FC Meet Up, 2016 Cannabis Cup, somewhere in CO

I have yet to see a firm date on the Denver Cup but will keep an eye out to see if the April dates reported by @Magic9 hold true.

They have held a Cannabis Cup around 4/20 in Denver since 2010 I believe. 2015 will most likely be no different. It's kind of the place to be.

It's good you are planning now, because trying to meet people at the largest cannabis event in the world is pretty damned hard to do. Especially when there is really no good place to sit/chill/sesh which has been the case the past few years IME. So many people, so very little space.

Not trying to harsh anyone's mellow just sharing some advice from past experiences.

I might make the drive over there but more for the FC meetup than the cannabis cup. I moved around so much as a kid I never developed an accent, I am quite neutral in speech. This helped in my sales career I believe. Also the ability to add a very subtle east coast or western slant, maybe on a word or two here and there, that helped grease things as we got to know each other.

I have always wanted to attend the Cup. But now that recreational MJ is legal there, I don't feel quite the same about the CUP. Sounds like a potential for shortages of goodies. It will be like trying to meet up with friends at Disney World. I'm still down, just putting thoughts out there.

I never realized that there ever was such a thing as not having an accent. Don't we all have an accent to one extent or another? I mean, I don't think I have an accent, but I also have no doubt that someone else would think that I do.

You may have a mix of many accents dub, but no accent? I don't think that's possible. Being that you moved around so much when you were a kid, maybe you subconsciously change your accent depending on who you are talking to (many people who have been exposed to different accents do this) so the people that you're talking to don't recognize that you have an accent.

Here's an interesting read on accents: http://linguistlist.org/ask-ling/accent.cfm

Edit: I haven't thought about this stuff in ages since I was in tech school (Communication Intelligence) when I was in the Air Force. I wasn't a Linguist (was an Intercept/Analyst Cryptographer) but a lot of the guys who I was stationed with were and we had some interesting discussions about this very topic. The different accents that occurred within the Soviet Union and occurs within China was mind-boggling.

Well if you speak then you have an accent. What I'm saying is that mine is not discernible unless maybe you were an expert like in "My Fair Lady". Its not east coast, definitely not southern, and its not western either. No twang or anything and I tend to use few words these days anyways. Maybe we could call it the old hermit accent . . . :myday:

How about an FC International convention - FC CON 2015?

Ya know, if done right, that could really work. The first ever vaporizer only convention. Contact every vaporizer manufacturer in the business and sell them booth space. Contact all vaporizer distributors to sell booth space. Contact all the news outlets, both international outlets, national outlets AND local outlets to get them to print stories about a young but emerging market populated by many entrepreneurs who are working at the cutting edge of technology to create not only a healthier and more economical way to consume cannabis, but to also to present their aesthetic talents and woodworking skills in producing some of the most beautiful pieces of functional art to market.

"The FC International Vaporizer Convention"
A Healthier Alternative

I'm really liking the idea of a FC International Vaporizer Convention!

I think more people on this forum would be able to attend especially if we made the event during the summer.

We would definitely need the help of some of the mods to get sponsors, vendors, etc!

We could rent out a venue and make it more accessible for a meet and greet style event since @aesthyrian confirmed that is hard to do at the Cup (especially since it will probably be crazy busy this year because of the legality now).

Lots of places to chill and talk, a vape and dab bar where you could test out companies vaporizers and maybe some glass blowers could bring pieces to test/buy :D

If enough people like this idea better than meeting at the Cannabis Cup, maybe the mods could change the thread title to "FC Meet Up - International Vaporizer Convention"

My field is Applied Linguistics and I am quite interested in accents, regional variations, etc. I am Australian and am always told that I don't sound Australian which I take as a compliment lol. I think some people are still under the impression that we all speak like Mick Dundee. For an accent to be neutral I think it implies that there is an accent which is considered to be the standard. I don't believe that exists these days with English being used so widely around the world both as a first and second language as well as a lingua franca. Not to disagree with T-Dub though as I also feel that my lack of a 'distinctive' accent has also helped my career and I also often vary my vowel sounds depending on who I am communicating with. Internationally for example, people refer to an American accent. We all know that there are many diverse accents that all fall under this banner.

Back on topic though, as an international FC member I am definitely interested in an FC meet-up if I can make it. It would be great to meet a lot of you guys in the flesh and not to mention that the good old USA offers possibly the greatest possible cannabis experience in this world (depending on the state of course). I would much prefer to visit the USA than say The Netherlands for cannabis related fun.

Well, I know where I'm heading to make purchases if I make it to Denver. Do we get an FC group discount too? :brow:

I wish it were possible.

we do provide "neighborhood," military veterans, seniors, and spouse/child discounts.
including the typical industry or employee discounts.

but if FC'ers happened to be in Denver I would be happy to hang out with you guys. meet up at the hotel, smoke out with my D-Nail and glass collection.

Can you confirm when the 2015 cup will be @Naeco06 ? If it's September, I'm there since it gives me a some more time to save hotel/plane.
Great links too, thanks for those.

Alert readers will notice that we have removed several posts concerning @Naeco06's offer to organize or host and FC meet-up until FC staff have had a chance to sort out FC policy concerning the content of some of his posts. Thanks for your patience.

Wow, I didn't think he did anything other than offer his hospitality and to help us get accommodated...hmm, I hope it's all good.

yeah I didn't realize that just shooting the sh*t was such a big deal.
oh well.

I sent them a msg about my intentions on the forum.
by which I mean I have no intentions. just trying to chat candidly with people in the culture. not trying to profit or advertise.

Cool, cool. I will ask you stuff in PM when the time comes. I just hope I can get in there (the cup, a flight, and a room) being I can't afford to do this until after Christmas. So has it all been straightened out? They know now that you weren't pulling any shenanigans? I hope so.

Shooting the :shit: is fine when it doesn't break the rules. Your posts have been restored, but as I explained to you they have been edited to remove content that broke the rules.

I almost wish I could see what statements broke the rules. It didn't seem like anything that was said was detrimental to the rules, but things can be interpreted differently by different people. I know for sure that @Naeco06 was just offering hospitality and assistance as I have no clue where it is (the Cup), what hotels are weed friendly, etc. If I should've asked in PM, then I'm sorry...I thought the information would be beneficial for everyone. It's all good, we are just trying to see if it's feasible to have a meet and greet since so many seemed interested. I'm sure no stepping of toes or breaking of rules was intentional by anyone here. Apologies to everyone here, mods, etc, if I have stated anything that stepped on toes or broke any rules or if starting this thread in any way violated anything...I saw interest, so I started the thread with ONLY the intent of it being something cool for us to meet each other and it just so happened that the idea was put out there that meeting at the CC in Denver would be a good place and time. I don't know, it just seems people are just trying to be nice and help each other out.

It was not a matter of interpretation. Discussing a moderator decision is against the rules. Please stick to the meet-up discussion.

Edited to clarify: no rules were broken intentionally, so no warning points were given—but rules were clearly broken. The thread itself is fine, and I wish everyone who attends all the best. I'd like to go myself, but that's unlikely.

it's cool Diamond, I'm not bothered.
just caught off guard but it looks like a simple email cleared it up.

I understand their rules.
