Discontinued Thermovape Cera

StormyPinkness

Rhymenocerous ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
Horrible news. Guess I'm glad it happened a few days before I pulled the trigger. Can anyone suggest a viable alternative for concentrates that offers a decent stealth factor? The PnP is pretty good but I was hoping for an upgrade with the Cera. I'll probably grab the add-on for the VM but the stealth factor isn't great on the VM.

Well for something super stealthy and cheap you could do the w9 minicron lite with the kiss cart (ceramic bowl/wick with a titanium coil) at 20% off on their site for $32 for a really small option. I got one at that price, the size is convenient to throw in your pocket and not worry about for a long time. I usually use the omicron lite which is the bigger brother of the minicron lite. That's $45 right now I think. If you want to go for their best though do the persei with the hercules. That one uses batteries so you can do different voltages and have replacement batteries to pop in. They have kits to make it longer and shorter for more/less batteries. The cheaper omicron can do all that but doesn't run the hercules as well. The newest one coming out is supposed to be 100% user serviceable so that if anything on it breaks you can just swap out the part yourself and get back to it. I don't know much about that one though. I like the hercules so much I use it as my home rig (core + hammer top + hercules). Though you have to take care of your hercules and know how to use it, it needs taking care of. All sorts of bubbler/nibbler attachments too if your into that. Also I like their globe carts a lot, it has a different black ceramic wick which I think absorbs the wax better. Those are just less stealthy to me though (globe = weed). They keep making cool new stuff though. Also customer service is crazy, they're on here all the time and skype with people to show them how to use stuff. Asked tons of question on the thread here before I bought my herc. Sorry if I'm going on, I've just become a fan of theirs recently.

Comparing arizer to thermovape? never would i compare two such different beasts. Im just lucky because i would have been near vapeless (besides a vapor genie and a plethera of old TV parts/cores) had i not acquired the Arizer tower at a steal of a deal.

I now have 1 cera body with EO and LL cart ( the body has been broken for over 6 months and been repaired 3 times) 4 t1 bodies, 1 t1 core/top, 3 evolutions, and 2 window revs, and 2 darts, im afraid to use any now :\ as they may be collector items someday? or worth more in future if still unused? IDK, maybe thats my packrat mentaility speaking!

Has anyone heard any updates or seen prototypes of the Grasshopper vape? it looks like a good contender (not TV quality).

Believe it or not, if the Grasshopper ends up delivering on its claims, it would surpass the quality of TV's stuff, along with everyone else's. Why? Because their claims defy the laws of physics as we currently understand them. :science:

They say that they have NASA backgrounds and they will be revolutionizing the portable vape pen game, but have yet to provide any physical proof as to how. So far, it's been nothing but a few pictures of an empty space that they are converting into their workshop along with a few minor pieces. Also, there is no prototype at the moment, other than the one in their sketchy videos. Only time will tell.

If you're looking for something that compares with the Cera for oil, I'd say the Persei and Hercules combo hands down. If you're looking for more along the lines of flowers, The Haze is a pretty cool option that offers both convection and conduction, a glass mouthpiece, as well as the ability to have two bowls packed at all times. It works with oils as well, but it doesn't provide lung busters like the EO and Herc carts. Good luck on your hunt!

Anyone with ideas on repairing strap failures, My Cera just quit, there is no continuity through the body! Just got it back a couple weeks ago:mad:

than likely the strap is damaged under the tail cap. Try wiggling the switch. If it's lose at all that's where your problem is. My tail cap came off after dropping it. I was able to align the strap with the cap where it use to be welded and push them together pretty hard.

You should also be weary of the batteries that you use..I was told by Z in a phone call a few days before they closed that the Sony vtc5 and vtc4 batteries were the reason that my cera kept having strap failures, even though it had failed 3 times while using the battery that it came with. Had a total of 6 failures. That's not to say I didn't enjoy using the cera, for me it was a top tier vaporizer, and well I'm still pessimistically waiting for a new body in the mail lol. I had the same situation..used mostly the LL core. Every few weeks the strap would fail. Overuse?

No way those vct5 are causing the failure. They're the only battery I run in mine, and I run it hard! just so.you know, the thread Is 3/8 fine thread. You can get a tap and drill then tap out any ecig mechanical mod and use your cera EO cart with it no problem.

I had a long post here about troubles my EL cart had been giving me, but it looks like I was all wrong… Two of my batteries were pretending to be fine. False alarm.

So if the battery and switch can be ruled out as the culprit for the failure, what other avenues of investigation or troubleshooting would their be? if any?

Can I make a DIY strap or repair the old one?

I just want to make my Cera body useable again, it was pretty rad when i had it as my daily.

If you have already done the tin foil ball trick and it didn't work, then you need to find a way to make a connection from the tail cap to the threaded head. You can get an ohm meter and test the continuity between the tail and the head caps. As long as the meter doesn't say OL, your strap is good. If it does say OL then your strap is damaged and you will need to Make a connection between the two caps. My cera has th have the strap repaired, it was damaged at the tail cap where it connects. That would be where I would start looking for problems with the strap. That tail cap is glued in to the body if you need to remove it.

Hey does anybody remember what risks if any exist with using a stainless steel EO cart in a titanium body?? I remember this being discussed around the time of the release of CERA but have been unsuccessful in locating it via the search function.

The TI and SS will expand and contract differently with the heat, this could be a problem on the threading.

I have a friend with the ss Luna, I used his eo cart in my ti cera with zero problems fyi. I only used it a few times to see if it would work because his Luna switch was acting up.

It will. Also, since the SS is much harder it's going to win out over the Ti. Eventually this will lead to 'galling' where the metals adhere to each other so well that pieces will be ripped out. Once it starts it rapidly runs downhill if not corrected. This often happens with SS in friction situations (like jammed threads) where there isn't enough lube (and we use none.....).

You can also get strange chemical reactions at the junction, but I don't think this is an issue here since both SS (once oxidized as it all is) and Ti are pretty inert. This is a problem with more reactive stuff like Aluminum, Zinc and so on.

It will work, but it can be expected to fail over time.

Am I correct in thinking that the only thing that will wear down a cartridge is usage, rather than time?

I'm thinking about setting aside both my Ceras and only using them on very special occasions, in the hopes that this will mean that the carts could last much longer than the usual year-or-so. I'm lucky that I've got recently rebuilt gear, and I'm sure gonna miss that loose leaf cart when it gives up the ghost.

With the exception of batteries (and they should last a long time stored correctly) I agree. I too have moved my TV stuff out of daily use. I could have gone on a long time since I have several complete rigs and a few spare carts, but this way I know they'll always be available for special occasions. From time to time I haul a LL Cera, DART or Cera EO out for a private celebration of merit. Sometimes just because the sun came up and it's a beautiful day.........

My beloved Cera finally bit the dust last night. I have had it since the initial release and it served me very well. The only reason it ever gave me trouble was concerning the switch. In april after a year of use, the switch failed. It was rebuilt to the new specs and sent back to me this past may. When I put the battery in Cera last night it immediately got really hot and i couldn't shut it off until I took the battery out. What a bummer.
Does anyone know if TET ever found a solution to the strap/switch failures? I am considering buying a titanium CERA that was built in January 2014 from a friend of mine.
Damn I am jealous of all you with working ceras.

Bummer indeed. From the sounds of it, it's a switch failure, the basic unit should still work. Awkward as it might be to install/remove the cap (or a ball of foil) to control the power it's a better failure than a strap or cart failure (which would leave you cold and dark).

Ti units should be basically as reliable as the best of the SS ones since they got laser welded straps from the start. They will, of course, be using the same switch inside that Ti cap.

Good luck.

I made the mistake of ordering oil (pure essentials) from a delivery service. It turned out to be horribly thick, so it works fine mixing with bud for Solo use but I wouldn't think of putting it into my EO cart.

So on to the next one. Anyone have experience using http://tetralabs.com/puregold.php in the EO?

It works very well, in the original Cera thread there was a video with 30+ hits with the Cera using Pure Gold. It's a bit expensive for me to consider getting it to use regularly, though I've had great luck with the runnier CO2 oils. The ones that come in syringes for easy dispensing are great and the taste varies with strain unlike Pure Gold.

So my Solo and Cera EO are my daily drivers - probably 40% and 60% respectively. I can't say enough about them both, especially when coupled with a dh020 and PVHES. My Cera has operated flawlessly since I bought it early this year. But alas, I need to prepare for its demise, with no TET, cuz I'm hooked on oil now.

I'd probably settle for even a wired vape, but even those don't lend toward oil without hoops AFAI can tell. I guess I'm to understand that the next in line is the Persei, but even reading thru the Persei thread its not a walk in the park, and the W9 products like the KISS cartridge seem more at home in a combusting pen vape.

For someone who is looking for a portable OIL vape requiring minimal technical knowledge, hybrid or convection, just wondering what people will be reverting to when their EO's croak, besides pleading with OF to rebuild their cart ?

The persei + hercules is actually pretty simple once you get concept. Or you can caveman style and get a torch :)
