Forum Software Update 1.4

With the new online status indicator there is an additional privacy setting to consider, but unchecking the box shown in your screenshot will disable both.

But that's not working for me, either? That is while checking and unchecking the box flashes alternate headers claiming it's blocked/shown the silly thing in the corner persists?????

It was unchecked at first (the default) but the corner thing was there which is what got me to fiddle with it.......

TIA if there's anyone who can sort this out for me........

I'm pretty sure it's just letting you, and only you, know that you're online… For whatever good that's worth. It seems that this "self-indicator" can't be turned off, but the privacy setting does hide your status (and that indicator) from other people like it should. There's nothing showing up on your avatar right now.

I'm not sure how difficult it would be to implement, but might I suggest a gallery for each thread?

Similar to how overclock.net does it: all the pictures contained within a thread can be viewed in a gallery.
It's much easier for the user than having to go through 300+ pages to find pictures.

Everything else about FC's forum is far superior to any other forum I frequent. This feature would just put it over the top.
That's a nice idea. Would come in handy for more than a few threads that come to mind!
Congrats on the 1.4 update also FC! Onward & upward :leaf:

Thanks for that. While I'd like to say that makes sense, to me it makes none at all. I already know I'm looking at it, what possible useful information could it convey? Kind of fits in with a long time feeling that programers really do need to get out more...........

Then again, what can one expect from guys who insist on counting things starting with zero? Ask a Softhead "how many dwarfs did Snow White have?" and they answer "Six". Every time. Well those who don't ask 'who's Snow White' or 'what's a dwarf?'.

"Never argue with a guy who counts to 1024 on his fingers".

Thanks again for the confirmation.

Total "Softhead" here; I guess that's why it occurred to me that it's working the way it seems to be! I'm working on improving my knowledge around the hardware side of things. I've been learning a lot from vapes and folks around here.

Thanks for the laugh. I think you know what you're talking about on this one, unfortunately…

Liking most of the changes  - except for the new recent profile posts section (perhaps because a message I left EDA yesterday is now being broadcast to the whole of the site). I don't really see the need for that - to me it seems a little bit like curtain-twitching. I suppose that's easily overcome though - by sending people PM's instead of leaving messages on their profile :)

EDIT: I've changed my mind already - woman's prerogative and all that! Some of the recent profile posts have really made me giggle. I'm now eagerly awaiting an update from our much loved crazy horse @dorkus_molorkus - if he hasn't been banned already!? :)

EDIT 2: Where'd it go!!?? :)

With the way you keep lighting up my profile with scandalous remarks, we might just have to ban you... from me. :ko:

I think I like this new posting method.

Works Gooooood...

One thing that would be cool, but dificult to imlement, would be if one edited some text that someone else had quoted, the quote would change too.

nevermind. Just a computer geeky thing to think...

Please ban me from this thread. I have made too many posts in it anyway. :)

Actually, a feature we could really use is the ability to delete one of our own posts, rather than having to bother the Mods to do it. I'm a little surprised that isn't possible...

Not yet!!! Where are the Mods? Maybe I'll report myself...

I'll come back later and see if I've been banned. This feels kind of like "Hit me again, it hurts so good"...

Cool, no reply button. Looks like a closed thread. I like it.

That's the problem, some people would really use it. If you look in the right places, you'll see the legacy left from the era when you could delete your own posts. It'll be hard to understand what's going on, but that's what happens when people go on a tear and delete all of their posts from a thread. You will, however, get a better understanding of why the delete function was limited to moderators.

To quote Hillary, : I'm Baaaaaaack..."

I guess that makes sense. I have certainly seen threads that were difficult to read due to purging like that. Never really gotten why folks do it, but disallowing it eliminates a need for any understanding... ;)

The partial bans are a fascinating alternative that could lead to some interesting shaping behavior from the Mods. They have the makings of an interesting research project for a masters thesis... ;)

I notice some avatar pictures have a green edge on the top corner on some. Just curious what that means?
