Does this maybe relate to all the "odour" posts a little while back? With SM55 thinking drilling a hole in the bottom of the EVO to "vent"? Ofcourse, this was all only specifically when using the EVO inverted.

What does this fume smell like? Solder?

smells like heated electronics or a robot fart

Pretty much this.

It's like a heated rubbery electronic..ky? smell.

In the videos I've seen I feel like most people get like 1 really massive rip and then the rest are mini compared to the first one, what experiences do you have with that and how many hits per session do you usually get?

It depends how much I load. If I load like 1/8 - 1/6 of the ELB, I usually only get one really cloudy hit and the rest are pretty wispy or sometimes have practically no visible vapor.

If I load 1/4 - 1/3, I can get 2 to 4 very cloudy and potent hits usually. Have not tried loading more than 1/3 of a bowl yet.

Temperature also matters a lot. I need mine at 2 o clock or higher to get serious clouds. I typically hover between 2:30 and 3.

I'm brand new to vaping so I often am not sure when I've fully expended an ELB. I usually keep taking hits until it starts tasting pretty bad, but I'm not sure if there's a better or more efficient way of gauging when most of the active components have been vaped.

Revieved my Evo from Massdrop, making it my second Evo, first one was from the indigogo campaign. I feel like this one provides better Vapor then my first Evo, which I did have to send in for a firmware upgrade. Going to play with both and see if I need to get the dial set just right on the first, love both tho.

I stop when either the taste turns, or the vapor is not worth the effort. YMMV.

So, uh, my evo started turning itself on randomly while the switch is in the "off" position. While it's plugged in obviously.

Just got home from repairs too :/

exit,
Put a tad more water in it :)
I figured that one out already. Now it vortex's even while the EVO is attached!
Holy shit. How much does something like that run you? I want a custom hydratube soon, but I need to make it fit in my drawer when on a hydrastand like my current tube does.
It was $300
I too have had NO problems since day 1 (dec. 2013) with my EVO. My bamboo is a little loose (maybe an 1/8" total of movement) but it works wonderfully many times every day.
I am in the same boat but I believe you might be messing up your dates a bit because I don't think the EVO has been out that long.

I received my EVO in December 2013 (early bird)... I think some fanatics may have even received theirs in November? could be wrong about that

Yes it has. Check the beginning of the thread.

We have a new quote system that even allows easily quoting multiple snippets of posts. Just highlight what you want to quote with your cursor, click 'quote' and follow the subsequent directions. Doesn't work right, as far as placement, with IE yet, if you already have a post started. :\

do some of you guys turn your evo to temperatures past 3 oclock , for some reason some of my herb can only produce vapor at temperatures 4+

Mine sits at 3pm and produces intense vapor. If the light is green and I go further then 3 the unit doesn't change color. So I just stick with 3.

Higher than 4pm seems real excessive (Edit: On my unit anyway. I realize there are variances in units.). Do you let it heat up for 10 minutes before you use it?

I don't think higher than 4:00 is really excessive (pm or am it doesn't matter ;-P)... I think alot depends on the minor variances in the glass bamboo. I used a re-calibrated EVO for a couple of months, and many a time used to on max temp with not even super dark abv...and nowhere near combustion. Now on my Cloud+, completely different storey....I NEVER go past 2:00 and typically keep it at 12:00. I know different beasts.

@Burn thank you very much for the info. I am looking to find something stronger for regular use, not a companion vape.

I have a severely high tolerance, and am finding that herb is just not cutting it really. The fact that is has an oil setup was also a draw.

I was hoping the evo was more of a simple to use beast. A one stop shop if you will. No stems and such to fumble around with.

However if the vapor production is similar, then it's probably not for me.

Thank you guys very much for the insight!

=)
The evo is a beast. It should work for you. Would you ever consider taking a short break? It helps so much with high tolerance

Lol I'm on a forced break becuz of my throat. Misery loves company. I am thinking of getting a new. solo when I end this break because I need water filtration and want something a little more portable.

LOL this HT looks funny :D
I'm worried about that circ, it seems it could break off really easily. That doesn't look like a perc I would pay such premium price for.
It doesn't look at all as sturdy as mine where thin glass is nowhere to be found:
dgqph1.jpg

Thank god the glass was good back then, seems like their prices are going up and the glass quality down.
I've already seen some breaks where the glass looked really thin at the female joint attachment - that should be the thickest part as well as perc base!

Ah. I assumed any glow was an indication of a problem. Or a future problem that'll come too soon. I'll stay watchful. Thanks.
Glow can be normal under some circumstances.
When you dial the max, then immediately after turn off, it can be possible to see faint red glow from the heater. It doesn't glow when the dial is lower and the green has been on for a while.
When the unit is heat-soaked like that, the heat is already there so the heater doesn't (and shouldn't) need to heat a lot to maintain that.
Hovewer when you turn on the unit from cold start, the heater will build up a very intense yellow glow withing a minute so it heats up as fast as it can. Then about 30 seconds before the temp is reached, the smart heater goes off. This is when the glow is most intense. The heater knows exactly when to stop so at the time when that glowing heat disperses into the glass it also reaches the temperature precisely and the LED goes green (yes sometimes it can overshoot a little because of this - then the heater just waits a bit more so the temp backs down).

This behaviour can drive someone who doesn't know what's going on into paranioa over overheating. I think it could be mentioned in the manual that on startup or max setting it is normal to see a glow from the heater.

I think it's also possible to "abuse" this behaviour to make the unit overshoot a lot:
1) You set the dial to max knowing how long it would take to go green from cold start.
2) You turn it on and count until about 30 secs remain to green and then back the dial down until you reach green.
3) Well, this was the point, where the unit would stop heating so the temp reaches that max dial after that 30 secs, now you've told it you want the temp to stay where it is now, but the heater is already boosted and the unit can't do anything about that, it can just overshoot and wait. It would need to stop another 30 seconds ago to stabilize there without overshooting.

Well I guess I didn't realize I have had my EVO for that long lol. But I just looked back and I got an email in November of 2013 that said my EVO shipped. So I must have for it around then lol. I guess I just have been too medicated with this damn EVO lol.

For those with a Cloud+ (or OG ticker) AND EVO, have any of you noticed that the Cloud+ is harsher on the lungs? I know the EVO is more refined, and i'm curious as to whether it may be easier on my lungs. For some reason my Cloud+ makes me cough like crazy through the same bubbler and setup as my Nano. My Nano delivers a thicker vapour as well, I dunno...it's just definitely different and doesn't make me cough or irritate my lungs. I'm attributing it to temperature, but they are set at roughly the same temp based on abv anyway.

I used to use the Cloud+ up to 2:00, but now i'm at 11:00 and still coughing. I'm wondering if this would happen with the EVO based on the different nuances. I gotta do some more experimenting...gonna bring the Solo into the equation. For some reason i'm wondering if convection vapes hurt me more than partial conduction. @lazylathe - remember when you cranked the Herbie up and I started coughing? Herbie is mostly convection too, and i'm wondering if for some reason the hot convective air currents irritate, like the EVO - as opposed to Nano or Solo....hmmm, good topic for a new thread perhaps.

My solo is the only vape I currently have that does irritate my throat. I'm currently sick so using my solo is out of the equation right now for me.
