Herb Grinders

So, shortly after I had pre-ground a bunch of herb w/ my acrylic grinder, the mailman shows up w/ my SCS .. So I had to grind up some more :D.. I don't usually load the grinder full like that, I just did it for the picture.. The edges of the teeth are all quite a bit sharper than I had expected... I'm really happy w/ it so far, it grinds fine and fluffy.. Great grind consistency for use w/ all of my vapes :tup:

I even got a bag of Lays w/ my order from PV.. but they were Catsup flavored :uhh:, and the chips were all smashed into crumbs too .. It's a nice gesture though .. I left them sitting at the vape station, I figure they'll get eaten eventually :D

Nice man! Looks good. Just chiming in to say that I adore my SCS. It's my shiny, trusty little herbivore. Truly love it and I know it'll be around for a looooonnnngggg time

So I just got my SCS and I'm both impressed and disappointed. The build quality is impeccable, can't fault it really solid piece of kit. What I am disappointed about is that the inside of the grinder had small scratches with colour coming off it. :(

I have contacted the retailer and they will send me another one in two days... I'd rather make use of it while I wait, I'm really impatient! The question is do I need to clean it with iso or something before sending it back or should I not use the SCS all?

If you use it you should clean it. If they're sending you a replacement before they get the bad one back, then you should return it unused IMO. Don't forget that they need to return it as well, and if it's clear that it's never been used, then it's also clear that it's the fault of the manuf.

I'm swapping it over at the same time, so when it gets here I give the old piece to the courier. When I spin the grinder I notice that the top ever so slightly rubs against the wall, leaving a thin white trail around the edge that can be rubbed off with your finger.

You're not the first to report rubbing like that. I think it was either a bad batch, or they got dented somehow. Once you get a perfect one, it should spin easily (first time I used it I had to check to make sure it was actually working! I thought something was wrong)

X2.
I grind very small loads and it truly feels like it is empty, it spins so smooth. Sorry to hear that xhexk got a bad one. But, the wait will be worth it, promise.

So I just spoke with the reseller again and said they looked at a couple in store and they had a scratch or two as well. I could either return my grinder for a refund or I could get £10 off (the SCS costed me £30) which I accepted. I feel that even though there was a chip the grinder does an exceptional job and I'm very happy with it.

Well my mendo from the mass drop finally came in.... Shigh... Super disappointed to be honest. Good build quality, that's where the good ends. The teeth aren't sharp enough. They just smush and push the herb around. While it never falls through the undersizrd holes unless genuine attempts are made Too get it through. The grind isn't very good either. Not bad I suppose but the golden gate grinder I got from amazon smoothly grinds the herb to a nice fine fluffy goodness. This crudely and roughly grinds it. About as well as my beaten bruised sharp stone. For a high end grinder I'm disappointed. Saddened almost. And my love for amazon is multiplied. Anyway just my 2cents

I find that it seperates the herbs (even moister, more difficult nugs or leaves) instead of GRINDS them to a dust which I prefer. It could be a more efficient grinder but I think it 'shreds' perfectly.
And as for the bits that don't fall down, I either give it a good tap and shake, or leave them for the next round of shredding and hope they fall through the 2nd time around
Hopefully you find a use for it or a friend who could benefit from it!

If it's like the ones I bought some years ago, it's not a lack of sharpness, it's the shape of the teeth. They're more like a knife, where the teeth cut through the bud, but having no other sharp edges, other than front and back, there's nothing to move the herb around for further grinding. You end up with a coarse grind that's best suited for rolling joints. I've got a large(ish) 4 pc. and a mini 2 piece, and they both slice through the bud easily, but then just spin around in the clean gaps the teeth have created. You end up having to manually redistribute the herb in the grinder to get it all in the path of the teeth.

Yes I agree. Any grinder with teeth like this (only brand I've seen like it), instead of standard diamond or offset shape, shreds instead of grinds. It's fine if that's what you're looking for, and actually works well for cutting through dense, moist bud. If you want a finer grind and/or want to make sure all the bud is processed, IMO it's not the best choice.

Does anyone own the Zeus Vortex grinder?

http://torontovaporizer.ca/vaporizer-accessories/zeusgrinder/zeus-vortex-grinder.html

Just picked one up and wow that little crank on the top works really well....I like being able to see the product disappear into the storage area as well. Fairly course grind though, although I haven't tried cranking it upside down. Apparently this crank style helps prevent it from gumming up?

From my own experience, and what I have read of others in this very thread, crank style is novel at best and works okay... until the crank breaks off then it is entirely obsolete and incapable of functioning. I found it gummed up just as easily as any of my other previous grinders.

SCS, at least for me, really was the grinder to end all grinder purchases. I have had mine for quite a while now- it never gums up on me, and it can literally shred through a fully-loaded top of granite-hard nugs like a hot knife through butter.

I don't even strain my wrists; it is a remarkable experience once you start using one. I NEVER thought my grinder would become my favorite accessory, but the truth is my vapes have never performed as well as they do with SCS grinds. I think it delivers a noticeably different and elevated vaping experience over coarser grinds.

1- I am with you there... and if you think that is remarkable... wait until you get used to it, then re-try it after it's first bath! ( http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/herb-grinders.15/page-121#post-243969 )

2- I agree that the vaping experience is greatly enhanced when you feel good about your tools.
Feeling good about your glass, vapes and grinders leads to a positive feeling about vaping. This leads to a positive self image. SCS does it for me!

Yes, I love Love my SCS so far.. Always amazed at the grind consistency, it's perfect IMO.. I agree, it really has improved my vaping experience w/ all my vapes! and it's sooo fluffy! It doesn't smash and chop the herb, it just shaves off thin layers.. I like my grind really fine, so I've been loading my Large SCS up pretty full, and or holding it sideways while grinding to let the herbs settle more into one area.. The large is quite big, I do kinda wish I went w/ the next size down, but the Large is not really too big for me most of the time, only once in a while.. One thing that bugs me about it, it seems like a good amount of herb gets stuck all over the inside, and I have to use a brush and spend some time getting most of it out.. that could be because I'm loading it up pretty full though  Either way, it kind of makes me glad I got the Large so I don't have to fuss w/ brushing it out as much.. I guess I could just leave it in there for the next round, but it would bug the shit out of me knowing I left it all messy, and I don't want it to gunk up on me sooner.
I even got a bag of Lays w/ my order from PV.. but they were Catsup flavored :uhh:, and the chips were all smashed into crumbs too .. It's a nice gesture though .. I left them sitting at the vape station, I figure they'll get eaten eventually :D
I thought I'd give an update.... Those chips got eaten w/in 24 hours .. Every last crumb :D

LOVING my Zeus Vortex! Haven't put a tonne through it yet but I really love the crank and see through design. Time will tell how long it lasts but i'm pretty happy with a Lifetime warranty. It doesn't grind as nice as the SCS though, not even close.

Almost there...
Received my Black SCS 2 piece grinder the other day!!

WOW!!!
Super heavy and excellent quality!!!
The grind is nice and consistent and quite a bit finer than my old faithful S&B orange grinder!
Action is easy and smooth, not notchy at all!

Finally after using the herb for 20 years i have my first decent grinder!!! LOL!

Moosh

Insert witty statement here.
Finally pulled the trigger on a 2pc SCS green after such praised reviews from everyone. Had a hard time deciding between the SCS and SC since SC has been the grinder to have for a while and the SCS is fairly new but everyone who has both seems to like the SCS better so I decided to go with it. I had a space case a while ago but it got stolen so hopefully I will be as pleased with my SCS as I was with my SC

I still have a couple of grinders on my list,
but it could be a while because I don't need them at all lol.

One of those little stash case/grinders, and a 3-pc scs.
Then my grinder journey will be complete!
