No worries. I don't want you to get into trouble. Sometimes there's a fine line. You may feel you are reporting.
Someone else might feel your being unkind to Davinci.

I understand how you feel. There was another portable vape, not Davinci that I had problems with. The company was unwilling to stand behind their product. i wasn't even able to send them back to get another, even thought they were within the warranty period. I had bought 3 of their vaporizers. Two of them had cracking plastic. I had to move on.

You know, I did say their customer service was awesome, and of course I'm happy that at least they replaced the unit. I just wish I could have joined the Davinci Ascent vaping party and loved it as much as you guys do.

Have you actually tried talking to a Ascent Superior/Supervisor? Explain your ordeal and how you believe they should pay some shipping charges. You can't have a hot head, you need to talk to them politely and logically. You never know what you can get accomplished by just trying to talk things out. I've had companies go againist their policy many times to help me out. Just a thought...

Hi...this is my 1st post here. And I'm glad I found you.

Just to let you know,... after reading a lot of this huge post and forum, that I ordered my Ascent.

One of my goal is to try it in the wood during camping with no electricity. I do a lot of camping with friends who combusts more than vape. They really like the vaping sessions I'm offering. After 25+ years of combustion they told me that vaporizing was awesome. After vaporizing they had the same feelings/buzz that they had back in the time when they started to smoke.

With this Ascent I will try to convince them to quit combusting and start vaporizing. I just hope the battery will last for at least 3-4 sessions. I think we can make it. I will try to find a portable battery pack to recharge it ;o) but if we run out of battery at least we have the VaporGenie and the MFLB (I always bring 4-6 batteries).

I'll keep you inform, my next trip in the wood is planned for September 19-21.

The battery should last over an hour, in the beginning almost 1 1/2 - 2 hrs. It says a 3 hour battery that could mean on minimal heat? Depending on the temps, number of draws and how long of a draw. There are a lot of variables on how long the battery will last.

You can get the car charger for the Ascent. The cord is too short for the passenger to vape while plugged in charging.

Someone posted in the external battery packs thread some links for a very cheap Chinese standalone power source that is compatible with the Ascent (ie 9V @ 3A) You just need to fill it with 4 batteries of your choice and you can charge a lot of things with it (also has two USB ports)

PM me if you want more details.

I know what it says on the Wall Wart and all but I seriously doubt that spec. I've never measured over one Amp, let alone anything close to 3.

Look at the recharge times, four hours for a nominal 2.2 Ah battery? A bit over half an Amp is probably enough to recharge the Ascent.

FWIW the battery pack I made for the Solo and the PA reducer with the correct cable does this job just fine. I got two recharges for the Ascent when I tried it. Here's a photo of the battery pack in front of the Solo kit, the PA is in the center section with the Solo and power supply:

If you want more recharges, just carry more 18650s.....charged of course.

It's fun that you say that, because I was wondering about these lines recently.

I'm often surprised by how fast my Ascent completes its charge, but I noticed that it gets slightly warm during the process. A battery getting warm during high C-rate discharge is normal and expected, but a battery getting warm during charge is usually not a good sign (at least for the Li-Poly I'm used to)

I re-read the battery institute website guidelines and they say about fast-charge that some batteries support it for awhile, and then when they start getting warm it's a sign that they can't handle it anymore. So I was wondering at first if the Ascent was not charging slightly above the recommended 0.8C rate, or if my batteries were not already deteriorated (but I've been uber careful the entire time)

But then I noticed that my Flowermate charger had the same polarity and voltage, but outputs only 1A. So I tried to charge the Ascent with it, and as expected it worked. I didn't measure but I got the impression it did not take that much longer to complete (I will also have to check if it gets warm or not)

My initial guess was that using this charger could be more gentle to the batteries, but now I'm not so sure. I contacted the maker of Flowermate and asked them if using my 3A Ascent charger on their device would be problematic or not (so the other way round), and they told me it would work because the charging IC inside the device would limit the current to 1A in all cases.

Now with what you said about your measurements, I don't know what to think. Maybe the Ascent doesn't draw more than 1A too and they provided an over-sized charger?

Yes, I think that's exactly the case. Like having a 200 Hp car but only using 75 Horses to motor down the highway of life, the extra capacity is just not used in such cases. No sin to have it I guess. This is 'not uncommon', for instance the factory Solo PA is much larger (in capacity) than necessary, the Solo needs only about 2.25 Amps worst case in PA mode.

So, like with Solo, the battery pack can be smaller (in capacity) than the nameplate on the charger would lead you to believe necessary.

@OF : glad to have you as an official member of the family! I didn't answer your last two posts from a while ago as I'm short of time, and well, it's not that important and now it's too late! :) It's nice that you enjoy the Ascent, the puck or flowers way, and I agree, the way it fits in your palm, the form factor and weight, make the experience very enjoyable. The design is very good.

Absolutely not related, but I completely destroyed by accident one of my lower glass stems: half of the bottom cracked and separated. Now it's not 4 holes anymore but a single giant hole at the bottom. I kept using this straw (and have been for several weeks now) and it works exactly the same, if not better, air-flow wise. Made me wonder if it would be possible to use the device "stem-less", but that would surely mess the air-tunnel and be harder to clean... and if you haven't fixed your top air-leak, that would be obviously a pretty bad idea... Nevermind!

I found this a couple days ago.made out of wood and seems to have an open bottom.

Yes, while Ed has a loyal following with the Solo guys, there seem to be some serious fans of his Ascent stems as well. They are not shy, either, expect at least some of them to contribute. I don't have an Ascent version, but if my Solo one is any indication it's a fine product indeed. If/when I finally break a stem I'll probably seriously consider one of his as I switch over to the spare.

Wow, you are awesome with this battery pack. I just chatted with the Davinci guys and they told me that the power supply delivers a 27W (wall : 9V at 3 Amps (3000 mAh) and I guess the car cgarger mus deliver the same power 27W so if its 12V it shouls be around 2.25 Amp output.

I will analyze OF design when I'll have free time.

But for the car charger, I'll use my 12V / 110V power inverter and use my home charger like this I'll have a long leash.

I think that is almost right, '...the power supply can deliver 27 Watts'. Ascent can't use that much, so just like all the other stuff you've got plugged into 15 Amp 120 Volt outlets it actually draws only what it needs. Also be a little careful with 'back of the envelope' engineering to not forget efficiency. To deliver that 27 Watts, that supply will need well over that for input (probably 15 or 20%). This is why it gets warm in use. Those 'lost Watts' are converted to heat.

Likewise the inverter will need more power on the input side, sometimes a fair bit more depending on levels. Many such inverters are designed to be less efficient at lower power levels in order to be more so at higher levels were it really matters. This is a factor in the 'don't used a huge inverter for small loads' thing.

By all means mess around with it. But I can assure you I don't find 3 Amps necessary. I'm using a kluge right now that regulates 12 Volts down to 9 for charging and that regulator is limited to two Amps. But like I said I measure numbers closer to half an Amp. 3 is not needed IMO.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this post. Where do I find his accessories?

Most items I currently sell are listed on my Etsy store (Ascent accessories here), though coming soon, I'll start introducing special items which are available exclusively on my Shapeways store in exotic materials like metals and ceramics.

I have several custom Ascent accessories and would like to share pictures with you all.

Does anyone know if/how pictures can be posted using this site from an iPhone. Is it not working because I'm mobile, do I need a computer?

Thanks for the help, but sadly it will not let me upload any images from my iPhone . It says my version of iOS does not allow file uploading. Sorry folks, I'll have to search for another way...

Thanks OF, for the info. My inverter is a small one 50W it should do the job. Now I just need to create a battery pack like yours for the Ascent!
