The Lotus Vaporizer

Wouldn't you know it, I get a surprise from China in the form of my D020--2--W and five minutes later my lighter goes crap. Dying to have my cake and vape it, too, but the Universe has other plans.

Thanks the pro-tip! Hoping the J-hook will suffice for the time being but very interested in the piece you linked, couldnt believe the price when I saw it.
No problemo. I think you'll be happy with the J-Hook for a while, especially if it's curved enough (you can run a small amount of water in it). You might even be content enough with the aluminum stem, I find it preferable to a dry JHook.

And yeah, any of the D020 series are great, look through Sunshinestore / Yingmin5 on DHGate for more. Highlights always featured in the Cheap High Quality Bubbler thread. Almost can't go wrong! Good luck

Wait, so the inner flame is supposed to correspond in length to the distance between two petal tips? I thought the entire flame – outer flame and all – was supposed to be roughly that length. Wouldn't having the inner flame at 1/2" lead to a lot of accidental combustion?

:hmm:

It'd depend on technique, but I've found so much success with the flame this way. Just a matter of controlling draw speed, but at this size you have a good amount of heat that you don't have to run for very long.

Having brought another new vape into my collection, I must admit Lotus is still my favorite!
Perhaps I have not ridden the learning curve of my other vapes long enough, but Lotus continues to be the most efficient vape for me by a long run. I typically use 1.5 scoops, and extract in 1-3 draws depending on what I seek. But each draw is very satisfying and each draw capable of busting lungs.

Thank you Max for the upgraded plate, I really appreciate your keeping me running!

Woooooooow thank you so much @Atomsk @FlyingLow with just flame length and draw speed i was finally able to get a cloud on the lotus. I've had my lotus a little over a month and out of all my vapes this one was a challenge :hmm:. I had multiple sessions different strains and never got a lung buster. I could get a hit but not a full one to satisfy and id always combust:bang:. If i pulled hard id get nothing, but if my draw was very slow id get a decent hit, but was able to combust. Until now with flame length right and draw speed slow, but not to slow i was able to get that hit i was missing i feel like a fool:doh::lmao::lol:. Thnx for all the tips they were real helpful and i will be using my lotus a lot more now:tup:.

With a big enough flame (1/2"-5/8") you can draw more freely and this way you get bigger clouds and better taste ime and is more difficult to get combustion… In fact I never get combustion when I draw fast enough. In fact I never got combustion with V2! Very slow draws can do that. You also keep your hits short with a biggish flame and don't need more than 4 secs of preheat.

I just went back to the Lotus website to look at some things. I notice the pipe cover I received doesn't have the little grooves in the metal plate like the ones pictured. I purchased directly from MT. Did I receive the old style plate or the new plate?

Never mind. I went back several pages. Apparently the grooves are the old plate. I'll continue on creating my dimple. :)

A tip if your load is not fine ground as it's tacky or you've overfilled it. Do several light vapes until it dries and shrinks enough and use the stirrer to prod and poke it. vape again and it should stir easy now on.

grip it, rip it, hold on to your ass!

I found youtube to be a good resource for technique. It is just much easier to see someone's technique on video than it is to type about it.

You will soon find, the Lotus is like a dance or a balancing act. You must coordinate all of the following for the ideal session:

  • Flame length
  • Distance you are holding torch from the plate
  • Speed of your breath
The other variable is your material, some kinds just vape better than others. I am not necessarily referring to strain, but your moisture, density, grind, etc. will all come into play with the Lotus.

Have fun with it, learning and exploring the limits is a joy!

My face is melting...
I'd use both TBH. Would be a way to sell new ones to existing Lotus culters. Also would help me avoid the temptation to smoke a pure one when I need a fat blast.

Dabbing is not that common in the UK. But it does seem to end up in some kind of arms race to a high tolerance.

I had a little over 2 weeks abstinence recently really reset my tolerance.

I'd definitely get a larger bowl one if one was available

I'd like a deeper bowl. Maybe with a smaller diameter cap.....more conventional pipe-like in appearence for stealths sake.

An aluminum J-hook made from the same stock as the aluminum stem is something I think many would pay a premium for.

I use angled tweezers for loading my bowls. Works like a champ.

My Lotus should be here tomorrow! Been checking the tracking updates frequently since yesterday, good thing I live in Cali! I also amended my order and added the Long Aluminum Stem, regretted not picking it up after reading more throughout this thread!

Was thinking my Pax was going to still be my travel buddy, and it might still work out that way, but when traveling with the Lotus I would much rather have the AL stem vs. that J-hook!

So stoked, ordered some butane torches from Amazon and going to find some Butane tomorrow morning at LHS just in time for my package to arrive.

I agree, would love a deeper bowl for longer sessions, smaller cap would be great, too. Lotus mini? The thought of an aluminum j hook stem spikes my curiosity as well...

So I bought my lotus shortly before the revised cap came around and then I got my UD not long after. So at first I kind of neglected the lotus a bit from the attention we all know it deserves. I have been using it quite a bit lately and have hardly even turned on my desktop vapes pretty much all summer. The lotus is a beast I love this thing and even hit it dry mostly through the stock stem the flavor is great and it smacks. Unfortunately the wear tear is taking a toll on my cap. This was taken probably 2 weeks ago and the crack seems to be getting worse now at a much quicker pace then when it was first spotted. It's at about 7 o'clock near the darker patch, much easier to see when your heating obviously.

Puffers,
I can't actually see the crack in your pic, but the new plates aren't very expensive. I bought a new one to keep on hand as a spare.
Mine has the same older plate, purchased in January, but no cracks yet. I would ask about the possibility of a warranty replacement, depending on how old it is.

Will the new lotus with the stir stick fit on the d020 with a 18-14 reducer?

Yes it does, I just tried it last night. The draw was good with the d020 but I felt a little uncomfortable with the flame close to my face. I also tried it with the D022 for the first time and felt the draw was way too restricted. Looks like I need to find a piece with the resistance of a d020 but bigger in size. I'm going to ask about it in the cheap glass thread.

All good ideas and deserve some thought.

Can you guys actually finish a bowl in 1 hit? Maybe I'm doing something wrong but on my Herbalizer, I vape for 10-15 minutes (don't have my lotus yet - it was supposed to arrive today but it didn't. Stupid USPS).

I guess it depends on your lung capacity and how much you fill it up.

Using the Lotus scoop, I can vape 1 scoop in 1 hit easily. 2 scoops (about 0.1g) is like 1 enormous hit, 1 wispy hit to get the AVB to almost super dark brown.

Got my Lotus earlier today and just test drove it. Pretty damn sweet. Love the looks and the performance, very delightful. Followed the directions that came with the unit and got some pretty decent clouds..The first inhale was the bomb and the subsequent hits were great tasting as well.

Took me a couple of tries but I am pretty lifted. Need to work on slowing down my draw i believe, will try again in the morning.

My Fav vaporizer thus far. Thanks for the recommendation!
