Discontinued Inhalater INH05/5S/6

Okay, lots of venting going on in this thread, some defensive posturing, and a fair bit of speculation.

That all doesn't make for the most practical thread.
Let's get a bit more scientific (statistical).
  1. Melting plastic.
    1. In fact I only see 2 or 3 people in this thread mentioning the melting plastic. I see about that many, maybe more, saying that they haven't had the problem. (Does anyone want to do a definitive tally?) It seems to me that the one user posting pictures of the melting really freaked out the whole thread, combined with Inhalater's response, such that the problem is possibly overblown -- well maybe not that the problem is overblown, but that the likelihood of it occurring is overblown.
    2. Is it confirmed that the plastic will only melt under both of the following conditions:
      1. Vaping at highest temperature (which is indeed quite high and probably not what we should be setting it to anyhow)
      2. Removing the capsule while it is at its hottest temperature?
    3. If #2 is true, then it follows that that:
      1. The vape can be used at its hottest temperature, if 2-minute cool-down is allowed before removing capsule.
      2. The vape does not require a 2-minute cool-down before removing the capsule, if it wasn't being used at the highest temperature
  2. Charge time.
    1. Those that are having long charge times, what is the amperage of the charger?
    2. Can anyone say they have had standard (say, 8 hour from empty to full) charge times? If so, do you know the amperage of your charger?
    3. Does anyone know what that maximum possible input amperage of the 05? Are we seeing different charge times with 2 amp chargers vs 1 amp chargers? Has anyone tried anything higher than 2 amps?
    4. Does anyone know the output amperage of the charger that shipped with the XP (mine was white, flat unit with triangular sides.)
    5. Does anyone feel like tallying the people in the thread that have said they are having slow charge times vs people that have said their charge times are fine?
So yeah, I think we'd be better served if we started aggregating the user reports. It's feeling kind of off the handle in here.

Peace,
Simmy

Every user with a glass capsule reported melting and it was more than just me with the polymide melting as well.

I have said from the beginning I hope its mine alone, but it doesn't seem to be.

@simmy : what doesn't help too is that (and please correct me if I'm wrong) it seems a few people in the thread got access to beta units and those were still using the same (white?) part/material as the XP. Someone said the change was "not beta-tested".

So of course these people are not going to report any problem...

I believe I'm the only FC member that received a beta INH05 {which was all white} and I thought my beta 05 chamber sleeve being that it was white was still made of the Teflon material... but after a few emails between Greg and I.... I was straightened out and decided to take a closer look at my INH05 beta {remember I complained everything was loose and often would fall out.... oops maybe I didn't report that on this thread because I was told it had already been identified and the tolerances were being tightened up for the production run....

My biggest frustration with my beta unit was in fact how the caps would just fall out along with my load... I also reported that to Greg but he again told me that it was only the beta units that were a bit too loose... so I was OK cool
Well after reading this thread and the reports of melting plastic..... a tiny little bulb came on and I thought to myself that might be why my caps are all way too loose in my beta unit.....

Anyway sorry for the mix up...my beta INH05 did in fact have the plastic chamber sleeve {beta unit just happened to be white plastic}.... and I personally never saw any signs of melting and I almost always end my load on 8.5 or 9 depending on the herb I'm using...:peace:

Its definitely not just you. I have melted plastic on multiple caps, polymide and glass. I also use the unit on temps 5-7 often. I am convinced that this will end up occurring on all units, just may take additional use or removal of a cap at the wrong time. I will admit that I often use 2 caps back to back so I have removed the caps prior to the 120 sec rule but again, being able to go back to back with the caps should be common as it is on just about ALL other vapes. Aside from the issues, is anyone concerned that we are vaping through a cap made of some sort of "medical" film??? I sure am hence why I ordered the glass caps and to be honest, because of the glass cap option, was the only reason I purchased the INH05 in the first place as I was hoping to replicate the Solo experience in a smaller more stealth footprint. Hey @arizer, its time to step it up!!!

I have my glass capsule for a week now, and I have no melting plastic on my unit. Maybe i'm lucky, but I do 2 to 3 sessions per day close to 8.5 and I remove my capsule right after each session!
My friend don't have any melthing sign on is unit too!

Here are my first impressions with my unit:
  • Had some melting occur with my glass capsule. The glass capsule also was extremely hot and taste wasn't significantly improved. I paid 20$ for a single one, when Inhalater stated we would be getting a set for the price. Not worth it
  • The LED light is definitely extremely bright, but black electrical tape works to cover the black models well.
  • Taste seems roughly the same as with the XP. Maybe slightly worse...
  • The unit is indeed much lighter and smaller.
  • The cap isn't perfectly flat on the top, meaning you cannot set the unit upright when storing the cap on the bottom.
  • The new hygienic tips are smaller and cheaper than the ones given with the XP. They do not fit as well.
  • The 05 seems to heat up much faster than the XP.
  • Battery charge time is definitely long, but most batteries should be kept near full charge so I don't see it problematic. I always use a 3amp charger anyway, so i don't notice it.
  • The USB charger still seems slightly off set (plugging it into charge requires effort to align the charger in the port.

Overall, I don't see much improvement from the XP. Seems like we got a smaller body, quicker heat up times and a cap holder in exchange for a laser pointer LED, longer charge time and cheaper hygienic tips. USB issues may still be present, glass capsules didn't contribute much and the taste is the same. Battery swapping still seems like more a hazard than a perk.

As far as XP vs 05 goes, I would say there aren't any improvements.

As far as the Inhalater vs other vapes goes, I would still rank the Inhalater at the top. It's extremely small, extracts well, and gives large hits. The stealth and ease of use is unbeatable. Other vapes that offer this level of portability, stealth and ease of use do not extract or hit nearly as well.

I'd still recommend users buy one if they enjoy a pocket vape that hits like a blunt. There are better, cheaper options if you are willing to sacrifice a little portability / stealth (top one in my mind is the solo).

Awesome post, you hit the nail on the head with all the differences I seen between xp and 05. and you are right, no vape I've tried match inhalaters performance.. My ascent hasn't been used in months lol.

It seems to me that majority of the changes to the Inhalater are internal, and are meant to address the flaws of the previous design that lead to the issues many people experienced. I wouldn't say there is no difference, rather that the differences are under the hood. Only time will tell if this tangibly increases the reliability - but I have a good feeling about it.

Nice review. I agree with your conclusions....the INH is awesome when it comes to ease of use and stealth. It's not my fave portable (I'm not holding my breath, pun intended, for any vape to rival the FF in my heart), but it's my new fave on-the-go stealth machine. I won't leave home without it!

I agree with you!
I posted before there is more convection with the 05 than with the Xp, it's not a full convection vape, but it use it more now, my abv comes out lighter than with the previous unit until level 7, but at 8 and 9 it becomes a funky cloudy machine increased by a lot of conduction, I can't draw dry on it at high temp, it need a WT here, or you have iron lungs!

And yes I agree too about its performances, it is on the top level of the portable vapes if you look for clouds AND taste in the same unit (the i-mag+ is nice too...), cause for taste the FW is great, and for clouds the T-Vape is nice too, but there few units able to give you both clouds and taste in the same vape.......and the use convenience is amazing!

I didn't get any melting issue.....and yes i wait a bit before to take off the caps and sometime, as my Hercules, I take some draws to cool down (unit off)

Actually I forgot a bit my Xp but it will sit in my car and the 05 will sit in my pocket!

Inhalater, do you contact us for any perc replacement since you told us to discontinue glass caps? (but if you have still glass caps i'll want one or 2)

I recieved 2 of the first inhalaters sent out. Upon recieving them I put a capsule in each one and cranked them up to 9 to do a burn off on the unit and capsules to be safe (I have read not to do this, but I did).

I repeated this for a half hour.
I then pulled the capsules out (not burnt at all) then turned the unit to 9 and looked for off gassing, it was good to go.

I have used it only about a dozen times (due to lack of meds) and IMO this thing is a little champ!
I vape starting at 5.5 then slowly go to 7.5 (the water tool adapter takes it to another level!)
I may have got lucky with my units, our perhaps my unit is the way its supposed to work and a few bad units slipped through.
I for one love my INH05.

After hearing all the bashing of the unit I don't know how many people are speaking from experience with their 05 our just going by the hear say.

If you do have an issue with your unit try calling Greg and act civilized, he is a great guy and super passionate about his work. I'm sure if you discuss your issue calmly he will do his best to rectify your situation.

This is just my opinion. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I have not had a chance to use my unit for its intended purpose (stopped toking during the week), but after reading about the melting plastic issues I put in a capsule of ABV and cranked it up to 9. I inserted and removed the capsule at least a dozen times with a minute of heating between each, and I cannot discern any deformation of the plastic, let alone melting. Far from a scientific test - but I will keep an eye on it and update if anything happens to my unit. I do not have a glass capsule to test.

I will update shortly with some information regarding batteries and chargers as well once my tests have concluded. At the moment I am testing the charge time on an iPad 12W charger and will also be testing various 1A and 500mA chargers to see how they affect it. The design of the inhalater makes it fairly difficult to get readings from the battery while it is being charged, so all I will have to go on at this point is general charge time. Hopefully @Inhalater can chip in with some information regarding the charging circuit soon, as I am really interested to know at what rate it's set to charge the cell at.

I do believe he did chime in a while back to inform us that the internal ICU was limited to 800ma..... If this is true ....you should be able to note a difference going from a .5a to a 1a...but after that 2a etc. will all likely be limited by the max 800ma / .8a....:peace:

You sir, are a scholar and a saint.

Well probably not a saint, but this was the exact type of review I was looking for. I lucked out on my Q2 unit still chugging away, however, my friend had to send his away in 3 times and the quality of the new units (Q3/Q4?) is pathetic compared to the Q2.

I was interested to see how the XP would compared to the 05, especially in regards to the glass capsule and i'm happy to say you answered every question and then some. Only other question is, what XP is yours, a Q2 as well?

Thanks for your review!

A topic near and dear to me.....the Q2 "Beast".... was so happy to hear there is an original still working... how I would love to do a side by side with my resurrected Q2 {installed a Q2 heating element on a failed Q4}
I'll explain... the thing that has been causing these various versions to operate & perform so differently has been the actual heating elements and sensor locations {Q3 had an additional issue as the Max temp was accidentally lowered} everything else has stayed the same. The reason for these changes were to reduce or eliminate "Hot spots" thereby equalizing the transference of heat in the heating chamber...

The Q2 was an amazing again accidental discovery {opportunity for discovery anyway} of how best to fine tune this particular design {still trying to convince Greg} :bang:

You expressed an interest in the XP verses 05 {mine beta} when utilizing glass..... my GF and I love the glass with the XP but not so much with the 05.... you see the glass helps tremendously to dampen the "Hot spots" so it aids in equalizing the heat chamber...and the taste improve dramatically because of its glass after all.... The interesting tid bit was that although we did like the 05 with glass but still preferred the XP w/glass verses the 05 {beta} with glass..... and now that I have a reborn Q2 w/glass I am very happy....the only draw back to that is the USB will likely give out.....:ugh:

What I was hoping for was a Q2 inside a 05 body so that the USB was protected as this was the biggest improvement made to this design....heat equalization was good also IMHO it did improve the taste a bit.....:2c:

I wish you luck with you new unit! Mine is still going strong, 4+ sessions a day at 6.5-7.5 with no melting issues. Very happy with my 05.

@PAZ Glad I could help. My XP was a Q3 model. This is the model that had the ghetto fix for the USB issue. Hand cut USB port that didn't work at all. My Q3 broke after about 8 months. Just in time to claim my warranty

If you were excited about the glass capsules before my post, I suggest you make your own. Someone posted a way to make your own glass capsules in the XP thread. No melting there!

@Old School I'm right with you man, the Q2... Greg definitely needs to relook that design.

Q2 design with the smaller XP body sounds amazing. Add glass capsules and legit swappable batteries...
