finally for water filtration --

I use the herc 74x most of time …. so best or only options ? ? water / cooling filtration

and I also like the kiss 3.7 cart --- (the 7.4 kiss I just dontget -- its too hot imo and just burns the product too hot in return …. but probably just me -- I really enjoy the taste in the experience ! ) ----- (the globe I'm still getting used feel it works really well with adjustable voltage ! )
--- best option for kiss cart --- ???? water / cooling filtration

or is there a 3rd better method ???? :) or up tech -- up n coming maybe :)

i love the NiblerXL on my herc enough that i bought a second to keep at home.

if you were looking to diy something cheep, a plastic battery tube with bottle cap and some tubing makes a pretty good sidecar bubbler for a pen vape.

I lost the mouthpiece tip for my SR74 so I improvised the above. The piece was $20 from the LHS and bolts right onto a K.I.S.S. Globe (without the globe) or a Hercules with the adapter I made with a 14 to 18 converter. Still wanting a Nibbler XL once they're back in stock, but this will do

@StickyShisha and @lolkosha IMPressive -- very impressive --- nice improvising with both ideas !

I guess the nibbler xl is the way huh sticky ? ---- seems so -- (l ll check if its in -- n i guess its made well enff huh :) --- not worth having it made by a glass blower when all perfected :)

thx again stickyshisha

ps -- just fooling around with my 7.4 kiss cart --- i actually can enjoy it much better running at 6.3v !! I think at 6v but the core is being buggy at 6????? :)

yup -- outa stock :( ---- any idea when we might have them back…. have they been out for a spell?
thk u !

So I'm having problems getting started with my Hercules 74. I got it primed and loaded, a few hits out of it. Then, my coils started moving up and now much of the oil is on top of the coils. So, is there a way to salvage this or should I break out the ISO for a reclaim and clean and start over? If I start over, I think I'll try just one coil this time instead of 2.

@c76man no need to reclaim boss man, just take out the coils and insert the one with the most oil and your good to go again.

One common way to prevent coils from traveling up the walls of the upper chamber is to "squish" them so that the diameter of the coil expands slightly. The new shape will hold the coil in place at the bottom of the chamber, with compression forces up against the inner walls, opposite one another. You can do this by placing the coil between two coins and giving 'em a mighty squeeze, or follow @Hedonismbot 's advice to squeeze the coil from the sides, to avoid flattening the coils out more than necessary.

In the meantime, I would push the coils back down to the bottom and continue to vape, pulling slowly to avoid pulling them back out. Once your current load is depleted, modify your coils as above.

Best of luck, it's worth it!

Hello everyone haven't been around for a while but I have been meaning to drop by to ask why this is happening

Since I purchased a hammer top when I run it with batteries the button flashes over the smallest movement/tap or when I set it down or pick it up is this normal what does it mean ?
doesn't seem like that big of a deal but unless its sitting perfectly still on my desk its continually flashing and basically draining my batteries
it doesn't do it with the core though only with batteries ?

the unit is designed to be really sensitive. Because the unit does not have a 5 click on off feature if it gets turned on in your pocket or you forget to turn it off and it drops to the ground it shuts off.

Slight movement shuts it down.

Hello Everyone !
I am new to the herc+persei setup, trying to use 3.7v black rod and ss kit, but not getting much vapor .
So I would like to get some tips from the hercules experts, ...I oval-ed coil, it's tight .
How much material should I load for better results?
How long do I need to hold a button to warm it up, ...seems that it is not hot enough yet, but the button is blinking already.
I would appreciate any other suggestions on how to get a better clouds out of it .
Thanks!

@THC SCIENTIFIC,
Hey G, did u use the Imag with oil or bud? It can be used with both, right? How is it with oil and how is it with bud, separately tho? I'm thinking about grabbing one. Thanks for your help.

Alright, first you have to realize the black rod is a different beast then the white rod. It requires more technique and patience to get similar sized hits...

Now with the black rod and 1 coil I would load about 0.6 g. I first add the first 0.3 or so and make sure to melt it in the coil by pulsing the button and lightly puffing without inhaling a few times... Then I repeat this with another 0.3 but I don't melt it in all the way I let some of the oil sit on top of the coil/rod like a little pool of oil...

Then you should be good to go. It takes a little longer so what I do is hold the button for a few seconds to preheat, then keep holding the button and start puffing without inhaling...after a few puffs you should see vapor, release the button and immediately press and hold the button again (to avoid the cut off) and inhale normally....

Should get you going...practice and patience...

Try raising the bottom plate in the battery tube a little bit...not too much but it should make it less sensitive...it'll still flash when you put it down but it won't flash by simply shaking your hand
