Try turning it on only to the point it clicks, and use it at that temperature. See what happens. It is a simple machine, so it is a matter of where the knob (potentiometer) is set to. If you can achieve a good temperature, I wouldn't worry about what position you get it at. Did you try it at 9? Did you try it at 8?

Hello. I just tried vaping at click temperature and I was still kinda over vaping the bud and was hardly getting any cloudy hits. Tried turning it up and started combusting at 10ish.

I wouldn't be looking for cloudy hits, necessarily. There is no good medium between temperature at click at temp at 10?

I usually start combusting when the wand is half full, if I vape 1/4 of a wand it's usually pretty okay, had a bowl at just below 10 and that was okay...

Just out of curiosity, how fast are you pulling? and i've found that generally certain strains will vape differently/better/poorer than others, with some rarely being strangely very bad to vape, but I don't think that is the issue here

Is this a Standard Glass wand or Ground Glass? Less really is more, I would try about 1/4 full. If you are combusting at 10, it seems strange that 9 is not hot enough?

If the weed is consistent bowl to bowl, two things, basically, determine how hot and potentially smoky your hits will be: the temperature of the ssv and the strength of your draw. Slow draw high heat, it will burn. It might even burn at less than the highest heat if that's what you want.

I try to pull pretty slow, I finish the hit in around 15-20 secs and it's the standard quick change wand. The strain is Sins city's White Nightmare which is surprisingly really weak; If I try to take faster hits at I usually end up with no vapour, I'm probably just messing up though.

One of the screws on the bottom of the unit keeps falling out too which is pretty annoying.

Anyway to post a pic of your material? And one of a loaded (1/4ish) wand?

It sounds like it is defective, but may still be very usable on 8 or 9 with different material/technique.

You could always try @VapeNStone "banger" technique.

I've unfortunately ran out of the last of my material now. :( Will have to try again tomorrow. I might try to return it if I can't get good hits off it.

IMO, this may be your exact problem. As far as I know, a fast draw speed is what is suggested.. you want to pull fast enough to where you hear the noise of wind/whistling coming from the air-intake port of the heater cover, but not so fast that it's really loud/hard to get a good length pull; pulling too slowly is what leads to combustion in pretty much all circumstances with the SSV, from what I've experienced.. i know you've probably fiddled with the settings a bunch but have you tried a fast pull on the temps you were having easy combustion issues at?

High temps and fast draws work better than low temps and slow draws, in my opinion. I guess theoretically speaking it would be the same thing but I find it's easier to get it right with a high & fast draw. With the standard setup you should be hearing a wispy, whistling sound. With the ground glass setup I hear more of a whooshing sound.

Also, it may not have anything to do with the unit itself. Since the glass parts are all hand blown there's a slight variation in size of the intake and outtake hole of the HC's. The chamber size of the wands varies slightly as well, particularly in length. I find I like the shorter wands more but they'll be easier to combust with because the load is closer to the heater. Also, the hole that the screen sits on in the wands vary slightly. None of these variations will make or break the unit, it just requires slight adjustments in draw strength.

Glad to hear you've got it working! The SSV is a beast when used correctly!

I want to order some formed screens to do the bowl mod and it doesn't look like Underdog Aromatherapy will ship to Canada. Is there another source for a correctly sized formed screen?

The formed screens from UD and Epicvape will only fit the Vapor Brothers Mini-wand.

The domed screens that fit the standard SSV wand can be found from the EQ dome (preferred) and the Epicvape EV2 El-Bowl. They are actually rectangle shaped screens with compressed ends to make them round and a ring to hold it together.

If you can find a way to form some dome screens that would be awesome. I tried bending some myself, but they didn't perform half as well as the EQ domes because they just weren't as deep.

This might be of use to you, it is pretty expensive though but they do ship to Canada: http://www.namastevapes.co.uk/colle...sories/products/vapexhale-replacement-screens

Those are for the VXC. Not sure how well they would work, the bottom screens are smaller than the EQs and the big screens would probably fit the length of the SSV wand bowl.

I have a couple VB mini-wands coming in the mail so that's not a problem. I'm already using EQ domes with my SSV standard wand. I was just looking for an easier option that doesn't involve removing a ring and possible pokey edges.

So, formed screens without a ring the options are E-Nano and Underdog screens, and they only fit mini-wands. For the SSV standard wands the only option is to buy basket screens and remove the ring? Just want to make sure I'm correct here.

I'm gonna try forming some screens myself as well. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Yeah AFAIK

Can't wait to hear. The last few EQs I bought where a real PITA to remove the ring.

I'm not sure if it has been discussed already, but for anyone using the standard glass wand an ELB is a huge upgrade over a screen IMO. Easy loading, just pop it in the 18mm male end at the front of the wand and good to go. I have actually been using the oil wand with this technique. I prefer the oil wand because its good for reclaim purposes.

Edit*

I find the ELB also constricts the air path just a bit so I can turn the heat down on the SSV. It also heats the load more evenly with no stirring required. I pop the ELB out about every 3-4 hits and give it a couple taps with my finger to shake the load up a little.

Do you mean the Ground Glass wand?

This is the oil kit ^^, so the oil wand is just like the SSV GG wand

The oil wand has a bubble to collect reclaim.

Yeah I understand that. Just stating that @Gonzo says the ELB fits the standard wand, when he is reffering to a wand that has GG on the end.

Thinking about ordering the oil kit but I'm afraid I'm making my oil wrong, taste bad using a torch + glass nail, so I'm not sure if it is my oil or the rig itself. I know the SSV oil kit would be so much easier to control the temperature.

My bad, I meant the Ground Glass Wand. Sorry about the confusion guys. The ELB fits in the GG wand just like it would in the top of the Cloud. Definitely my favorite way to use the SSV with flower. As for the oil kit, I haven't used my torch and nail since I got the SSV oil kit.
