I would expect it to function more like the Imag, which also uses a coil but has a steel cup that is heated by the coil with controlled temp. Smiss knows now not to market a new pen for herb of it is not really, I imagine they just made a similar device to compete with Imag more directly than the VV does

Was unaware of the Imag. May order a plus version and see how it compares to the VV I ordered from Massdrop.

Mine arrived and had to test it out.

Initial thoughts:
Nice design and look (as someone said looks like a flash drive when folded)
The ability to stow the pipe internally is a great idea.

Tried the dregs of my Chiesel through it and it gave thick clouds straight away on I had it on Purple setting as it was sunny and it looked blue until a brief cloud passed over (not from the FM!) it produced good vape 30 seconds in and never disappointed after a while I tried red briefly and it was pretty much done by a few draws in fact it didn't hit auto shutdown (lost track of time )

Emptied it and the ABV was a very even brown colour.

Seems to be just what I needed and it fills the hole of a more discreet portable vape. I find the PnP hard to get more than 3 sessions off a number 3 charge (if you start on 2 and try to change to 3 mid vape it doesn't like to do it). The solo is not really portable in the sense I want it too be. The Lotus is great but outdoors you look crack headish and the flames hard to control under windy conditions and I find it hard to focus the flame in bright sunlight but is ideal for indoors use.

The FM ticks the outside/easily portable boxes for me, it works and was cheap £64 including delivery and it's the new model with glass, which the vape flavour was a lot better than I anticipated.

It will interesting to see how many loads I can get out of it - will probably use setting 1, then 2 not sure about if there's much left by 3 that will require some more experiments:tup:

Smiss have built a budget price vape that far exceeds its expectations?

Well reading through your thoughts on it and its worth a try ive also ordered one from eBay for £67.50 new one with temp settings. I also have a solo and a lotus that are my portable vapes that I like.

I bought a palm 2.0 for stealth and also had a Puffit X for stealth (still the worst vape for me.I) as my portables and need something stealthy that hits ok for when I am dog walking.Ive taken the solo on hill climbs and had a lovely vape up Snowden awesome experience vaping on a mountain.

It seems like you could easily reduce the restriction on the draw by taking a metal drill bit and boring out the holes on the metal disk with 5 holes that is directly underneath the mouthpiece.

I cleaned it, if it's still too hard to draw (for my taste) I'll replace it with a solo screen ,cut to fit.

I'm not familiar with the screens from the Solo, but I don't think that the Flowermate screen is what is giving you troubles.. However, if you see the piece that I'm talking about directly under the glass or silicone mouthpiece (you have to physically separate the mouthpiece from the metal piece its screwed into), just try inhaling through that and then again through the metal screen that they have in the bottom of the mouthpiece. I find that metal piece with the 5 holes restricts airflow so much more than the screen.

If you're looking to reduce the restriction of your draw, that's your culprit. You can bore out those holes without worrying about material passing through because there is still the screen below it.

If you choose to explore that at all, I would start by widening out the center hole a little bit, then attempting to draw, and widen the holes in small increments until you find a draw resistance you're comfortable with.

What really impressed me is how it worked 1st time and worked well. The learning curve seems to consist of learning the button sequences. 1 button does everything.

Get some replacement mouthpieces from vapefiend. Co. uk 5.99 as whilst the glass mp is great it's gonna break if you drop it.

I saw one UK ebay seller wants 99.99 for the new version.

What colour did you get? mines black.

If hiking/walking the dog this little unit should fit the bill. The unit will slip in the front pocket of a pair of jeans.

just received one of these from ebay and so far quite like it.
All I have for comparison is my S&B Plenty. While it can't rival the plenty for vapor clouds it certainly does the job as far as medicating goes and it heats up very quickly (40 secs ish)
Mine is the new 3 temp version. I can't work out how to get it to turn on (chamber LED) without heating up like the old one is supposed to. As soon as i click the button 5 times the bowl lights up and it starts to heat. Pressing and holding the button cycles up through the 3 heat settings.
I have ordered an old style silicone mouthpiece as the glass one has a ridiculously restrictive draw. I may drill it out if the silicone one has a better draw.

@djneils100

I don't think you can have just the led on in the chamber. Mines the same 5 presses and it's straight away on blue heat. 3 second presses also just toggle it to purple and then red.

I read the manual it didn't make full sense then after using the device I realised it's the manual for the single temp version.

mine was 65 off that seller he put them up to 67.50 now 70. They are selling well by the look of it.

Those bootleg pax ones are 139£ why on earth would you bother when for less than half the price.

I think vapefiend.co.uk will shortly have the new models in stock.

I've also noticed it copes well with a well packed load prodded down with the tool. only you need the tool to extract the abv.

thanks - that's put my mind at rest that I might have got a fake or something (do they even exist?)
I have the wrong instruction manual.
Will be interesting to see the difference between the mouthpieces.
Shame about the LED not being able to work without the heat - can't quite see the point of it as it stands - my herb starts cooking not long after turning on so you've got no time to use the light before you need to get the mouthpiece on

Just got an e-mail from Massdrop that my VV shipped. One week earlier than estimated, not bad. Just hoping I don't hit for any customs fees.

Not found any storage options for it yet, was thinking about a generic smart phone type cover any one got anything sorted.

This is my temporary solution (also shows the units size it's a regular 2oz tobacco tin).
I needed something as the prodding tool and brush are useful because you can overpack the unit and it still draws well and vapes the ABV a nice shade of brown, but if overfilled the tool (or a match maybe) is needed to extract the ABV.

Hey @cityslang: Nice call on the Rizla box man! I just ordered one of these plastic cases for my soon to arrive Massdrop VV:

http://www.witzsportcases.com/electronics-cases/smart-phone-locker.html

I have the slightly larger "DPS" case and it fits my Ascent like a charm. These cases are water resistant to three feet, crush proof, and they have felt lining on the sides and soft foam padding top and bottom so they really protect the vape. It's under fifteen bucks devlivered, too. It makes me feel so much more confident taking my beloved, but frail, Ascent out and about. I have very high hopes for this one as far as fit goes for the VV. I compared measurements and it should be a perfect fit! I'll let you know if it's a winner.

I received my Massdrop shipping confirmation today!

I am hoping it will fit nicely in this box....

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008T...0fd557e33d620&pi=SL500_SS115#ref=pd_aw_sims_5

I have an extra one laying around from a deal when I got a few of these for less than $5 each.

I use this size to store my Pax and the larger one to store my Haze.

If this doesn't work out I like @G Hog suggestion. Thanks and let us know how it fits!

My massdrop unit should arrive today, and I have read this whole thread and used the search... but honestly, it is difficult to find info in a huge forum like this, so if anyone doesn't mind:

What is the ideal "burn in" routine for this unit? I recall some people suggesting to run it through a cycle to "burn off" any errant residues, etc.

- Should it be run empty? I don't mind using a sacrificial load if this is somehow beneficial.

- Should it be run as it arrives (as I understand it, it should have a partial charge)? Or should it be fully charged first?

- Should it then be run until "empty"? Modern lithium batteries are fine to run down, correct? No more "memory" issues?

- How to clean the moutpiece? The glass one, weirdly, has a really nasty "plastic" taste when drawn through cold and dry.

I am in no real rush to use the unit, I can be patient and charge/discharge/burn-in however is "best" in terms of eliminating manufacturing residues and ensuring battery health.

Thanks for any pointers...

Edit: just arrived, thanks fast massdrop shipping!

Reading the manual, which is pretty sparse and typically poorly translated...

Edit again... ah here is the post I was looking for... kindof maddening when I can't even remember which vape it was listed for, this would be a great "sticky":

Hey guys, long time lurker first time posting.

So I recently received mine from the MassDrop bunch today. The only problem is that it's not turning on. I'm not sure if the device itself is defected or if I'm doing something wrong. Is there a certain amount of time I should charge it for before initial use? And If it is the device itself that is defected, will MassDrop replace it or would I have to contact the manufacturer directly?

Mine arrived with a seemingly decent charge. I did several unloaded cycles to burn off any potential funk. Also used the vinegar and baking soda thing I linked to above, though trusting 2 hours to be long enough in the baking soda (seems to be... offensive smell is totally gone). Note my silicon piece had no bad smell, but the glass piece DID.

It takes a minute to figure out the "SW SWITCH". It should light up when you push it 5 times. If yours isn't, I would first charge it (red LED on the bottom comes on, and stays red until turning green. Took about 2 hours to top mine off after I did several test cycles.

I just tried the thing live and... it works! If anything, my first impression is that it is a bit too hot... I was getting popcorn flavor and slightly harsh vapor pretty quickly. After using a MFLB for so long, I really wanted to shake/stir the load... nonetheless, this thing works as advertised. It heats the herb and produces visible clouds, which by the way I have never taken as an especially desirable trait... not really sure why everyone else does? Some of my very tastiest and most psychedelic seshes involved low temps and little to no visible vapor.

If this thing lasts 6 months, it will have been worthwhile, I'd say.

Am I rambling on? I seem to be a bit vaped.

Visible vapor is desirable because it is evidence of a more thorough extraction. You can definitely can high from seshes with no visible vapor (shouts to the original iolite), but you probably aren't vaporizing all of the cannabinoids in your product. That's fine if you plan to do something with your AVB, but if not it is kind of a waste (unless you really hate body high).

Turn it on by pressing the button 5 times in 2sec, I was making the mistake of just holding for 3 sec before turning it on. Received mine from Massdrop today as when. Doing initial burn off now

Mine came too. I went and found that there was a email notice of shipment that got filtered away from my inboxes.

Looking forward to trying it out later...

Edit: on further examination the glass MP doesn't seem to have any removable filter, while the silicone one has a white 2 stage filter. Is the one in the silicone mp the same as previous ones?

Thanks for the detail, makes sense.

Just to reiterate... the massdrop ("v5" fixed temp) unit does seem to work very well. Can't attest to durability or anything yet, but it does heat up plenty well, feel good in the hand, and all that. Politics of cheap imported goods aside, I think this will continue to be a crowd pleaser especially for beginners unwilling to spend a lot.

The documentation is fairly humorous (unintentionally)... love the line "Do not use the device when charging, though it can be used when charging." Plus the sweet message, "Your life,we care!" on the back of the booklet. Awwww.

My shipment from Massdrop arrived today as well. It came white a silicone mouthpiece. It's supposed to have glass right? That's what the packing slip says anyway.....

Charging and then burn off to come.....

Mine came with both mouthpieces. One was sealed in a little bag, the other was inside the unit (open the sliding door on the bottom).
