Discontinued Elevape SV

Reading up while (patiently, anxiously)waiting for my Elevape to arrive and I'm wondering, if the unit features a draw/turn on type operation(I'm pretty psyched about that if I'm understanding that correctly!), how, if at all, are you guys doing an initial burn in? Are you huffing on it dry for a full session?
I, like others here, suffer the curse/blessing of higher sensitivity and hope this one isn't the type of unit that has a strong machine smell or taste.

Initially I didn't do a burn off but now after cleaning with ISO I blow through the USB port. This powers on the unit and should help the burn off without inhaling any fumes

Pretty much no off taste at all, this device is the cleanest I've ever used, or equal to my Thermovape maybe. You can take it apart and clean with everything too, so there no real burn in since its just that coil and you pull the hit air. It really is instant heating as you inhale. I do a 1-3sec primer puff, then take an 8sef drag until the red light blinks and turns off (autoshutoff). Taste isn't quite as good as some others after the first few hits, but I think that's due to aluminum (not as pure as stainless steel and glass) and how it cooks. Its not an off taste, not electronic or gluey or anything, you mostly just taste the herb. Sometimes though, without stirring enough it can taste bad from one area overcooking, but that's a common convection issue that Ive seen in other vapes

I noticed that VapoShop in Europe added the EV to their catalogue, but it's 350 euros, making it 20 euros less than the MiniVap... That's about $460 at the current exchange rate! :uhh:

On a completely unrelated note, I read a few posts ago something about blowing inside the USB port, and I remembered this small detail that was discussed earlier in the thread... What is the current consensus about that? Is the USB port really part of or exposed to the air-path?

There is actually a small air gap around the USB port so it's not like your drawing through the port.

Another observation, every once in awhile the light doesn't blink at 8 sec and keeps going, these hits tend to be huge.

After toasting a bowl at level three and reloading, don't forget to lower the temps to level 1.

I made a small sheaf(sp?) for my stir stick. It's taped to the side of the sv and holds it snug and handy.

Ok, so I've got the app going, and when I plug the ESV into the computer, the green light comes on. And I've jammed the cord in there as good as it can possibly go but my app still won't show as reading any device.

What am I doing wrong here?

Try a different cable. Mine started doing exactly the same thing intermittently so I tried the cable from my phone on a hunch and the app got a rock solid connection.

Eventually I'll get around to contacting Joe for a replacement because I like that really short cable.

Well, no other cords to be found at the moment, so I guess we'll have to wait on that issue...

My first hour or so with the ESV. I have a few gripes / questions, but as far as performance of the unit goes, I am impressed ... so far.

Am relieved that I don't have to grind. I fucking hate grinding. Like the FF, it does fine with whole chunks or finger-torn pieces.

I was "blowing" the ESV to do a "burn-off" and I was surprised at the near instantaneous blast of hot air that greeted me. Those lithium polymer batts seem to really pack a wallop. I had the cover open and the heat hit my fingers and it was almost uncomfortably warm, even at level 1. I thought maybe my levels were "jank," but when in use with herbs, the temps seem to be just fine. I still prefer the idea of user-swappable batteries, but we'll see. Will be interesting to see how the batts of the ESV hold up...

I had difficulty distinguishing between the orange and green colors of the charging process. Just me?

Opening and closing this thing can be a real bitch. I hope I get better at it.

Not that anyone cares, but the packaging was a little... bush league. Not much class or elegance to it. Didn't seem to reflect its price or potential.

Mine seems to have a little glue stain around the magnets. Plenty of little dings and nicks on the outside and two annoying raised scratches on the inside.

Enjoying it so far. But I'm going to be tough on this one... :|

Too bad you don't like grinding because it will give you more vapor in the SV.
But then again, if it works, keep doing it because if you hate grinding, with the SV,
there's the constant stirring too.

I don't have any problems with the green and orange altough they look alike when
I look from a distance.

Yes, in the beginning, opening is a bitch, but it will get (a little bit) easier.
I don't think it's because of wear and tear but because you will get the hang of it.
Also, you will notice it will go much easier when you just cleaned the device.

for best results, clean enough ! don't forget that little screen at the mouthpiece, it
doesn't need much to get clogged (when using a fine grind) and then it will slow
down the air intake and combustion could happen this way.
It's the same with the rest of the device, it just works better when clean.

I don't like the dings and nicks thing, it should arrive like new so maybe somebody
opened up your package somewhere? You can see if it's used before by the
silver ring in the oven, if it's new, there is no such "ring" yet.

I'm pretty sure if you give it some time to get to know this vape, you will start to love it.
This thing is actually fool proof to use but still has a learning curve...if you know what
I mean, it's easy to use but it takes some practice to make it the beast it can be.

Have fun!

I've found an easy way to get the lid off. With the cAp swiveled 180 degrees and facing down grab the sv so that the pointer finger and thumb wrap the unit
Ncd4lK0.jpg

Then with your thumb pry the lid up until it pops loose but not all the way off or it will spill.

Flip it over and take off lid. Here's a shot of my sheath.

Well, I'm already getting better at removing the lid. Seems like it just takes a couple dozen openings to "get it going," as it were. Also seemed to have found the right angle / force to make it look almost natural. I bet it'll be a smooth process after another few days.

I kept the ESV by my bed last night and had the opportunity of waking up around 5 and needing some medicine. Was definitely nice to just grab the thing and take a couple quick hits without thinking about it whatsoever, or having to change positions.

The flavor, I'd say, is about on par with the Ascent. Not as good as a Solo, and definitely not near the level of the Firefly. IMO.

I wish I could get a look at the entire vapor path, but I'm not in a position to risk the warranty.

Not sure I like the feel of anodized aluminum. The sound of it against my skin makes me a little uncomfortable. But for durability, I'm thinking it should work well. Can probably drop the hell out of this thing and it won't do any damage.

The thing is certainly not pretty to look at, but out in public, that should be a help. I can't wait to go strolling through a crowd while using it. A little hide in plain sight action...

Also, the thing is REALLY thick. It's short, sure, and even small, but it is WIDE!

I can't seem to take the mouthpiece off without the mouthpiece screen falling out. It keeps coming up / out with the mouthpiece. And my mouthpiece doesn't screw in very satisfyingly.

The level switch started to flake from the very first push. Also, it's difficult for me to get to level two. I have to somewhat carefully, slowly and firmly get it into place. I wish it had a more distinct, obvious position.

I'm nowhere near ready to "endorse" this product ( ), but I am having a lot of fun with it. If the level of success continues, this ESV will be my on-the-go vaporizer while my FF can stay safe at home...

My lid is easy to remove now, I think it's a combination of the o-ring easing up over time and getting my technique down.

I love the vapour quality of the ESV. It's become my main vape, it really suits my vaping style. I love the flavour. I'm not even that bothered by the stirring that much any more, but I do have little bits of ABV all over the place now, some always comes out when I stir.

What is everybody's impression on battery life? I've been using mine in tethered mode most of the time - hooked up to my laptop so I never have to even think about the battery. When I go unplugged though I often seem to feel like it's run out quickly.

I gonna say that battery life seems rather short. This vape does not like to be ignored and will go flat faster than some earlier portables. I keep an Anker power pack in the vehicle because EV likes to flash her red lights at me when I try and get my after noon mind right adjustment. It may be the smaller size of the battery which lends to shorter life(sorry, obvious). Still running on setting 1 with no software revisions as yet. No sign of a Mac tie-in either. Totally forgot about the mouthpiece screen, I will be yorking that out shortly. Nothing but good feeling for this machine. We learn to live with the flaws if the reward justifies....

Had two pretty different experiences with my ESV the past two days.

Friday was my first chance to use it on the go. Charged it up PLENTY the night before and saw what, I think, is the green light. Still can't really tell if it's green or orange. Anyway, after maybe 3-4 pulls, I had no more power. And plenty of hours away from home to go. :cuss:

So that sucked.

Then I bought a new micro to USB cable, hooked up to my comp, and suddenly my app could work, and I was still at 93 % charge. Charged it to 100 and the ESV started working again. Could not see any difference in the light while charging, or when it became fully charged, and I still couldn't tell what color it was.

My OEM cable just seems to not do the job. I'd really prefer one with a longer cord.

Used it today while on the go and it could not have gone better. I've never been able to take tokes this easily, quickly, or with such stealth while on the go as I did today with the ESV.

I was hitting this thing right in front of people and no one batted an eye.

Flavor continues to be better than expected. I don't have to stir all that much. My levels are working as I hoped. Vapor is really easy to create with this one. I used it today more than I normally would, and I was still at 74% charge when I got home. I'm a lightweight, but damn, that's pretty good, assuming it's correct.

My Elevape finally arrived.
Firstly, it's a winner. Unfortunately it's one of the most, if not the most expensive portable. VaporNation currently offers it at about $276(15% off their listed price), but all in all, I believe the function justifies the higher cost

Pros:

-Simple, strong build.
-Stealth on par with the MFLB., Not just portable but pocketable!
-Draw powered flower vape!
-No heat up time
-Exceptional clouds for a portable.
-Great flavor. It doesn't sport a huge oven but I think that's a good thing. I'm disappointed with the Pax because it cooks it's large oven load somewhat prematurely, burning off flavor before you get to it. That plus the Elevape, being "draw powered", places the Elevape well above the Pax IMO.
-Great carrying case included!
-DubeTube, the perfect accompaniment for loading and tamping!!!
http://www.planetvape.ca/doob-tubes.html
Great, not only for carrying along your meds(and you will likely want to carry more than one chamber's worth, remember, not a huge oven), but the bottom of a DubeTube fits perfectly into the Elevape chamber making it the perfect tamper.
"A connecting principle, linked to the invisible, almost imperceptible…"

Cons:

-The lid.
From what I'm reading here, it gets better, but it is a genuine struggle every time. Getting it started is tough, even once you get a corner to push around its tough, and pulling it off is tough. Getting it back on is a bit easier.
So, while it may get easier with usage, I'm not sure how anyone with arthritis is getting this lid on and off. Therefore IME,..
-Loading/dumping is a chore.
Thanks to @chillersnov8p 'or the lid management tutorial. Hope others will share their discoveries on better living with the Elevape "Vault".
-While the hits are excellent, I'm really only getting 3-4 solid draws, but that may change by increasing the temperature(haven't been able to access the app yet(see below)), and again, the oven is modest.
-Uneven extraction. Stirring's a must, which wouldn't be so bad if not for the for the chastity belt of a lid. You're likely to get charred bits, but they're really no big deal and are outweighed by the positives the unit offers.
-App didn't work on my PC, haven't tried it on my Mac, so I've basically used the default settings(only setting #2 at this point).
-Maybe I received a less than optimal one, but I'd supply different brushes with the unit. It's center wire is over an 1/8 of an inch longer than the reach of the brush's bristles, so in order to brush the grooves at the bottom of the sides of the chamber, you are invariably scratching your screen with that stiff, sharp metal wire, damaging the screen. I'll be trimming the excess to save my screens but it would be nice if the bristles continued up over the top of the brush(like the Flowermate's bristle brush), in order to brush the screen off.

Conclusion:
While there are a couple of issues worth revising in future iterations, this is a top shelf pocketable vape and may herald a new direction/era in portables.
The size vs function is outstanding.
The draw to activate, with no heat up time is a first in non-butane powered flower vapes, if I'm not mistaken.
I'd place it very near the Solo, and just above the Firefly(which I love).

Highly recommended!!

Peace to everyone! This is my first post on this forum. I got this Elevape last month after having the other 2 vaporizer. I would say this is the best stealth Vaporizer. The battery is not that superb, however he performs very well can be compared to black stallion. It superbly fast.

Oops. While I was doing the cleaning yesterday, been brushing the screen on top of the coil. And the ring that hold the screen fell off. Can't put it back. Can anyone help me on this issue please?

For my needs, the SV is a great little unit. It works instantly, no waiting. It is silent and concealable. It is proving itself to be reliable.

Current settings are 3, 8, 12 (with fairly dry buds, medium fine grind, no pack).

I've become fairly adept at popping the cap, stirring, dumping and loading while on the go. I use a cut down plastic coffee stirrer from Starbucks to stir and scrape the cap screen. A rubber band secures the stirrer to the SV.

I've retired my PAX and Flower Mate in favor of the SV. At home I use A Hammer or Flash Vape with Power Adapter.

If you're similar to ol' EDA, then you'll want to save this post for while you're on the crapper first thing in the morning. It'll fit right in... :shit:

Cause it's a big pile of shit, see?

ESV or FF ?

Here's the short version: Firefly for (mostly) at home, and ESV for (mostly) on the road. While plenty of crossover is possible, home use plays to the FF's strengths, and away-from-home use plays to the ESV's strengths, IMO.

So... both.

Yeah, I know. Pretty weak.

But this is somewhat an apples-to-oranges comparison here, even though they're both high-end on-demand convection dry herb portables. But I think they've been designed for rather different purposes.

I am fond of both of these devices - wouldn't be able to pick one or the other because they work pretty well as a team. I appreciate and enjoy the differences. Now I have the FF to meet my (mostly) daytime portable needs at home, and the ESV to do the same on the road. And a Solo to finish off all the ABV...

They both offer serious efficiency. I mention this early on because if you're like me, then the 100 % legal herbs that you seek cannot just be found down at the local store. Or even at a bordering state's local store. I'm lucky if my legal herbs even have a name. So... literally, EVERY toke matters when you find something good. It really does. I can't afford to let material drift away to conduction until late at night when I'm reusing ABV.

Okay, comparison time.

Taste

In my mind, this one is pretty obvious. When you want to savor flavor, the FF is the way to go, IMO.

I've certainly never seen Blueberry Diesel, or even know what it is, and am definitely not enjoying it right now with a very smug, satisfied look on my face, but if I were, I would imagine that it would taste fucking exquisite in the FF. :smug:

The ESV flavor is pretty darn good too, but I think the FF gives a bit more of a pure flavor. But for usage away from home, the flavor the ESV has to offer is great and won't feel like a compromise...

Looks

Again, to me, this one is pretty obvious. The FF is sleek and eye-catching and you want to show it off. It screams class and elegance. The ESV is... a black metal box. Plain and blah. It doesn't scream anything. Makes it perfect for using while you're on-the-go. And the FF can stay at home on the fireplace mantle or coffee table for when you get home...

Ease of Use

This one probably goes to ESV, due to its adjustable heat settings and lack of leaning curve and no heat button to press. Although when "mastered," a FF can offer a more unique experience, IMO.

You have to stir more with the ESV over the FF, IME. Often, if I grind, I don't have to stir at all with the FF, and it gives an even burn with a little shaking. The ESV will not give an even burn without stirring, and even with stirring I didn't find my ABV to be very even. Shaking seems to help it a little bit.

Trying to get the chamber open AND stir while on the go can be a serious pain in the ass with the ESV. With the FF, it's less difficult, but probably less stealthy.

Nevertheless, the ESV is certainly the more portable of the two, and more pocketable. The ability to charge it easily from an external battery pack is really nice.

With the ESV, you can at least check the battery level by hooking it up to the comp. Although, if your experience is similar to mine, you must supply your own cable! With the FF, you start to learn how long a battery lasts for your own particular usage.

Both, IME, benefit from a little "priming." Although, without priming, very tasty!

Neither give you many extra screens to work with. Lame!

For both, the ABV can be deceptively light, with the ESV ABV more prone to have little dark bits mixed in with light bits. Putting the material in the Solo will yield some wispy vapor, and turn the material much darker, but will have very little actual effect, IME.

Smell

Both units are NOT smelly, IMO. They ain't smell-free, but I wouldn't think twice about walking around with either in my pocket. If you pack them away and zip them up and then open it up later, some aroma will come out, but nothing worth worrying about unless you're not vaporizing 100% legal herbs and are opening up your case in the middle of a police station directly under a well trained police officer's nose in a room free of any other smells whatsoever. :ko:

Convection! Never again will I buy a conduction portable.... :nope:

Stealth

ESV, all the way. I sat there today in a busy public place on a bench with the ESV and it could not have gone smoother. Now, I had nothing to worry about, as I was vaporizing 100% legal herbs, but I was worried people might think I wasn't. Luckily, there was virtually no smell created, so people knew I was a good, decent, honest, law-abiding citizen, and not some sort of weed degenerate. :dog:

Battery

Well, depends on how you look at it. The ESV, IMO, offers fantastic battery life, all things considered. The amount of power it can give off for how long it can give it off is impressive. But you will have downtime. And depending on your connection, it can charge pretty slowly. And, AFAIK, the batts are not replaceable? The FF battery life ain't great, but are designed to be changed in a second. They charge much faster. With the external charger and extra battery, you're never waiting. But you have to pay for that luxury.

I just like to have the ESV fully charged and packed and ready to go by the car keys. And with my FF, I just use it until the battery goes dead then switch it up and charge it up.

Loading

Slight edge to FF because it's so much easier to open.

Heat Up Time

Slight edge to ESV. But we're talking SECONDS here. Hard to believe, isn't it?

Cleaning

Slight edge to FF, because it's so much easier to open and get to all necessary areas. But, with some little effort, the ESV cleaning might be a little more thorough. Maybe a tie?

Airpath

This one goes to FF, and is reflected in the flavor quality, IMO. Plus, I've seen the entire airpath of the FF.

Build Quality

This one goes to the FF. My ESV had glue spills and scratches and a flaky temp level button right out of the box. My FF was perfect, and still looks incredible 9 months later. My ESV already looks beat up.

Conversely:

While the FF is built tough, the ESV seems specifically built to be thrown around and take a beating - except for the temp level switch.

Maybe another tie?

Grinding

This one matters to me, because I hate grinding. A no-grind / no-tear technique (whole nugs of 100 % legal herbs ) using the FF takes a while to master, but resulted, for me, in the best flavor I've ever experienced. I have been unable to repeat this effect with the ESV. I think the ESV GREATLY benefits from grinding. Good thing I have that gigantic Space Case laying around...

Price

With a 20% off Vapor Nation code, the edge here goes to ESV.

EDA's Final Thoughts...

At the end of the day, I like my FF more, due to my "Master's" technique and to the remarkable flavor it can give. Maybe that will change? I prefer the FF design and its style. And it just feels like a higher quality product . I feel like the Monopoly Man when I'm using it. Like I just struck millions of gallons of oil and I'm celebrating with a vape session instead of a cigar. I am an Oil Man! It offers a luxurious experience all its own, weighing in heavily on the vape signature scale.

But the ESV seems like a solid product that is great for use away from home, especially for lightweights and the one, two, three hits and quit type of user. I think it offers a more predictable experience, which helps it be such an effective portable. It is definitely a no-brainer with excellent flavor. The USB cable connection is a real plus. And the idea of software upgrades is exciting. The ESV has oodles of potential.

I must say that I did not expect to like my ESV as much as I do. Even though it's not quite as easy to use on-the-go as I'd like, and I have plenty of "Why didn't I get any vapor?" moments, it's the easiest that I've used away from home. I don't think I'll ever use it much at home, but I can see medical patients who need instant relief at regular high temps using it there...

It's also nice to keep next to the bed at night. But I actually prefer the FF next to the bed. At night, I love to take one or two tokes of 100% legal herbs and just let that flavor be in my thoughts as I fall asleep. Blueberry or Strawberry or Pineapple as your eyes close .... mmm. It's also perfect for first thing in the morning. :brow:

So yeah. FF at home, ESV on the road.

The FF is a showpiece; the ESV is a "sneaker."

And if the FF is a musical instrument, then the ESV is something out of the toolbox.

:2c:
