So I found myself a second hand SSV that the guy claims has only been used a handful of times and is 2 years old. Managed to get him to drop it to £115 (188 dollars), do you guys think it's worth it? Looking at the unit on pictures it does look pretty clean; let me know. :D

From what I've read the SSV does have a little smell when vaping which isn't too good (living on campus). Would a Smoke buddy help here?

I've used my SSV on campus before and its smell depends on you. You can minimize the smell by opening a window and breathing out. The biggest offense is honestly the bag. If you keep your grinder or do not fully empty your wand, it can reek pretty easily.

But as long as you take standard precautions and smoke the furthest away from the door as possible, you should be safe.

My RA walked into my room, saw it heated up, and just thought it was a weird incense thing.

It depends on your draw amount. I can take small hits where the vapor is barely visible and the smell is not noticeable.

The smell of a vape session is dependent on your vapor production and cleanliness of your unit.

In your situation it may be better to get a used one locally if it's in good shape with the correct plug, and you can verify its full functionality. Really no guarantees either way since it cost so much to ship to/fro, also you could shop price with the uk ssv web retailer (forgot the name, it's been posted), even inquire if they have blems for sale. The good news is an ssv will last for many years either way, they rarely have any problems.

You can count on blemished units being shipped from the US. You can also get a blemished DBV from the Da Buddah site. Unless you're in love with one or more of the small differences between the two models, you can save another $40 and get the same electronics and heater in the DBV. I've used both models and could live with either one.

The Da Buddha was my original choice of vape but at £150 everywhere I've looked I might as well be saving £40 and getting the SSV (albeit it is used slightly) for £110. Is there anything I should look out for when testing the unit?

I'm confused, is the SSV getting an overhaul with LEDs and whip/bag setup? what's happening!!!!

My blue elbow joint and custom glass stirer from the 7th Floor store unfortunately have broken from minor wear and tear, and regardless of being way outside the 30 day money back guarantee they have offered to send replacements anyway! How lovely. I continue to highly recommend their company!

A humble attempt at providing the answers to the 3 questions you posed.
Air intake filtration system: A system that can suck in air from somewhere on the unit, and redirect it past the heat element to blow the air thought the HC toward the wand/whip or in future... a bag.
"Filtration" means there will be a HEPA, sponge, or other type of filter at the air intake to avoid dust being drawn into the inlet.
The bags will work with a clip that will attach the bags to the base of a wand surrogate.
The knobs will control airflow of fan, and the lighting effects.. the last knob that we know and love is for temperature control.

So I've been using my SSV for a couple of days now and was impressed with it at first. I've been combusting my last three bowls though at the 12-1 o'clock setting. Think it's me or the unit?

I had that exact problem a month ago w/ my SSV...
It turns out the dimmer connected to the knob that intensifies as you increase the heat wasnt working....took awhile to find but the light was and unit were pumping full from the first click on.
They didnt fix it...they replaced it....hammer black & red....beautiful.
Hope that helps..
Just check that the light is in sync w/ the knob w/ its glow

Hey thanks for getting back to me. I just checked the light is in sync with the knob. however I don't know if it's starting at a higher temperature than normal when it clicks, if you know what I mean.

At what point does the ceramic heating rod begin to turn from white to red?

I have had both, including a used SSV, and IMO, it's damn near bullet proof if it turns on at all. These are both very basic and simple machines, built to last and with more than enough oomph. If you can save some money with a used SSV, go for it, as long as you get all the accessories that generally come with it. Also, be aware that the SSV has 3 optional heater cover/wand combos to the DBV's one. At the very least I would expect you'll have to buy a new whip and mouthpiece. Do you know which wand your used SSV would have?

As soon as it clicks I could leave it there and it would turn a bit red. Raising the heat would make it turn bright red. I'll upload picture to help

EDIT: I've just had another vape, lowered the temp to 11 o clock position this time and while I didn't combust the bowl went pretty quick and all the bud was a dark brown colour. doesn't seem normal

Thats not right, it shouldnt start turning red that quickly

Yeah if clicks on at about 7-8 there's no way it should even be high temp at 12-1. If it clicks on at 3-5 that's a different story. Where it turns on depends on how they position the knob when it's installed, and it can always be removed and reinstalled so the on position is the normal 7-8. The element going any shade of red at the 'on position' says you're getting way too much heat.

I see, it does click at around 7-8 so I suppose it's a faulty unit. :( Can this be fixed anyhow or should I try sending it back to the guy?
