Weird News Stories of the Day.....

Can't trust those hairdressers/barbers. They've been pissed ever since doctors took over the practice of surgery.

Actually it proved nothing.

The method used for recovering the mitochondrial DNA is controversial and was invented by the scientist who made this 'discovery'; the provenance of the scarf is so questionable that Scotland Yard refused to include it in an exhibit on the Ripper when they owned it and they subsequently sold it, not likely if it is really from a Ripper crime scene; the researchers entertained no alternative hypothesis for how the semen got on the scarf (the scarf of a prostitute - and please keep in mind that none of the victims were sexually assaulted, nor was there any evidence of masturbation at the crime scenes); the suspect had no medical or even butchery training, yet somehow managed to remove a kidney through the front of a victim, in the dark, in a matter of minutes, without cutting up any other organs; and the people behind the 'discovery' just happen to be publishing a book on the Ripper in the next week.

Sorry to be a spoilsport, but I studied the Ripper case extensively when I was a historian. There is a lot more credible evidence for other suspects, including one of Victoria's sons, her physician, and a friend of both of those people. And another dude whose name escapes me at the moment, but whose knives have been forensically connected to the murders and was suspected of other murders (and left England just before the murders ended).

People are taking off work so they can watch the new video game Destiny. I talked to someone today that said her brother was taking a week off from work. If that's what you want to spend your vacation days on - different priorities.

6+ hours and counting before it comes out. I could have put this with Gamers, but it's one of the stories of the day.

“Imagine being on your knees at your father’s funeral beside his casket, saying goodbye to him — and then you have nine orgasms right there,” he said. “While your whole family is standing behind you.”

I can not imagine this without laughing. That is a hilariously tragic ailment..

And that arrest happened REALLY quick which never happens in a police shooting.

Wedding Dress Train Stretches for 2.5 Miles
Tourism officials in southwestern China have come up with a novel way to promote their region as a wedding destination: a dress with a two-and-a-half-mile train.

The 5-foot-wide train cost about $6,500 and took a month to make, according to local media reports cited by Reuters. It was worn by a model during a promotional event in a valley near Chengdu on Wednesday.

What a dumb thing to spend your money on IMO. I guess just for rich people in China.

EDIT
Just the train cost $6500

While I wouldn't spend my money on it, $6500 is a drop in the bucket for some of the weddings I've been to. That said, it's a damn cheap way to get your city/province/region in the international news. That's probably the cheapest commercial ever, lol.

Bizarre ‘alien’ sea creature caught off Singapore . . . :o
Ong Han Boon said:
"When I pulled it out of the water, I was completely flummoxed by what I was looking at,” he told a local radio station. “I’ve had quite a few odd things come out of the ocean, but I have never seen anything like this before in my life. It had all these arms waving around. . . It’s either an alien or I’ve discovered a new species of mutant sea creature, which would not surprise me with all the pollution they put in the water nowadays.”

Missing Vietnamese tanker hijacked and released by pirates

mpwbYBIM.jpg

The Vietnamese oil tanker Sunrise-689, which was reported missing on October 3, was hijacked by pirates who stole oil and then released the ship, which is returning to Vietnam, a Vietnamese agency said Thursday morning.

>> Vietnam seeking outside help in search for missing ship
>> Search underway for missing tanker with 18 Vietnamese sailors

The ship, which is owned by the Hai Phong Fishery Shipbuilding Company, is sailing to the southernmost province of Ca Mau, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (Vietnam MRCC) reported.

The High Command of the Vietnam Coast Guard, under a directive of the Ministry of Defense, has dispatched two boats to rendezvous with the ship, the National Committee for Search and Rescue said.

One of these boats – CSB 2004 – left Ca Mau this morning, while the other – CSB 2001 – left Phu Quoc. After leaving the island at 7am, CSB 2001 came into contact with the tanker 30 minutes later, and is expected to reach the ship by noon, the committee added.

The ship was reported missing on October 3 while it was carrying over 5,200 tons of oil from Singapore to Vietnam’s nothern Quang Tri Province...

No Joke: The Redskins Are Suing Five Native Americans

WASHINGTON (AP) — Five Native Americans are asking a Virginia judge to dismiss a lawsuit the Washington Redskins filed after the group successfully challenged the team's name, arguing it is offensive.

Lawyers for both sides were expected in federal court in Alexandria on Friday, where a judge was scheduled to hear arguments on whether the lawsuit should be thrown out.

The five won a victory earlier this year when a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office board ruled that six trademark registrations on the team's name should be canceled because they were "disparaging to Native Americans" when registered. The board acted after the group of Native Americans petitioned it to cancel the trademark registrations.

After the board's action, the team in August sued the five Native Americans, asking a federal court to stop the cancellation from happening.

The team, which has used Redskins as part of its name since 1933, says in court papers that the patent office board was wrong and that its trademarks are proper because the term was not offensive when the trademarks were registered. The team says canceling the trademarks, which were registered between 1967 and 1990, would violate the Constitution.

Lawyers for the five Native Americans argue that the Redskins' lawsuit against them should be dismissed because the team's real dispute is with the patent office.
